Orbital Mechanics and Formation Flying by P A Capó-Lugo,P M Bainum Pdf

Aimed at students, faculty and professionals in the aerospace field, this book provides practical information on the development, analysis, and control of a single and/or multiple spacecraft in space. This book is divided into two major sections: single and multiple satellite motion. The first section analyses the orbital mechanics, orbital perturbations, and attitude dynamics of a single satellite around the Earth. Using the knowledge of a single satellite motion, the translation of a group of satellites called formation flying or constellation is explained. Formation flying has been one of the main research topics over the last few years and this book explains different control approaches to control the satellite attitude motion and/or to maintain the constellation together. The control schemes are explained in the discrete domain such that it can be easily implemented on the computer on board the satellite. The key objective of this book is to show the reader the practical and the implementation process in the discrete domain. Explains the orbital motion and principal perturbations affecting the satellite Uses the Ares V rocket as an example to explain the attitude motion of a space vehicle Presents the practical approach for different control actuators that can be used in a satellite

Servitization and Physical Asset Management by Michael John Provost Pdf

Servitization and Physical Asset Management, third edition, was developed to provide a structured source of guidance and reference information on the business opportunities linked to servitization and the management of physical assets. A growing trend in the global economy, servitization focuses on the actual deliverables of an asset from the perspective of the customer: electricity instead of the power plant, thrust instead of the engine, mobility instead of a plane or a car. The book offers high-level overviews of how to servitized and manage assets from a variety of perspectives, reviewing nearly 1,500 books, magazine articles, papers and presentations and websites. Written by Michael J. Provost, Ph.D., and a subject matter expert in modeling, simulation, analysis and condition monitoring, Servitization and Physical Asset Management, third edition, is an invaluable reference to those considering providing asset management services for the products they design and manufacture. It is also meant to support middle management wishing to know what needs to be done to look after the assets they are responsible for and who to approach for help, and academics doing research in this field. Michael Provost, is a British engineer with a doctoral degree in thermal power from Cranfield University.

Condition-Based Maintenance in Aviation by Ravi Rajamani Pdf

Condition-Based Maintenance in Aviation: The History, The Business and The Technology describes the history and practice of Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) systems by showcasing ten technical papers from the archives of SAE International, stretching from the dawn of the jet age down to the present times. By scientifically understanding how different components degrade during operations, it is possible to schedule inspections, repairs, and overhauls at appropriate intervals so that any incipient failure can be detected well in advance. Today, this includes more sensors and analytics so that periodic inspections are replaced by automated "continuous" inspections, and analytical methods that detect imminent failures and predict degradation issues more economically and efficiently. Similar concepts are also being developed for delivering prognostics functions, such as tracking of remaining useful life (RUL) of life-limited parts in aircraft engines. The discipline within CBM that deals with this is called prognostics and health management (PHM), which covers all aspects of diagnostics and prognostics, including modeling of systems and subsystems, sensing, data transmission, storage and retrieval, analytical methods, and decision making. Traditionally, nondestructive testing (NDT) methods have been employed during the major airplane checks to assess structural damage. These techniques are enhanced with in- situ sensing techniques that can continuously monitor aircraft structures and report on their health. The move to condition-based assessment of maintenance needs to be balanced by the assurance that safety is not compromised, that initial cost of new equipment is amortized by the savings, and that regulatory authorities are on board with any modifications to the planned maintenance schedule. The trend is clearly to include more CBM functions into Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) processes so better cost control can be achieved without ever comprising passenger safety.

The Global Commercial Aviation Industry by Sören Eriksson,Harm-Jan Steenhuis Pdf

This book provides a state-of-the-art overview of the changes and development of the civil international aircraft/aviation industry. It offers a fully up-to-date account of the international developments and structure in the aircraft and aviation industries from a number of perspectives, which include economic, geographical, political and technological points of view. The aircraft industry is characterized by very complex, high technology products produced in relatively small quantities. The high-technology requirements necessitate a high level of R&D. In no other industry is it more of inter-dependence and cross-fertilisation of advanced technology. Consequently, most of the world’s large aircraft companies and technology leaders have been located in Europe and North America. During the last few decades many developing countries have tried to build up an internationally competitive aircraft industry. The authors study a number of important issues including the political economy of the aircraft industry, globalization in this industry, innovation, newly industrializing economies and the aircraft industry. This book also explores regional and large aircraft, transformation of the aviation industry in Central and Eastern Europe, including engines, airlines, airports and airline safety. It will be of great value to students and to researchers seeking information on the aircraft industry and its development in different regions.
