But God Had Other Plans by Bill Jackson Pdf

The primary purpose of this book is to emphasize by my life's example the fact that God is real, that he does still exist today, and that he does still call men and women for specific purposes today, just as he has done throughout history. My writing these memoirs was inspired by a sermon I heard in February 2012. The point of the sermon was that everyone had a testimony. Well, I had never thought that I had a testimony. I jokingly told the pastor that if I had a testimony, it would take a book to tell it! Never in my entire life prior to 2012 did I ever think about or believe that I would write a book. But God placed it on my heart, and as I began writing notes, the more I wrote, the more that came to my mind to write. Also, I wanted to emphasize the fact that you never get too old to serve God. There are many examples throughout the Bible about people in various circumstances whom God has chosen for specific tasks. I was seventy-seven years old when I began writing this book and eighty-seven at its completion. I wanted to emphasize that you do not age out in your service to God. God has used old people to accomplish his purpose through history, and he still does today. In regard to the book's title, But God Had Other Plans, throughout life, it seemed almost every time I planned to do something, God would lead me in another direction. Also, the saying "But God" is mentioned many times throughout the Bible.

I Used to Have a Plan by Alessandra Olanow Pdf

Balm for the soul—Alessandra Olanow offers advice, inspiration, and encouragement for anyone who needs a shoulder to lean on during a difficult time. “I Know This Too Shall Pass. (But It Would Be Helpful to Know When).” After a series of events left her a divorced single mother questioning herself, her relationships, and basically, everything she thought was true about her “picture-perfect” life, Alessandra Olanow began drawing and posting illustrations on Instagram that reflected her feelings and struggles to right her life. She chronicled her journey of healing, expressing the shock, delusion, denial, self-pity, and self-doubt she experienced and the self-empathy and forgiveness that ultimately helped her regain a sense of self—but stronger, more fearless, and more hopeful than before. Her charming illustrations and keen, memorable observations—struck a chord. Within a year, her audience grew dramatically, from 9,500 to 157,000 followers, including celebrities Katie Couric, Jennifer Garner, Elise Loehnen (chief content officer at Goop), the poet Joao Doederlein, and Joanna Goddard (founder of A Cup of Jo). I Used to Have a Plan brings Olanow’s soothing sensibility to a wider audience, featuring new drawings and ideas that touch upon the universal experiences of unexpected change and loss. Divided into five parts—“I Didn’t See That Coming,” “It’s OK That You’re Not OK,” “Where’d I Go,” “The Only Way Out Is Through,” and “I Like It Here, Can I Stay a While?”—the book beautifully encapsulates the experience of encountering difficulty, processing it and healing from it, and becoming stronger and with a better sense of self. Full of advice, commiseration, empathy, and wit that is comforting, helpful, direct, and remarkable in its truth, I Used to Have a Plan helps everyone through the painful yet ultimately uplifting process of healing. I Used to Have a Plan includes 75-100 illustrations.

Tortured Artists by Christopher Zara Pdf

Great art comes from great pain. Or that's the impression left by these haunting profiles. Pieced together, they form a revealing mosaic of the creative mind. It's like viewing an exhibit from the therapist's couch as each entry delves into the mental anguish that afflicts the artist and affects their art. The scope of the artists covered is as varied as their afflictions. Inside, you will find not just the creators of the darkest of dark literature, music, and art. While it does reveal what everyday problem kept Poe's pen to paper and the childhood catastrophe that kept Picasso on edge, it also uncovers surprising secrets of more unexpectedly tormented artists. From Charles Schultz's unrequited love to J.K. Rowling's fear of death, it's amazing the deep-seeded troubles that lie just beneath the surface of our favorite art. As much an appreciation of artistic genius as an accessible study of the creative psyche, Tortured Artists illustrates the fact that inner turmoil fuels the finest work.

These rules alone, however, do not cause you to obey the principles—you follow these principles because you trust God’s Word. That is the Key! This book is based entirely on God’s Word. I speak from personal experience. These principles have become my lifestyle, and I am so very grateful that I was able to use them to strengthen me and deliver me from prison. The Life Writings of Mary Baker McQuesten by Mary J. Anderson Pdf

How did a privileged Victorian matron, newly widowed and newly impoverished, manage to raise and educate her six young children and restore her family to social prominence? Mary Baker McQuesten’s personal letters, 155 of which were carefully selected by Mary J. Anderson, tell the story. In her uninhibited style, in letters mostly to her children, Mary Baker McQuesten chronicles her financial struggles and her expectations. The letters reveal her forthright opinions on a broad range of topics — politics, religion, literature, social sciences, and even local gossip. We learn how Mary assessed each of her children’s strengths and weaknesses, and directed each of their lives for the good of the family. For example, she sent her daughter Ruby out to teach, so she could send her earnings home to educate Thomas, the son Mary felt was most likely to succeed. And succeed he did, as a lawyer and mpp, helping to build many of Hamilton’s and Ontario’s highways, bridges, parks, and heritage sites, and in doing so, bringing the family back to social prominence. Mary Baker McQuesten was also president of the Women’s Missionary Society. The appearance, manner, and eloquence of various ministers and politicians all come under her uninhibited scrutiny, providing lively insights into the Victorian moral and social motivations of both men and women and about the gender conflicts that occurred both at home and abroad. This book will satisfy many readers. Those interested in the drama of Victorian society will enjoy the images of the stern Presbyterian matriarch, the sacrificed female, family mental illness, the unresolved death of a husband, and the dangers of social stigma. Scholars looking for research material will find an abundance in the letters, well annotated with details of the surrounding political, social, and current events of the times.
