Lectures on the Economic Condition of Ancient India by J. N. Samaddar Pdf

Excerpt from Lectures on the Economic Condition of Ancient India The following pages, my first attempt in writing in English, represent five of the six lectures delivered by me last year on "The Economic Condition of Ancient India," to the Post-Graduate students of my Alma-Mater, the University of Calcutta. The sixth lecture on "Industrial and Trading Organisation" is being incorporated in my next book, Prachina Bharata, while a short one on "The Ramayana from the Economic Point" has been added to the present work. It has not been found possible within the limits of half a dozen lectures, delivered on different occasions to batches of students, to deal at length with such a vast subject, and I was not able to arrange them in strict chronological order. Those attempted merely indicate its main sub-divisions; and I have illustrated my remarks, as far as possible, by full references to such internal evidence as is to be found in the literature of ancient India. Lectures on the Ancient History of India by Devadatta Ramkrishna Bhandarkar Pdf

Excerpt from Lectures on the Ancient History of India: On the Period From 650 to 325 B. C It is scarcely necessary for me to add that the subject of the Ancient Indian History and Culture is a progressive one, and with every additional studv and find of new materials some of the conclusions previously drawn are likely to be modified. And, as a matter of fact, as this book is reaching its completion, I myself am aware that I now hold somewhat different views on one or two matters dealt with in these Lectures. Similarly, though no effort has been spared to ensure accuracy and fullness, I do not expect this book to be by any means free from defects. But I request my readers not to play the role of a cattlelouse described in the well-known Sanskrit verse} but rather to confine their attention to the good points only, if there be any, in these Lectures, and thus help to carry forward the torch of research work to illumine the dark periods of Ancient Indian History. Corporate Life in Ancient India (Classic Reprint) by Ramesh Chandra Majumdar Pdf

Excerpt from Corporate Life in Ancient India The spirit of co-operation has contributed more than anything else to the present highly developed stage of civilisation. The gigantic ex periments in popular government and the huge economic organisations spreading over the whole world, such as we see to-day all around us, have made the modern age what it is. The corporate activity to which they owe their origin and the present high level of success, may therefore be justly looked upon as the distinctive element in the culture of the day. It is rightly believed that no nation that lacks in this essential ele ment of culture can hope to keep pace with the progress of the world. Ancient India (Classic Reprint) by S. Krishnaswami Aiyangar Pdf

Excerpt from Ancient India The first chapter deals with the early portion of Indian History, and so the title 'ancient India' has been given to the book. The other chapters deal with a variety of subjects, and are based on lectures given on different occa sions. One was originally prepared as my thesis for the ma. Degree Examination of the University of Madras. The favourable reception given to my early work by historical and oriental scholars encouraged me to put my researches into a more permanent form, which a liberal grant from the Madras School Book and Literature Society has enabled me to do. Economics in India by Herbert Stanley Jevons Pdf

Excerpt from Economics in India: Inaugural Lecture It is here the responsibility of the economist arises, for he it is who holds the keys by which the tortuous mazes of economic cause and effect may be passed through safely: It is the economist in particular who, with sufficient study, can trace out the paths by which advances may be securely made in the domain of economic and social reform. Economics is a very young science compared with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; it is butjust entering upon a formal and recognised existence. Allow it time - but above all foster it, and cherish a tradition of truth and exactitude in its study - and without hesitation I predict that it will eventually achieve the most surprising benefits to the human race. Lectures on the Ancient History of India by Devadatta Ramkrishna Bhandarkar Pdf

Excerpt from Lectures on the Ancient History of India: On the Period From 650 to 325 B. C This book contains the lectures which I delivered as Carmichael Professor of the Calcutta University in February, 1918. When I came here to hold the chair, I was told that I was to deliver four lectures embodying some research work. If my lectures, I thought, were to contain nothing but new original work, they could be delivered only to a few advanced students of the Ancient Indian History and would hardly be understood by the people in general. If, on the other hand, they were to be such as would be intelligible to the latter, there was the danger of their being more popular than scholarly in character. Was it possible, I asked myself, to realise both the ends, i.e. to satisfy both the classes, - the scholars and the people? After thinking about the matter, I came to the conclusion that both the objects could be fulfilled if I selected a period and delivered my lectures on it. Perhaps the most neglected period was the one which immediately preceded the rise of the Mauryan power, although it was in some respects the most important one. This period was accordingly chosen and the lectures delivered. How far I have succeeded in interesting the specialists and the laymen in the subject-matter of these lectures I leave it to them to determine.
