Manufacturing Wastes Stream: Toyota Production System Lean Principles and Values by Mohammed Hamed Ahmed Soliman Pdf

In order to cut costs during the economic downturn, many businesses are implementing abstinence policies. This could mean laying off workers and cutting some wages. In fact, those actions might only work for a short time.Unless the company implements a culture of continuous improvement and alters its method of operation, the situation may recur and become even worse. This brings us back to the purpose for which the Toyota production system was developed. Waste is anything that uses resources but offers the customer nothing in return. Most activities are waste, or "muda," and can be divided into two categories. Although type one muda does not provide value, it is inescapable given the production assets and technologies available today. An illustration would be checking welds for safety, that type we also call necessary non value-added activity. Type two muda does not add value and can be quickly eliminated. An illustration is a process in a process village with disconnected phases that may be swiftly converted into a cell where unnecessary material moves and inventory are no longer necessary. A very small portion of all value-stream activities truly generate value as perceived by the client. The most effective way to boost business performance is to stop doing the numerous unnecessary things.

Lean Thinking by James P. Womack,Daniel T. Jones Pdf

Lean Thinking was launched in the fall of 1996, just in time for the recession of 1997. It told the story of how American, European, and Japanese firms applied a simple set of principles called 'lean thinking' to survive the recession of 1991 and grow steadily in sales and profits through 1996. Even though the recession of 1997 never happened, companies were starving for information on how to make themselves leaner and more efficient. Now we are dealing with the recession of 2001 and the financial meltdown of 2002. So what happened to the exemplar firms profiled in Lean Thinking? In the new fully revised edition of this bestselling book those pioneering lean thinkers are brought up to date. Authors James Womack and Daniel Jones offer new guidelines for lean thinking firms and bring their groundbreaking practices to a brand new generation of companies that are looking to stay one step ahead of the competition.

Lean Principles Explained by Can Akdeniz Pdf

Lean is not a new concept; in fact, since the turn of the 20th Century lean principles been instrumental in the growth and transformation of industries and economies across the globe. Although the specific term was not coined until much later, the first advances in the lean movement were made in the automotive manufacturing industry – with the innovative plant operations of Henry Ford and later the seminal restructuring of Toyota business operations by Taiichi Ohno. In recent decades, the principles of lean thinking have been extrapolated from their roots in manufacturing and applied to a number of other modern business structures, always with resounding success. This book will guide you through the core aspects of lean principles, allowing you to see how implementing this philosophy throughout your workforce could revolutionize your company, or even your entire industry. The key concept at the heart of lean thinking is striving to keep only what is valuable to the end customer. In the case of this book – the end customer is you: the reader. We have kept the material lean – shaving off any superfluous information – so the ideas you’ll find here can be easily digested, understood and implemented, with no time wasted on waffle.

Lean Organization: from the Tools of the Toyota Production System to Lean Office by Andrea Chiarini Pdf

Lean Organization for Excellence describes the right way to implement lean thinking inside both manufacturing and service industries. After explaining the origins of the concept and discussing 'wastes' and value added, the book aims to set out a precise path of action. To this end, the so-called Hoshin Kanri method of defining business objectives and targets is explained, and a Value Stream Mapping tool that serves to identify all wastes is described. Subsequent chapters cover each of the TPS (Toyota Production System) tools, from 5S to SMED, and special attention is devoted to the Ducati case study, in which tools such as 5S and Kanban are applied. Lean metrics and the innovative Value Stream Accounting are discussed, and the closing chapter focuses on Lean Office for the service industry. Each chapter includes illustrations and tables relating to practical cases concerning the subject under consideration, based on real consultancy experiences.

LEAN Production – Easy and Comprehensive by Roman Hänggi,André Fimpel,Roland Siegenthaler Pdf

No production is perfect. Waste always creeps into the processes, makes them slow, sluggish and expensive. Parts and material pile up in the warehouse, production takes place in unnecessarily large batches, transport is taking time, employees wait unproductively for their next task or products ship too late. The result is high production costs and disappointed customers. The Lean movement has set itself the goal of uncovering waste, question it and eliminate it. This book will explain in a simple and comprehensive way the Lean principles as well as the practical tools to make production processes as lean and value-added as possible.

The Seven Deadly Wastes and How to Remove Them from Your Business by Mohammed Hamed Ahmed Soliman Pdf

This book discusses the seven deadly wastes (muda) in the value stream process. It presents the cost of each waste, its effect on the process, and how it can be eliminated to increase profitability. Waste removal increases the profitability of any business. Processes are classified into value added and waste. The seven deadly wastes that could exist in any manufacturing process originated in Japan and are defined in the Toyota production system (TPS). The main goal became removing them. For each waste, there is a strategy to remove or eliminate it. What is less likely is that managers will know how any of these issues are affecting them and increasing costs. To remove each waste, you have to understand where it comes from, why it exists, and how it affects your business. In the economic recession, many companies are taking abstinence procedures to reduce costs. This might include layoff labors and reducing some wages. Actually, those actions might work for only a short period. Afterwards, the situation may return and in worse shape unless the company changes its way of doing things, including enacting a culture of continuous improvement. This puts us back to why the Toyota production system has been created.
