Everybody Knows Your Name by Andrea Seigel,Brent Bradshaw Pdf

A romantic comedy with an unforgettable cast of characters (and way more laughs than any episode of American Idol), perfect for fans of Pitch Perfect. Meet Magnolia. Her father's dead, her boyfriend's ditched her to commit himself more fully to surfing, and her mother's depressed because she can't get cast on The Real Housewives of Orange County. All Magnolia wants is to reinvent herself. Meet Ford. Half his family is in jail, the other half probably should be, he shoplifted his way into a job at a record store, and his brother pawned his 1953 Telecaster for a quick buck. All Ford wants is to reinvent himself. Ford, meet Magnolia. When the two teens are cast in Spotlight, a reality TV singing competition, both see it as their chance to start anew. With each episode, as they live together in a Hollywood Hills mansion and sing their hearts out, Ford and Magnolia fall in love. But how genuine can that love be when a television audience is watching their every move—and when their pasts are catching up them so much faster than they can run?

The Song Is You by Bradley Rogers Pdf

Musicals, it is often said, burst into song and dance when mere words can no longer convey the emotion. This book argues that musicals burst into song and dance when one body can no longer convey the emotion. Rogers shows how the musical’s episodes of burlesque and minstrelsy model the kinds of radical relationships that the genre works to create across the different bodies of its performers, spectators, and creators every time the musical bursts into song. These radical relationships—borne of the musical’s obsessions with “bad” performances of gender and race—are the root of the genre’s progressive play with identity, and thus the source of its subcultural power. However, this leads to an ethical dilemma: Are the musical’s progressive politics thus rooted in its embrace of regressive entertainments like burlesque and minstrelsy? The Song Is You shows how musicals return again and again to this question, and grapple with a guilt that its joyous pleasures are based on exploiting the laboring bodies of its performers. Rogers argues that the discourse of “integration”—which claims that songs should advance the plot—has functioned to deny the radical work that the musical undertakes every time it transitions into song and dance. Looking at musicals from The Black Crook to Hamilton, Rogers confronts the gendered and racial dynamics that have always under-girded the genre, and asks how we move forward.

Fish Stories by Karen Kennedy Samoranos Pdf

Unassuming Crescent County, California, is infested with murder, incest, mayhem, greed and self-serving political factions, artfully concealed by virtue of its charming facade. It is an isolated realm of superficial religious conservatism, where murky characters exploit the law, and manipulate truth in the local media, stubbornly embracing the Good Ol' Boy mentality in one of the most progressive regions of the United States. Fish Stories Live From Saraville is the fourth novel from author and California native Karen Kennedy Samoranos, and encompasses the darker, fatal side of author Samoranos' Saraville Series. From an abusive manipulator; a judge on the take; a homicidal police-chief, and the rebirth of white supremacy; to a failed high school shooting with a lethal twist, Fish Stories travels down the murky backroads of humanity. With its stark narrative of unrequited lust, avarice, political favor and damaged psyches, Fish Stories endures as an evocative and candid examination of the malignant architecture of human behavior, in this fictional recount of life in northeastern California.
