Indirect Dew-Point Evaporative Cooling: Principles and Applications by Jie Lin,Kian Jon Chua Pdf

This book systematically discusses state-of-the-art dew-point evaporative cooling and provides key insights into current research efforts and future research interests. Novel energy-efficient and environment-friendly cooling technologies are essential to reduce the sharply rising energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. Conventional air-conditioners which adopt a vapor compression cycle are neither energy-efficient nor sustainable due to the use of compressors and chemical refrigerants, as well as their intrinsic coupling of sensible and latent cooling loads. With the merits of high energy efficiency and the ability to decouple cooling loads without using chemical refrigerants, indirect dew-point evaporative cooling provides an ideal alternative solution to air conditioning in a variety of applications. A comprehensive review of evaporative cooling and their underlying engineering challenges is included. Advanced engineering and modeling experience critical to the development of dew-point evaporative coolers are highlighted. The effective analysis techniques for dew-point evaporative coolers are documented, and their intrinsic characteristics captured by these methods are reported. Lastly, advanced dew-point evaporative cooling systems in various energy-connected applications are discussed by providing multiple case studies. Specifically targeted at HVAC engineers, thermal scientists, and energy-engineering researchers, this book will balance fundamental concepts, industrial applications, and leading-edge research. As this book provides readers with depth and breadth of coverage, it can also be used by graduate-level students in relevant fields.

Desiccant-Assisted Cooling by Carlos Eduardo Leme Nóbrega,Nisio Carvalho Lobo Brum Pdf

The increasing concern with indoor air quality has led to air-quality standards with increased ventilation rates. Although increasing the volume flow rate of outside air is advisable from the perspective of air-quality, it is detrimental to energy consumption, since the outside air has to be brought to the comfort condition before it is insufflated to the conditioned ambient. Moreover, the humidity load carried within outside air has challenging HVAC engineers to design cooling units which are able to satisfactorily handle both sensible and latent contributions to the thermal load. This constitutes a favorable scenario for the use of solid desiccants to assist the cooling units. In fact, desiccant wheels have been increasingly applied by HVAC designers, allowing distinct processes for the air cooling and dehumidification. In fact, the ability of solid desiccants in moisture removal is effective enough to allow the use of evaporative coolers, in opposition to the traditional vapor-compression cycle, resulting in an ecologically sound system which uses only water as the refrigerant. Desiccant Assisted Cooling: Fundamentals and Applications presents different approaches to the mathematical modeling and simulation of desiccant wheels, as well as applications in thermal comfort and humidity controlled environments. Experts in the field discuss topics from enthalpy, lumped models for heat and mass transfer, and desiccant assisted radiant cooling systems, among others. Aimed at air-conditioning engineers and thermal engineering researchers, this book can also be used by graduate level students and lecturers in the field.

Drying ’85 by Ryozo Toei,Arun S. Mujumdar Pdf

It is a pleasure to present this volume consisting of a selection of papers presented at the 4th International Drying Symposium (IDS) held in Kyoto, July 9-12, 1984, under the sponsorship of the Society of Chemi cal Engineers, Japan. This book includes full texts of the ten keynote lectures and several papers which were presented in the technical sessions in the 4th IDS. As editors we had the arduous and unpleasant task of selecting papers for this volume. We were delighted with the high quality manuscripts sub mitted. We are grateful to the authors for their efforts in meeting the manuscript guidelines and also the deadlines. Aside from quality, we have attempted to maintain in this volume a balance of coverage in terms of topics as well as geography. Space restrictions prevented us from presenting all the high quality papers for publication in DRYING 85. Numerous papers of archival interest have been released for general publication in international journals. Several will no doubt appear in Drying Technology - An International Journal. Many others will find their way into other standard engineering journals as well. Over 120 papers from 30 countries were included in the Proceedings volumes distributed to all registrants in Kyoto. Numerous individuals, professional societies and organizations have contributed, directly or indirectly, to the success of the 4th IDS and hence to DRYING 85 as well. We wish to acknowledge in particular the monumental efforts of the Secretary of the 4th IDS, Professor M. Okazaki.
