Food, Agri-Culture and Tourism by Katia Laura Sidali,Achim Spiller,Birgit Schulze Pdf

This book will be a valuable source of information for those concerned with rural and farm tourism, sustainable tourism and the marketing of "Calibri">local gastronomy. It presents cases with an international and interdisciplinary approach in order to provide ideas for strategic perspectives in tourism studies. Furthermore, for the first time the complex fields of rural and food tourism are examined from an international (Italy and Germany) viewpoint. This book explores ways in which gastronomical heritage (i.e., regional food, organic food) can be incorporated in rural tourism (above all farm tourism) and development policies as well as in new avenues of research e.g., sensory marketing, online marketing) in order to enhance sustainable practices both in the tourism and in the agri-food sector. Overall, the book presents an overview of benchmark practices for professionals (associations of rural tourism, farmers, etc.), while offering scholars a well-founded source to refer to in order to gain up-to-date insights into the state of the art of studies on rural and food tourism.

Meeting Challenges for Rural Tourism through Co-Creation of Sustainable Tourist Experiences by Maria João Carneiro,Celeste Eusébio,Elisabeth Kastenholz Pdf

Rural tourism is not a new phenomenon in many parts of the world, but it has only recently received increased attention from researchers, politicians and managers as a result of new market trends, the recognition of the “rural crisis” and the urge to solve it. However, there is also evidence that rural tourism is not a miraculous antidote for this crisis, certainly not in all places and under all conditions. Despite some recent studies examining the critical factors of success for rural tourism, there is still a need for a deeper understanding of the rural tourism phenomenon, the nature of the tourism experience and how it could be optimized to the benefit of all, while making the best use of endogenous resources and competences, yielding sustainable destination development. This book contributes to the debate, focusing on the tourist experience, here conceptualized as “co-created” between hosts and guests, based on destination-specific elements of “countryside capital” and aiming at sustainability. It contains both conceptual and empirical chapters, with diverse and new perspectives, methodological approaches and cases from several countries.

Sustainable Rural Tourism on Saaremaa. Developing a Marketing Plan by Lydia Zobel Pdf

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 64%, University of Birmingham (University of Birmingham), language: English, abstract: This dissertation aimed to develop a marketing plan for sustainable rural tourism on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia. In order to achieve this, the current product of Saaremaa, its market position and the present and future customers were analysed. As all the required information on this topic could be found in the already existing literature, there was no need to do primary research. Secondary research was thus the chosen method to gather information. As the concept of sustainable rural tourism consists in avoiding negative impacts on the natural environment of the destination, on the host community and its culture, the literature often mentions the carrying capacity, which should not be exceeded. Islands especially have to consider their natural carrying capacity when offering tourism because these destinations are spatially limited. Obviously, there is a contradiction between sustainable tourism and abiding by the carrying capacity on the one hand and attracting more tourists on the other. The challenge for this dissertation was therefore to find out if marketing for sustainable rural tourism on Saaremaa should be done and if yes, how it could be realised. The main body of this work reveals the rich history of Saaremaa, its intact nature and great biodiversity, its natural and man-made attractions as well as the local culture, the traditions and the customs of the islanders. The product analysis thus showed that Saaremaa has a great potential for sustainable rural tourism. The Tourism Management Plan of the island, which was developed in 2007, also supports the further development of tourism in a sustainable manner. Additionally, different stakeholders, such as politicians, business owners and locals working in the Tourist Board, are in favour of promotin

Selected Studies on Rural Tourism and Development by Gulizar Akkus,Mehmet Serdar Erciş Pdf

Rural tourism is a form of tourism that is based on natural resources and requires intertwining with rural areas. It can be easily integrated with other types of tourism, and can be an effective global development strategy. Therefore, introducing rural tourism practices in various regions throughout the world allows further exploration of the reciprocal effects of agriculture, rural areas and tourism. This book provides insights into the potential of rural tourism potential and its future development, through unique examples and case studies drawn from Turkey, which has been increasingly implementing this form of tourism in recent years. Given the continued existence of traditional lifestyles in rural areas and villages, in addition to the rich cultural heritage, local handicrafts, and the natural flora and fauna, rural tourism holds massive potential for Turkey. The volume will appeal to both international academicians and tourism professionals and practitioners, in addition to anyone with an interest in rural areas and rural development.
