Long Live the Dead by Hugh B. Cave,Keith Alan Deutsch Pdf

Ten stories of murder and suspense from one of the all-time masters of pulp fiction An addled ex-boxer named Tiny Tim ambles out of the shadows and complains to a beat cop that he is being followed. The officer laughs him off; everyone knows that Tiny Tim has heard footsteps behind him for years. But a few minutes later, Tim is spotted in a pool of blood, dead at the bottom of the subway steps. After years of running, the imagined footsteps have caught up to him at last. This brisk tale of deception and murder is but one of the stories in this collection from Hugh B. Cave, a master of pulp fiction whose career spanned seventy-five years. Along with Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, Cave was one of the defining authors of Black Mask magazine, and these stories are perfect examples of what set that pulp apart. Hard-boiled, fast-paced, and witty, the tales of Long Live the Dead are just as captivating now as they were on the newsstand many decades ago.

Long Live the Dead! by Marleen de Witte Pdf

One could expect traditional rituals, centered around the extended family and belief about death and ancestorship, to limit the importance of modern funerals in Asante, Ghana. However, the opposite scenario is taking place. In Asante, technological innovations like mortuaries, mass media, and electronic apparatus have given the funeral new dimensions. This illustrated book describes how the Asante shape and give meaning to burying its dead through creative interaction. The large amount of time, effort, and money that people spend on funerals not only reflect transformations in society, they also offer the Asante people opportunities to work out changing social patterns, differences between cities and villages, lifestyles and cultural preferences. Marleen de Witte is an anthropologist currently working at the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research at the University of Amsterdam.

DEC Is Dead, Long Live DEC by Edgar H. Schein,Paul J. Kampas,Peter S. DeLisi,Michael M. Sonduck Pdf

From an insider, the forty-year saga of the rise and fall of Digital Equipment Corporation, one of the pioneering companies of the computer age. Digital Equipment Corporation created the minicomputer, networking, the concept of distributed computing, speech recognition, and other major innovations. It was the number-two computer maker behind IBM. Yet it ultimately failed as a business and was sold to Compaq Corporation. What happened? Edgar Schein consulted to DEC throughout its history and so had unparalleled access to all the major players, and an inside view of all the major events. He shows how the unique organizational culture established by DEC's founder, Ken Olsen, gave the company important competitive advantages in its early years, but later became a hindrance and ultimately led to its downfall. Coauthors Schein, Kampas, DeLisi, and Sonduck explain in detail how a particular culture can become so embedded that an organization is unable to adapt to changing circumstances even though it sees the need very clearly. The essential elements of DEC’s culture are still visible in many other organizations today, and most former employees are so positive about their days at DEC that they attempt to reproduce its culture in their current work situations. In the era of post-dotcom meltdown, raging debate about companies “built to last” vs. “built to sell,” and more entrepreneurial startups than ever, the rise and fall of DEC is the ultimate case study.

Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism! by Todor Bombov Pdf

This work is divided into two autonomous books. The first book, The State, represents a radically new political system of society, one which is the most democratic system ever possible! This is a completely new society, a real civil society, which otherwise in the capitalist system is only a utopia. In this book, I scrutinize the principles of scientific socialism; i.e., all those principles of Marxism concerning the state that build socialism as a political system. The second book, The Economic Theory of Socialism, is a sequel, and as far as I know, the only sequel of the greatest work by Karl Marx – Capital. The economics of socialism makes Marx’s socialism already completely possible. In this book, I scrutinize the economic laws that build socialism as a more effective economic system than capitalism. These laws are extracted from Marx’s main work – Capital. From 1917 to 1991, the totalitarian system in USSR and East Europe was called socialism, and even by the scientific nonsense and absurd names of communism and communist system. In this system, the official ideology was allegedly Marxism, but really it could not endure any Marxist criticism. There was never any socialism anywhere! In the twentieth century, we passed through a system of utopian socialism as proof that this was not socialism that was not possible, but for the utopia of writers before and after Marx. We were visited by a utopian socialism, which at the contemporary stage is simply capitalism – state, monopolistic. There is no better application of Keynes’s doctrine than the “socialism” of the twentieth century. His “planned capitalism” is actually “planned socialism.”

CEO Guru Deep has left the business world reeling. The Christ Is Dead, Long Live the Christ by Andrew Oberg Pdf

The Christ Is Dead, Long Live the Christ: A Philotheologic Prayer, a Hermeneutics of Healing is a call for renewal and reinvention. Following a brief examination of the historical Jesus (Yeshua, using his actual Aramaic/Hebrew name), the book moves into a phenomenological study of the image, idea, and the place of both in our felt experiences. Looking closer at what we think were the actual words of this wandering sage, the picture we arrive at is one that will surprise, possibly unsettle. Moved out of our traditional comfort zones, we find the need to question what we have been told were Yeshua’s teachings, compelling us to further rethink messages on the afterlife, human finitude, so-called atonement theologies, and above all the “kingdom of God.” Whatever this vision was—and might yet be—it seems central to Yeshua’s efforts, and so we finally weigh these “kingdom” facets against a broader ideascape, offering suggestions for how a Yeshuan “kingdom” project situated within the panoply of a widely comprehended Judaic way-of-being might yield fresh life to we who find worth in the utterances and what they point towards, to we who wonder about a more human(e) world.
