Knowing Fear by Jason Colavito Pdf

Tracing the development of horror entertainment since the late 18th century, this study argues that scientific discovery, technological progress, and knowledge in general have played an unparalleled role in influencing the evolution of horror. Throughout its many subgenres (biological horror, cosmic horror and others) and formats (film, literature, comics), horror records humanity's uneasy relationship with its own ability to reason, understand, and learn. The text first outlines a loose framework defining several distinct periods in horror development, then explores each period sequentially by looking at the scientific and cultural background of the period, its expression in horror literature, and its expression in horror visual and performing arts.

The Way of Knowing by Jayem Pdf

'The Way of Knowing' is a collection of Jeshua's teachings, faithfully transcribed from the original channeled audio recordings. It forms the third volume of the five essential 'Way of Mastery' texts. Jeshua shares: "The Way of the Heart... is that pathway that begins with a commitment to healing and awakening, and is founded on the premise that you are perfectly free at all times. And everything that is experienced has been by your choice. And at no time has there been any other cause." His invitation to us is to wake up from every illusion that we have ever been separate from God, and to remember the deepest Truth of who we are: Christ. This is the only authorized version, precisely it was first given and including the original question and answer sections. Nothing has been added in the transition from audio to text: no chapter titles appear, nor themes given to sub-sections - for He gave none. Read the first chapter in the book preview and experience the energy of these exquisite teachings for yourself!

The Book of Not Knowing by Peter Ralston Pdf

For fans of Eckhart Tolle—a guide to mastering self-awareness through direct experience rather than old presumptions or harmful thought patterns Through decades of martial arts and meditation practice, Peter Ralston discovered a curious and paradoxical fact: that true awareness arises from a state of not-knowing. Even the most sincere investigation of self and spirit, he says, is often sabotaged by our tendency to grab too quickly for answers and ideas as we retreat to the safety of the known. This "Hitchhiker’s Guide to Awareness" provides helpful guideposts along an experiential journey for those Western minds predisposed to wandering off to old habits, cherished presumptions, and a stubbornly solid sense of self. With ease and clarity, Ralston teaches readers how to become aware of the background patterns that they are usually too busy, stressed, or distracted to notice. The Book of Not Knowing points out the ways people get stuck in their lives and offers readers a way to make fresh choices about every aspect of their lives—from a place of awareness instead of autopilot.

Knowing - A Study In Spiritual Genealogy by Kurt Edward Fishback Pdf

This book contains the story of my ten year journey to understanding my true identity as a spiritual being having a human experience. A number of modalities were used to discover what I now know: shamanic journey, dream awareness, and past life regression both self-directed and using a professional hypnotherapist. This is my story and need be no one's else. The simple truth is that all this was shared with me through a desire to know myself and how I might be of service as an incarnated human being on Earth. The peace I have found is inestimable and also very simple. In truth, there are no words that can fully describe my experience or the "knowing" I have gained. The stories shared with me are layers of who I am and exist on paper to help my human mind make sense of what I feel and know on a much deeper level. It is my hope that the peace I have found can be of assistance as an example of what is possible to someone else.

Knowing Emotions by Rick Anthony Furtak Pdf

How do our emotions enable us to know? When Pascal noted that the heart has its own reasons, he implied that our rational faculty alone cannot grasp what is revealed in affective experience. Knowing Emotions seeks to explain comprehensively why human emotions are more than physiological disturbances, but experiences capable of making us aware of significant truths that we could not know by any other means. Recent philosophical and interdisciplinary research on the emotions has been dominated by a renewal of the debate over how best to characterize the intentionality of emotions as well as their bodily character. Rick Anthony Furtak frames this debate differently, however, arguing that intentionality and feeling are not two discrete parts of affective experience, but conceptually distinguishable aspects of a unified response. His account captures how an emotion's phenomenal or 'felt' quality (what it is like) relates to its intentional content (what it is about). Knowing Emotions provides a solid introduction to the philosophy of emotion before delving into the debates that surround it. Furtak draws from a wide range of analytic and Continental philosophers, including Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Kierkegaard, and Nietzsche, among others, and bolsters his analysis with empirical evidence from social psychology, neuroscience, and psychiatry. Perhaps most importantly, Furtak investigates all varieties of affective experience, from brief episodes to moods and emotional dispositions, loves and other longstanding concerns, and overall patterns of temperament and affective outlook. Ultimately, he argues that we must reject the misguided aspiration to purify ourselves of passion and attain an impersonal standpoint. Knowing Emotions attempts to clarify what kind of truth may be revealed through emotion, and what can be known - not despite, but precisely by virtue of, each person's idiosyncratic perspective.

Choosing Stillness, Knowing Love by Christine Dixon Pdf

Often our default is to turn for guidance to external sources rather than connecting to the God-given Spirit of Love within us. We may effectively forfeit our direct connection to God and become dependent on outside authorities, causing our spiritual roots to remain shallow and insecure. Choosing Stillness, Knowing Love offers a practical daily plan that makes connecting to the Spirit of God personal and tangible. Through guided journaling, awareness, and stillness exercises, this book encourages the reader to develop the habit of creating space to listen to the still, small voice of God. This leads to deeper roots that result in healing, wisdom, and a natural production of the fruit of the Spirit. This book is designed to focus on one person at a time, one moment at a time.

The Joy of Knowing Christ by Pope Benedict XVI Pdf

As Pope Benedict XVI notes in the first meditation in this collection, knowing that there is a God who is good, who knows us, who is so near to us, is truly the gospel—the good news that brings us joy. These fifty-five reflections on passages from the gospels, taken from the pope’s homilies and Angelus messages over the first three years of his papacy, reveal Benedict’s passionate love for Christ, his depth of faith, his grasp of Scripture, and his perspective on the challenges facing us as Christians in the world today. Pope Benedict is a brilliant theologian and scholar, but first and foremost he is a pastor, and this is evident in every meditation in this collection. A strong advocate of lectio divina, the prayerful reading of the Scriptures, Pope Benedict shows us how much nourishment and inspiration we can derive from meditating on the word of God.
