Streamline KPIs to craft a simpler, more effective system of performance measurement Key Performance Indicators provides an in-depth look at how KPIs can be most effectively used to assess and drive organizational performance. Now in its third edition, this bestselling guide provides a model for simplifying KPIs and avoiding the pitfalls ready to trap the unprepared organization. New information includes guidance toward defining critical success factors, project leader essentials, new tools including worksheets and questionnaires, and real-world case studies that illustrate the practical application of the strategies presented. The book includes a variety of templates, checklists, and performance measures to help streamline processes, and is fully supported by the author’s website to provide even more in-depth information. Key Performance Indicators are a set of measures that focus on the factors most critical to an organization’s success. Most companies have too many, rendering the strategy ineffective due to overwhelming complexity. Key Performance Indicators guides readers toward simplification, paring down to the most fundamental issues to better define and measure progress toward goals. Readers will learn to: separate out performance measures between those that can be tied to a team and result in a follow-up phone call (performance measures) and those that are a summation of a number of teams working together (result indicators) look for and eradicate those measures that have a damaging unintended consequence, a major darkside Sell a KPI project to the Board, the CEO, and the senior management team using best practice leading change techniques Develop and use KPIs effectively with a simple five stage model Ascertain essential performance measures, and develop a reporting strategy Learn the things that a KPI project leader needs to know A KPI project is a chance at a legacy – the project leader, facilitator, or coordinator savvy enough to craft a winning strategy can affect the organization for years to come. KPI projects entail some risk, but this book works to minimize that risk by arming stakeholders with the tools and information they need up front. Key Performance Indicators helps leaders shape a performance measurement initiative that works.

The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Health Systems Strengthening by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,Institute of Medicine,Board on Global Health,Forum on Public-Private Partnerships for Global Health and Safety Pdf

Over the past several decades, the public and private sectors made significant investments in global health, leading to meaningful changes for many of the world's poor. These investments and the resulting progress are often concentrated in vertical health programs, such as child and maternal health, malaria, and HIV, where donors may have a strategic interest. Frequently, partnerships between donors and other stakeholders can coalesce on a specific topical area of expertise and interest. However, to sustain these successes and continue progress, there is a growing recognition of the need to strengthen health systems more broadly and build functional administrative and technical infrastructure that can support health services for all, improve the health of populations, increase the purchasing and earning power of consumers and workers, and advance global security. In June 2015, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine held a workshop on the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in health systems strengthening. Participants examined a range of incentives, innovations, and opportunities for relevant sectors and stakeholders in strengthening health systems through partnerships; to explore lessons learned from pervious and ongoing efforts with the goal of illuminating how to improve performance and outcomes going forward; and to discuss measuring the value and outcomes of investments and documenting success in partnerships focused on health systems strengthening. This report summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Managing Performance in the Public Sector by Gerrit Van der Waldt Pdf

Monitoring and ensuring effective, efficient, and economic use of resources in the public sector is addressed in this critical analysis. The importance of tracking performance for good governance is considered, as are the benefits of designing a departmental and human performance management system. Particular attention is paid to the difficult task of measuring worker performance in the public sector, where a wide array of unquantifiable variables must be examined. Various performance models, such as the Excellence Foundation and the Balance Scorecard, provide an invaluable resource of concepts, considerations, and challenges for improving public sector performance.

Private Sector Assessment for Palau by Asian Development Bank Pdf

Palau's economy expanded strongly, with real gross domestic product (GDP) rising 5.3% in 2014 and 8.2% in 2015. Per capita GDP also increased; at the end of fiscal year 2015 it was in excess of $16,000---the highest among Asian Development Bank developing members in the Pacific. This strong performance, however, masks urgent issues threatening the sustainability of Palau's economy. This private sector assessment is based on in-depth consultation with the government and private sector. It recommends further reform, most notably in the areas of tourism policies and business law, as well as in the agriculture and finance sectors. It suggests that Palau's state-owned enterprises are inefficient and need to operate on commercial principles. Measures to promote equal access to economic opportunities for women and fiber optic connectivity with other countries are also provided.

Measuring Performance and Benchmarking Project Management at the Department of Energy by National Research Council,Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences,Board on Infrastructure and the Constructed Environment,Committee for Oversight and Assessment of U.S. Department of Energy Project Management Pdf

In 1997, Congress, in the conference report, H.R. 105-271, to the FY1998 Energy and Water Development Appropriation Bill, directed the National Research Council (NRC) to carry out a series of assessments of project management at the Department of Energy (DOE). The final report in that series noted that DOE lacked an objective set of measures for assessing project management quality. The department set up a committee to develop performance measures and benchmarking procedures and asked the NRC for assistance in this effort. This report presents information and guidance for use as a first step toward development of a viable methodology to suit DOE's needs. It provides a number of possible performance measures, an analysis of the benchmarking process, and a description ways to implement the measures and benchmarking process.

How Organisations Measure Success by Neil Carter,Patricia Day,Rudolf Klein Pdf

Throughout the 1980s the British Civil Service devoted much time and energy developing indicators to measure the performance of government. Never before had so much stress been placed on accountability and performance; a trend which will be reinforced as government continues to devolve activities to agencies and looks for methods to assess their performance. How Organisations Measure Success analyses existing methods from their origins in the 1960s to their revival in the 1980s as part of the Financial Management Initiative and its apotheosis in the 1990s Next Steps Initiative. How Organisations Measure Success reports on two years of field research funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and will be of great interest to students of social policy and public administration as well as professionals working in government and public sector management.
