Godfather and Sons: A Legacy of Deceit by Angelo Pagnotti Pdf

It was time. Time for the old man to reveal the family secrets hidden for seven decades. Old Grandpop made it clear that knowledge of the secrets came with a burden as he passed his journals to Angelo, his namesake grandson. His grandson accepted the mantel of Pavelli family protector, promising to ensure the family remained protected from an insidious evil. Grandpop Angelo immigrated to America to search for Gus, his missing father. The journals tell the story of a boy growing into manhood, a man remarkably different from the grandfather he thought he knew. The exposed secrets change the grandson's image of his quiet, tired nonagenarian Grandpop. The Italian farm boy's search for his father transformed his life and tested the old saying that blood is thicker than water.

A Legacy of Preaching: Two-Volume Set---Apostles to the Present Day by Zondervan, Pdf

A Legacy of Preaching, Two-Volume Set--Apostles to the Present Day explores the history and development of preaching through a biographical and theological examination of its most important preachers. Instead of teaching the history of preaching from the perspective of movements and eras, each contributor tells the story of a particular preacher in history, allowing these preachers from the past to come alive and instruct us through their lives, theologies, and methods of preaching. Each chapter introduces readers to a key figure in the history of preaching, followed by an analysis of the theological views that shaped their preaching, their methodology of sermon preparation and delivery, and an appraisal of the significant contributions they have made to the history of preaching. This diverse collection of familiar and lesser-known individuals provides a detailed and fascinating look at what it has meant to communicate the gospel over the past two thousand years. By looking at how the gospel has been communicated over time and across different cultures, pastors, scholars, and homiletics students can enrich their own understanding and practice of preaching for application today. Volume One covers the period from the apostles to the Puritans and profiles thirty preachers including: Origen of Alexandria by Stephen O. Presley John Chrysostom by Paul A. Hartog Augustine of Hippo by Edward L. Smither Gregory the Great by W. Brian Shelton Bernard of Clairvaux by Elizabeth Hoare Francis of Assisi by Timothy D. Holder Saint Bonaventure by G. R. Jewish eschatology, early Christian Christology and the Testaments of the twelve Patriarchs by Marinus de Jonge Pdf

This volume, which appears on the occasion of Marinus de Jonge's retirement as Professor of New Testament at Leiden University, brings together twenty essays which he wrote recently for various periodicals and collective works. A number of articles deal with the expectation of the future in Jewish sources, like Ps. Sol., the Qumran Scrolls and Josephus. Closely connected with these are some essays on the question of how such titles as 'Christ', and 'Son of David' came to be applied to Jesus. Eleven essays delve into various important aspects of the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs: eschatology, ethics, paraenesis, but also their use of Jewish source material and their view of the history of God's dealing with man, a view related to that held by Justin and Hippolytus. This book throws light on the Jewish origins of early Christian theology and on its relationship with the Hellenistic culture in which it developed. The book also includes Marinus de Jonge's bibliography.

A Free Corrector by Joshua McNall Pdf

[Omslag] A Free Corrector evaluates Colin Gunton's controversial treatment of Augustine's theological legacy. While others have critiqued Gunton's negative reading of Augustine, McNall goes further in addressing Gunton's argument regarding Augustine's "afterlife" (that is, the appropriation of Augustine by crucial figures from the medieval era to the dawn of modern thought). In the end, A Free Corrector argues that while Gunton was indeed unfair to Augustine, not all his claims about Augustine's legacy may be so easily dismissed. While Gunton was wrong to claim that Augustine's doctrine of the Trinity was decidedly monistic, it remains viable to argue that Augustine's view of the mind as the imago Trinitatis would contribute to problems over time. Likewise, on the doctrine of creation, Gunton was overzealous in his criticisms even while he found more support for his claim that Augustine's "inward turn" would encourage a problematic preference for mind over matter. The result of this study is thus a plea for balance: while Gunton was far too "free" in his correction of Augustine, it is also true that aspects of his Augustinian narrative remain viable.

Preparing Him for the Other Woman by Sheri Rose Shepherd Pdf

What Kind of Husband Will Your Son Grow Up to Be? His is a generation of boys who have better relationships with their Game Boxes, i-Pods, televisions, and computers than they do with their families. His understanding of marriage is that it has little hope for success, witnessing a fifty percent divorce rate both inside and outside of the church. His world is one where pornography is no longer a hidden shame, but encouraged as entertainment. Can you raise your son to one day love, lead, and protect a wife and family in a world like this? The answer is yes. The heartbeat of this book is to give you the tools to help your son become a tender warrior who will one day fight for his family, a godly husband who will faithfully love his wife, and a leader who will be a man of his word. The time is now to take your love, tears, prayers, and influence and pour them into his future. Even if our world does not change its moral fiber, you can influence your son and bring hope to the next generation. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime—yours. Reviews “Not only is this an amazing concept, but it meets an urgent need for every mother of boys.” Lisa Bevere, speaker and author of Fight Like a Girl and Kissed the Girls and Made Them Cry “I have three sons, two stepsons, two son-in-laws, and nine grandsons! Any help I can glean to give me more wisdom is welcome. I would have welcomed more help like this when I was a young mother raising my young men for ‘the other woman.’” LeeAnn Rawlins, Coauthor, To Love Again Story Behind the Book When the manager of a large Christian bookstore told Sheri Rose Shepherd that readers of the popular His Princess TM series were futilely looking for material about raising their sons to be godly future husbands, she knew she could help. “Think about how much farther all men would be in their marriages if their moms had trained them how to one day love and understand their wives,” says Sheri Rose . “We can take all the mistakes we’ve made in our lives and use them to teach our sons the right way to live. And we can use our most powerful weapon of all—our prayers—to fight for them.”
