Jasper's Basic Mechanisms of the Epilepsies by Jeffrey L. Noebels,Massimo Avoli Pdf

Jasper's Basic Mechanisms, Fourth Edition, is the newest most ambitious and now clinically relevant publishing project to build on the four-decade legacy of the Jasper's series. In keeping with the original goal of searching for "a better understanding of the epilepsies and rational methods of prevention and treatment.", the book represents an encyclopedic compendium neurobiological mechanisms of seizures, epileptogenesis, epilepsy genetics and comordid conditions. Of practical importance to the clinician, and new to this edition are disease mechanisms of genetic epilepsies and therapeutic approaches, ranging from novel antiepileptic drug targets to cell and gene therapies.

Metabolic Maps by Hiroyasu Aizawa Pdf

People working in development of drugs, pesticides, washing detergents, etc., are obliged by law to conduct analyses of the "metabolic pathways" or "maps" for the chemical compounds that they are using or proposing. Everyone in these industries or carrying out research toward such products is therefore interested in having a reference on these compounds. Covers literature relating to degradation and metabolic profiles of molecules Draws together the literature on degradation and metabolism patterns with that on diversified conditions of the environmental systems Indicates 3D chemical structures, predicted physico-chemical parameters, logP and the SMILES chemical notations of the parent compounds to assist scientists design the lead compounds for new discovery using computer-aided technology

Metabolic Maps of Pesticides by Hiroyasu Aizawa Pdf

Metabolic Maps of Pesticides provides a summary of investigations and drawings of the metabolic patterns on pesticides that were collected with the aid of Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) for the years 1970-1979. Some maps were taken from the original reports, some were slightly modified for clarity, and some were tentatively drawn from descriptions in the original articles. The pesticides are classified based on their chemical structures as functional groups or based on common chemical nomenclature. The chemical classifications highlight the properties of the mother pesticides and the impact of their degenerative metabolites on the environment. Metabolic maps are provided for the following: acid amides, amidines and guanidines, anilines and nitrobenzenes, biphenyl ethers, DDT and its analogs, dithio- and thiolcarbamates, five- and six-membered heterocyclic compounds, imides, organochlorine compounds, oxime carbamates, phenoxyacetic acids, pheny ring fused five-membered heterocyclic compounds, phenyl(aryl) carbamates, phenylureas and related compounds, phosphonothiolates and phosphonothioates, phosphonates, phosphorothioamides, phosphates, phosphorothiolates, pyrethroids, pyridines, triazines, and substituted benzenes and miscellaneous compounds.

Advances in Metabolic Mapping Techniques for Brain Imaging of Behavioral and Learning Functions by Francisco Gonzalez-Lima,Th. Finkenstädt,Henning Scheich Pdf

In recent years, revolutionary technical advances have permitted neuroscientists to map the functioning of the brain in exquisite detail. Of interest are the new techniques that visually display cell energy metabolism which is coupled to functional brain activity in behaving animals. This is the first book dealing with the application of 2-deoxyglucose and related metabolic mapping techniques for brain imaging of behavioral and learning functions. Quantitative autoradiographic techniques based on the use of exogenous markers include radiolabeled glucose and its analogs, especially 2-deoxyglucose and fluorodeoxyglucose. Other mapping techniques are based on the histochemical staining of endogenous metabolic markers such as cytochrome oxidase, as well as immunohistochemistry for expression of c-fos genes. In spite of the great potential capabilities of the new imaging techniques, relatively few neuroscientists are using this approach to study brain functions related to behavior. There is a need to review state-of-the-art applications of these methods in behavioral neuroscience, and to formulate recommendations for future research in this area. This book is intended to fulfill these needs by bringing together leading neuroscientists using metabolic mapping approaches to elucidate brain mechanisms of behavior. Discussions are not limited to one animal species, but they cover a broad range of vertebrates with unique behavioral capabilities.

Biochemical Pathways by Gerhard Michal,Dietmar Schomburg Pdf

The pathways and networks underlying biological function Now in its second edition, Biochemical Pathways continues to garner praise from students, instructors, and researchers for its clear, full-color illustrations of the pathways and networks that determine biological function. Biochemical Pathways examines the biochemistry of bacteria, plants, and animals. It offers a quick overview of the metabolic sequences in biochemical pathways, the chemistry and enzymology of conversions, the regulation of turnover, the expression of genes, the immunological interactions, and the metabolic background of health disorders. A standard set of conventions is used in all illustrations, enabling readers to easily gather information and compare the key elements of different biochemical pathways. For both quick and in-depth understanding, the book uses a combination of: Illustrations integrating many different features of the reactions and their interrelationships Tables listing the important system components and their function Text supplementing and expanding on the illustrated facts In the second edition, the volume has been expanded by 50 percent. Text and figures have undergone a thorough revision and update, reflecting the tremendous progress in biochemical knowledge in recent years. A guide to the relevant biochemical databases facilitates access to the extensive documentation of scientific knowledge. Biochemical Pathways, Second Edition is recommended for all students and researchers in such fields as biochemistry, molecular biology, medicine, organic chemistry, and pharmacology. The book's illustrated pathways aids the reader in understanding the complex set of biochemical reactions that occur in biological systems. From the reviews: “... highly recommended for every scientist and student working in biochemistry.” –Umwelt & Gesundheit 4/2012 (review in German language)

Chemical Pathways of Metabolism by David M. Greenberg Pdf

Chemical Pathways of Metabolism, Volume I focuses on the chemical steps involved in the metabolism of the major constituents of living organisms. The selection first elaborates on free energy and metabolism, enzymes in metabolic sequences, and glycolysis. Discussions focus on comparative biochemistry of glycolysis, enzymes of the glycolytic cycle, oxidative conversion of glucose to tetrose, transmethylation, and free energy and its determination. The manuscript then examines the tricarboxylic acid cycle and other pathways of carbohydrate metabolism. The text ponders on the biosynthesis of complex saccharides, including mechanisms of disaccharide formation, syntheses of branched polysaccharides, synthesis of levan from sucrose, and reversibility reactions by hydrolytic enzymes. The publication then elaborates on fat metabolism and acetoacetate formation and sterol and steroid metabolism. Topics include androgens, sterols, phospholipides or phosphatides, path of fat absorption, and theories of fatty acid breakdown and acetoacetate formation. The selection is a dependable reference for researchers interested in the chemical pathways of metabolism.

Reprogramming Microbial Metabolic Pathways by Xiaoyuan Wang,Jian Chen,Peter Quinn Pdf

Metabolic engineering has been developed over the past 20 years to become an important tool for the rational engineering of industrial microorganisms. This book has a particular interest in the methods and applications of metabolic engineering to improve the production and yield of a variety of different metabolites. The overall goal is to achieve a better understanding of the metabolism in different microorganisms, and provide a rational basis to reprogram microorganisms for improved biochemical production.
