The Time Has Come by Michael Kaufman Pdf

In the vein of Tim Wise’s White Like Me and Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In, The Time Has Come —by co-founder of the White Ribbon campaign Michael Kaufman — offers a plain-spoken and forthright look at why and how men must actively fight for gender equality. From founding the White Ribbon Campaign, the world’s largest organized effort of men working to end violence against women, in the early 1990s, to his appointment as the only male member of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council, Michael Kaufman has been a major figure in promoting social justice and women’s rights for decades. Now, in The Time Has Come, he issues a stirring call for men to mobilize in the movement for gender equality. Weaving together sociological data, personal experiences, and insights gleaned from decades of work with governments and NGOs around the globe, Kaufman explores topics ranging from domestic violence to parental leave, grappling with the ways in which a culture of toxic masculinity hurts women and men (and their children). Informative and provocative, The Time Has Come demonstrates how real gender equality creates advancements in both the workplace and the global economy, and urges men to become dedicated allies in dismantling the patriarchy.

Men and Times of the Revolution (Classic Reprint) by Elkanah Watson Pdf

Excerpt from Men and Times of the Revolution This part of it received his careful revision. My labors were, at that point, arrested by feeble health; but, at his decease, all his literary papers were confided to me, as his literary executor. In arranging the narrative of personal incidents, and the correspondence, for publication, I have felt constrained to withhold much of a private and confidential character, although it possesses peculiar intrinsic value and interest. I have been deeply solicitous to avoid not only all appearance, but to escape every suspicion of having violated, in any instance, the sanctity of friendship, or of having exposed to the public eye the frank and unguarded communications of confidential intercourse. A remarkable prescience will often be observed in the writings of my father, when results and effects will appear to have been anticipated with singular sagacity, from existing causes. Many other coincidences of a still more striking character, I have omitted, from an apprehension that the idea might be suggested, that the speculations had been recorded after the events occurred, which they profess to foreshadow. The extraordinary and perilous journey of my father, at the crisis of the Revolution, from Massachusetts to Georgia; his subsequent expedition from New England to North Carolina, soon after its termination; his travels, at a later period, in newly occupied territories; and his explorations of districts, almost in their primeval condition, opened to him ample fields of observation and reflection. His journals reflect, during these events, his daily impressions, formed by occurrences as they took place. They contain a critical exhibition of the state of the country, the aspect of society, the modes of intercourse, the existing prospects, the population and condition of cities and villages, the industrial pursuits, the commerce and internal communications of the country, recorded at the time, and from personal inspection. I think, that no similar memorial of that period exists. Presuming that these features of his works would be regarded with interest by the American people, I have preserved them with considerable minuteness. The Revolution of Man by Philip Barker Pdf

'Compelling. What does it mean to be a man? Finally, we're talking about it. This book is the conversation we need to have-with each other, our sons and fathers.' Peter FitzSimons, bestselling author of Kokoda 'A terrific read-gutsy, plain-speaking and personal, addressing almost every aspect of Australian men's lives today . . . This book will greatly help the growing avalanche of masculine change.' Steve Biddulph, psychologist and bestselling author of Manhood The performance of being a man, from the moment we open our eyes, until we gasp our last breath, is damaging us, and those around us. Phil Barker has written thousands of words about being a man in these strange and terrible times. As a journalist, he has spent years investigating the modern epidemics of suicide, domestic violence, pornography and misogyny, but also the essential bonds of male friendship, fatherhood and men's relationships with women. During this time, Phil found himself seeing what it is to 'be a man' in a completely new light. Men are forced into a performance of masculinity that is suffocating, limiting and damaging. The Revolution of Man shows us how to rethink what it means to be a man and urges men to reconnect with their emotions so they, and the people they love, can start leading happier, healthier and more meaningful lives. 'Phil Barker skewers toxic masculinity and provides a manifesto for modern manhood. This well-researched, engaging and thought-provoking book explains why positive masculinity is good for men, women and children. We need more male allies like Phil to create a safer future for the post #MeToo generation.' Tracey Spicer, journalist and bestselling author of The Good Girl Stripped Bare
