Planets: 100 Illustrated Fun Facts by Katy Gleit Pdf

This picture book is a great teaching tool for your little one and for you. It is like illustrated encyclopedia of planets for every kid. The pictures are clear and the colors are nice. If you are ready to challenge your mind and prove to everyone that you are the king of planets knowledge, then pick up this book and prepare for the ultimate trivia experience. Test your fact knowledge as you look at some of the most captivating facts about planets of our Sun's System. Do you know that? The nine planets are the most important members of the Sun's System. In order of distance from the Sun, they are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Plato. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, are small rocky bodies. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are giants, made up mainly of gas. Pluto is tiny ball of rock and ice. The Sun is nearly ten times bigger across than Jupiter, and it could swallow more than a million Earths. Earth is bigger than four of the planets - nearby Venus, Mars and Mercury, and tiny distant Pluto. Jupiter is by far the largest of the planets and has more mass than all the other planets put together. Jupiter measure nearly 143 000 kilometers across, which is 11 times bigger than Earth. Even though Jupiter is so big, it takes less than 10 hours for it to spin round once: this means that its surface is spinning round at s speed of 45 000 km an hour. This is 30 times faster than Earth spins. Once it was thought that Saturn was the only planet that had rings around it because they were the only ones that can be seen through a telescope. Close-up photographs taken by the Voyager space probes have shown that the other three gas giants - Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune - have rings too, but their rings are much thinner, narrower and darker than Saturn's. Ancient astronomers could only see five planets in the night sky until 1781. In this year was built a telescope powerful enough to spot Uranus. Uranus was the first of three "new" planets to be discovered after 1781. Neptune was discovered in 1846. Pluto was discovered in 1930. Saturn is surrounded by a set of bright, shining rings and when you look at the planet though a telescope it is very beautiful. Saturn is the lightest (last dense) of the planets. It is lighter even than water - if you could place it in a huge bowl of water, it would float. Pluto travels more than 7000 million kilometers away from the Sun. It takes nearly 248 Earth years to circle the Sun once. Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun. Mercury is the fastest-moving planet, whizzing round the Sun in just 88 days. Being close to the Sun, Mercury gets extremely hot. As you read this book over and over to your child it won't be long before they are the ones pointing to the picture and telling you what it is. The author Katy Gleit wrote this book for her own two grandchildren Dani and Deia: In "Planets: 100 Illustrated Fun Facts " your children are given a well-selected knowledge along with entertaining information about the planets of our Sun's System. In addition, a set of wonderful pictures show exactly what a planets looks like.

The Solar System Set by Linda T. Elkins-Tanton Pdf

The Solar System set explores the relationship between the Sun--the center of the solar system--and its orbiters, including Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, as well as asteroids, meteorites, and comets. Space missions that helped the scientific community gain a more thorough understanding of solar system bodies are introduced in each volume, along with images and discussions related to each particular subject. Whereas some books in the set focus on universal unknowns and the results of space missions, others emphasize the importance of viewing the solar system as a continuum of sizes and types of bodies. Each book discusses the role of planets or other small bodies as recorders of the formation of the solar system. This new six-title set examines the various solar system bodies and encourages a more complex understanding of the many sizes and types of bodies that orbit the Sun. Each volume will also include an eight-page insert of full-color photographs pertaining to each topic. This new set is a must-have for libraries serving students interested in gaining a detailed perspective on how the universe was formed and how each planet and universal body relates to the Sun and the rest of the universe.

The Outline of Science by J Arthur Thomson Pdf

The heavenly bodies fall into two very distinct classes so far as their relation to our Earth is concerned; the one class, a very small one, comprises a sort of colony of which the Earth is a member. These bodies are called planets, or wanderers. There are eight of them, including the Earth, and they all circle round the sun. Their names, in the order of their distance from the sun, are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and of these Mercury, the nearest to the sun, is rarely seen by the naked eye. Uranus is practically invisible, and Neptune quite so. These eight planets, together with the sun, constitute, as we have said, a sort of little colony; this colony is called the Solar System. The second class of heavenly bodies are those which lie outside the solar system. Every one of those glittering points we see on a starlit night is at an immensely greater distance from us than is any member of the Solar System. Yet the members of this little colony of ours, judged by terrestrial standards, are at enormous distances from one another.

Icarus Down by James Bow Pdf

Earth's survivors cling to life on an unforgiving, distant planet, next to the sun! Three generations after the crash of the colony ship Icarus, Iapyx is barely hanging on: one of thirteen cities suspended halfway down deep chasms. The sun on the diamond lands above will kill a man in less than five minutes. The ticktock monsters in the fog forest below are a little slower -- but quite a bit smarter. An electromagnetic wash has disabled the computers, the radios, even the lightbulbs. It's the steam and clockwork age reborn: a careful society, rationed and stratified. Which suits Simon Daud just fine. Simon likes the rules, and knows his place -- in the shadow of his older brother, Isaac. All he wants is to earn his wings as an ornithopter pilot and get to work in the flight bays. But on his final test flight, something goes wrong. Isaac is killed. Simon is burned; his body will never be the same. Neither will his world. Not everything in Iapyx is quite as it seems, and through his rehabilitation Simon falls into the middle of a conspiracy that will bring everything he's ever known to the ground. Down in the fog forest, monsters await -- but so does the truth . . . if Simon can survive long enough to find it.
