Little Stone by James Wanless,James Wanless Ph D Pdf

What if you had a friend that was always with you? A friend that listens quietly, without judging or criticizing. A friend who is solid, lasting, and shares its deep and ancient wisdom freely. You can have such a friend Little Stone. In this seemingly simple book about a seemingly simple object, James Wanless shows us how we can learn from the most primal and ancient of matter stone. Working with this often under-appreciated element, we learn to be grounded, to be powerful, and how to heal ourselves in order to be whole. Tapping into the qualities of stone integrity, simplicity, and solidity we realize these qualities within ourselves, so that we, like the stones, may sustain ourselves in a natural and creative way of life. These precious gifts from the earth teach us to live wholly, fully, and naturally.

Shout Because You're Free by Anonim Pdf

The ring shout is the oldest known African American performance tradition surviving on the North American continent. Performed for the purpose of religious worship, this fusion of dance, song, and percussion survives today in the Bolton Community of McIntosh County, Georgia. Incorporating oral history, first-person accounts, musical transcriptions, photographs, and drawings, Shout Because You're Free documents a group of performers known as the McIntosh County Shouters. Derived from African practices, the ring shout combines call-and-response singing, the percussion of a stick or broom on a wood floor, and hand-clapping and foot-tapping. First described in depth by outside observers on the sea islands of South Carolina and Georgia during the Civil War, the ring shout was presumed to have died out in active practice until 1980, when the shouters in the Bolton community first came to the public's attention. Shout Because You're Free is the result of sixteen years of research and fieldwork by Art and Margo Rosenbaum, authors of Folk Visions and Voices. The book includes descriptions of present-day community shouts, a chapter on the history of the shout's African origins, the recollections of early outside observers, and later folklorists' comments. In addition, the tunes and texts of twenty-five shout songs performed by the McIntosh County Shouters are transcribed by ethnomusicologist Johann S. Buis.Shout Because You're Free is a fascinating look at a unique living tradition that demonstrates ties to Africa, slavery, and Emancipation while interweaving these influences with worship and oneness with the spirit.

Lifelong best friends and next-door neighbors Hannah and Emory have never gone a single day without talking. But now its senior year and they haven't spoken in three months. Not since the fight, where they each said things they couldn't take back. They're aching to break the silence, but those thirty-six steps between their bedroom windows feel more like thirty-six miles. Then one fateful night, Emory's boyfriend, Luke, almost dies. And Hannah is the one who finds him and saves his life. As Luke tries to make sense of his near-death experience, he secretly turns to Hannah, who becomes his biggest confidante. In Luke, Hannah finds someone she can finally talk to about all the questions she's grappling with. Emory just wants everything to go back to normal -- the way it was before the accident. She has no idea why her relationship is spiraling out of control. But when the horrifying reason behind Hannah and Emory's argument ultimately comes to light, all three of them will be forced work together to protect the one with the biggest secret of all. Even if she had to helplessly watch her beloved marry someone else, she would still be able to smile and offer her blessings. But why couldn't such a simple wish be fulfilled? What went wrong? She didn't understand. This enmity and hatred between countries, the common people in this world, it was just a joke in the human world.
