Eat Your Drink by Matthew Biancaniello Pdf

Create your own artisanal "farm-to-glass" specialty cocktails using local, seasonal, unusual, and organic produce with this illustrated bartending guide from the renowned cocktail chef who is transforming modern mixology. Matthew Biancaniello, the former cocktail chef for the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel’s famous Library Bar, is creating cocktails the world has never tasted before. Going beyond the quotidian Whiskey Sour or Tom Collins, Biancaniello is mixing it up with imaginative drinks such as “The Heirloom Tomato Mojito”, a twenty-five-year-aged balsamic vinegar and strawberry libation named “The Last Tango in Modena,” and a fresh arugula-infused “Roquette.” One of the fastest-rising and most unique talents in the world of bartending, Biancaniello crafts exciting new drinks based on farm-fresh, seasonal, organic ingredients. A complement to farm-to-table dining, his fresh take on cocktails is ushering in a new age of drinking: “farm-to-glass”, and with the addition of his foraging and gardening methods, “ground to glass.” Captured in gorgeous full-color photographs, the libations in Eat Your Drink are both aesthetically beautiful and delicious. Eat Your Drink explores cocktails that push boundaries though never-before-imagined flavor combinations. Following Biancaniello’s lead, you too can learn to blend alcohol and food together to create an elevated cocktail experience that requires you to savor, explore and . . . eat your drink.

Lost Over Laos by Richard Pyle,Horst Faas Pdf

In 1971, as American forces hastened their withdrawal from Vietnam, a helicopter was hit by enemy fire over Laos and exploded in a fireball, killing four top combat photographers, Larry Burrows of Life magazine, Henri Huet of Associated Press, Kent Potter of United Press International, and Keisaburo Shimamoto of Newsweek. The Saigon press corps and the American public were stunned, but the remoteness of the location made a recovery attempt impossible. When the war ended four years later in a communist victory, the war zone was sealed off to outsiders, and the helicopter incident faded from most memories. Yet two journalists from the Vietnam press corps -- Richard Pyle, former Saigon Bureau Chief, and Horst Faas, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer in Vietnam-pledged to return some day to Laos, resolve mysteries about the crash, and pay homage to their lost friends. True to their vow, twenty-seven years after the incident the authors joined a U.S. team excavating the hillside where the helicopter crashed. Few human remains were found, but camera parts and bits of film provided eerie proof of what happened there. The narrative of Lost Over Laos is framed in a period that was among the war's bloodiest, for both the military and the media, yet has received relatively little attention from historians. It is rich with behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the Saigon press corps and illustrated with stunning work by the four combat photographers who died and their colleagues.

Mystery of Missing Flight F-BELV by Stephen Wynn Pdf

Following the Geneva Accords in 1954, Vietnam found itself separated into North and South, with communist North Vietnam under the control of Ho Chi Min. At the same time, the International Commission for Supervision and Control (ICSC) was established, whose role it was to oversee the implementation of the Accords. On 18 October 1965, an ICSC aircraft, F-BELV, was on a regular weekly flight from Saigon to Hanoi, stopping at Pnohm Penh, in Cambodia, and Vientiane, in Laos. Twenty minutes after leaving Vientiane, the captain contacted the authorities at Hanoi to give his ETA, but the aircraft never arrived. It is believed to be the only aircraft never to have been recovered from the Vietnam War. But what really happened and why? Did the aircraft crash, or was it shot down? Did it happen over Laos or North Vietnam? Mystery of Missing Flight F-BELV examines all aspects of the Vietnam War, particularly the events of 1965, and how tensions in the region heightened as the first American combat troops arrived in Vietnam. It investigates the role of the CIA, and whether their involvement had any bearing on the disappearance of flight F-BELV. It looks at those on board the aircraft, including James Sylvester Byrne, a sergeant in the Canadian Army and a relation to the author of this book. Was he just a regular soldier? Or was he really an intelligence officer gathering information to share with the Americans?

Mohawks Lost by Gerald Naekel Pdf

The eBook version of this book, here on Amazon, has most of the first chapter to read, while the print version preview is only a few pages long -- nothing I can control, but the eBook read is worth the couple minutes. The true stories of over 500 of my single-pilot combat flights, almost all of them in Laos and North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. I spent about 22-1/2 months flying in the only Mohawk unit with the armed OV-1 Mohawks - until my timing and luck all ran out at the same time and I was medavac'd to the Air Force hospital at Clark AFB in the Philippines and then a series of Air Force and Army hospitals. This book, or most of it, was previously published as WAR STORIES - From an Army Pilot Flying in the CIA's Secret War in Laos and was for years an Amazon great seller! Now it is has been updated, grammatically corrected with over a thousand changes, but pretty much the same 5-Star book. The 131st Aviation Company, while based near Hue in South Vietnam (I Corps, just below the DMZ), flew entirely in Laos and North Vietnam for over seven years until the last months of the war. Our secondary base for over six years was Udorn RTAFB, Thailand where we flew nightly hunter/killer teams with the Air Force and Laotian forces attacking Chinese trucks and tanks across northern Laos, near (or sometimes across) the border far to the northwest of Hanoi. This was the war in the Plain of Jars (PDJ) and much of this was run from the secret CIA airfield at Long Teign (Lima Site-20a), the most secret airfield in the world and home to much of the Air America fleet. Our two dozen Grumman OV-1 Mohawks were the only armed ones, and of the five Army Mohawk units, the other four operating only in South Vietnam, the 131st lost more aircraft and men than all the other units - combined. Nightly, from Phu Bai we flew pairs of SLAR/IR hunter/killer teams in southern Laos (Steel Tiger North and South) with the AC-130 Spectre gunships attacking the Ho Chi Minh Trail around the clock. There we faced huge amounts of flak and other heavy anti-aircraft fire that were not an issue inside of South Vietnam. We ran SLAR, IR and VR (armed visual) missions around the clock in the southern ends of North Vietnam, including 24/7 SLAR missions right along the coast up to about Vinh. There the issue was Soviet SAM missiles, and flak and the rest of the heavy machine guns. Ditto for Laos. And we never got a single man back out of Laos at the end of the war. You go down in Laos - and you are gone for good.

A Great Place to Have a War by Joshua Kurlantzick Pdf

The untold story of how America’s secret war in Laos in the 1960s transformed the CIA from a loose collection of spies into a military operation and a key player in American foreign policy. January, 1961: Laos, a tiny nation few Americans have heard of, is at risk of falling to communism and triggering a domino effect throughout Southeast Asia. This is what President Eisenhower believed when he approved the CIA’s Operation Momentum, creating an army of ethnic Hmong to fight communist forces there. Largely hidden from the American public—and most of Congress—Momentum became the largest CIA paramilitary operation in the history of the United States. The brutal war lasted more than a decade, left the ground littered with thousands of unexploded bombs, and changed the nature of the CIA forever. With “revelatory reporting” and “lucid prose” (The Economist), Kurlantzick provides the definitive account of the Laos war, focusing on the four key people who led the operation: the CIA operative whose idea it was, the Hmong general who led the proxy army in the field, the paramilitary specialist who trained the Hmong forces, and the State Department careerist who took control over the war as it grew. Using recently declassified records and extensive interviews, Kurlantzick shows for the first time how the CIA’s clandestine adventures in one small, Southeast Asian country became the template for how the United States has conducted war ever since—all the way to today’s war on terrorism.
