Short and Sweet by LeeAnn Mott Pdf

Many Christians spend a lifetime trying to figure out God's will for their lives: What career should I choose? Where should I live? Whom should I marry? God has told us his will for our lives: to be "conformed to the image of His Son" (Romans 8:29). Paul explains: We are to put off the old self and put on the new self "created to be like God in true righteous and holiness" (Ephesians 4:24). We cannot become more Christ-like in our own strength, though. Paul says the key is a renewed mind: "to be made new in the attitudes of your minds" (Ephesians 4:23). We exchange our patterns of thinking with God's Word. We fill our mind with Scripture, and slowly, we are transformed. Learning to think like Jesus helps us to act like Jesus. This is where Bible memorization comes in. We need to get God's Word into our heads and into our hearts. When I feel resentful and unforgiving toward my friend who betrayed me and am tempted to end our relationship, I replace my thoughts and hurt feelings with Hebrews 13:1: "Keep on loving each other as brothers." When I start to worry about my upcoming surgery or my children's college fund, I remind myself, "We live by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). God's Word is living, active, and powerful. Having these verses in my mind and heart helps me to choose new Christ-like behavior. Here are fifty-two short Bible verses: Memorize one verse a week. Meditate on it daily. By the end of the year, you will see the transformative power of God's Word in renewing your mind and changing your behavior. As you are increasingly conformed to the image of Jesus, you will have the privilege of reflecting his love to the world.

Awakening Through Love by John Makransky Pdf

Mother Theresa, The Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, Gandhi.....Some admire such figures from afar and think, "How special they are; I could never be like that". But as John Makransky teaches, the power of real and enduring love lies within every one of us. Awakening Through Love teaches how to enjoy a life imbued with that love, through Buddhist methods for cultivating genuine caring and appreciation for others. Makransky is a fully qualified guide to this practice: a professor of Buddhism and Comparative Theology at Boston College and a father of two, he is also a close student and colleague of Lama Surya Das, who provides the foreword here. Above all, he radiates an earnest and genuine caring, both in person and on the page. Rooted in Buddhism's Dzogchen tradition, Makransky asserts that love is part of the very nature of our being, and that if we can clear away the delusions that obscure our true nature, love will flow to and from us effortlessly. Awakening Through Love imparts meditations for both gradual cultivation and direct insight. Makransky also provides a uniquely convincing and moving presentation of the role of a teacher, or "benefactor," in deepening our spiritual path. Part of the brilliance of Awakening Through Love is that it finds what is universal in Buddhist ideas and practices and renders them usable for a general audience, with many references to ways that Christians and others can adapt the methods to their own traditions. Peppered with inspiring contemporary stories, the book will leave readers feeling more open, more inspired, and more engaged.

Stillness in the Garden by Destiny Finn Pdf

Be still and know that I am God. --Psalm 46:10 In a culture that has the motto "the more you do, the more you are," the command of being still seems like the last thing any of us are doing. We may want to be still, but we don't even know where to begin. What does it even mean? How does one learn to be still yet productive and successful in all areas of our life, not just physically but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well? Or if you're like me, maybe you've struggled for years with the concept of being still that, to you, being still means to be lazy, unproductive, and ultimately wasting precious time; that it would make you less of a person. But here, we have a calling from God to be still--the opposite of what our culture preaches. Take the journey with me in discovering the success and strength of what it means to be still and know who he is.
