Metamorphadox by Jarrett Heckbert Pdf

In a small corner of what was once known as North America, in the not-too-distant future, Neo-Toronto emerges as a prosperous island enclave after decades of war and unrest. In this world, knowledge is downloaded, learning is obsolete, cybernetic communication is the norm and even time travel is within reach. Citizens wholeheartedly embrace a doctrine of immortality, hoping to achieve Singularity—a state of autonomy so complete that human contact is rendered unnecessary. Jarrett Heckbert’s Metamorphadox presents a cautionary tale of a society that loses touch with physical reality. This suite of 81 wood engravings chronicles the chilling journey toward posthumanity in a dystopian future-world in which experience is always mediated and reality is undeniably, inescapably virtual.

The Wordless Leonard Cohen Songbook by George A. Walker Pdf

In The Wordless Leonard Cohen Songbook, master engraver George A. Walker provides a new perspective on a man whose words have captivated generations. Walker’s latest wordless narrative presents a suite of 80 wood engravings commemorating the life and artistic accomplishments of Leonard Cohen, the Montreal-born poet, novelist, and singer-songwriter whose career has spanned almost six decades. Best read to music, The Wordless Leonard Cohen Songbook presents images of Cohen’s iconic public persona alongside vivid interpretations of his ever-evolving work. The engravings compose a biographical mosaic that invites readers backstage, behind the curtains of Cohen’s critical and commercial acclaim. Some scenes are drawn from history; other depictions arise from imagination and interpretation. These images encourage us to search beyond the visual elements and to see in them a poem, a song, a meaningful turn of phrase. They urge us to look beyond the black and white and to consider Cohen’s life and work through the lens of our own experience. The Wordless Leonard Cohen Songbook originated in celebration of Cohen’s 80th birthday as a limited edition of 80 copies hand printed in Walker’s studio in Leslieville, Toronto.

Let Go by Mark Huebner Pdf

A lost job. A cardboard box. A raging blizzard. After being fired from his job, a veteran ad man is escorted from the office, carrying a cardboard box packed with mementos of his career. He steps out into a blinding blizzard, burdened by the weight of his collection. Each object tells a story, and as he navigates the city and makes his way home, he indulges in memories from his past: former colleagues, an award-winning campaign, a lost love. But faced with the demands of the present—and the very real danger of the snow-bound city streets—he must decide whether to hold on to the objects of his past, or to let go in the hopes of surviving the night. The bold, honest linocuts in Mark Huebner’s Let Go form an evocative narrative that distills over twenty years of memories into a single night of intense struggle against nature both meteorological and human.

The Life and Times of Conrad Black by George A. Walker Pdf

With a series of 100 woodcuts, master engraver George A. Walker presents in black and white the portrait of a man whose life has played out among the grey shadows of the media industry. Walker’s latest wordless novel introduces a measure of silence to one of the most outspoken and talked-about figures in modern Canadian history. The Life and Times of Conrad Black documents the eventful life of the Canadian-born media baron, from his earliest childhood influences, to his rise to power at the helm of Hollinger International, his membership in the British peerage, and the ruin of his business and his good name after being convicted of fraud. Stripped of the facts and circumstances but roughly ordered chronologically according key milestones in Black’s life, Walker conveys meaning not through verbal allegation, but through visual implication, presenting a unique perspective of Black’s life and the conditions that shaped it. The Life and Times of Conrad Black is a story of wealth and power, perception and reality, truth and lies, but Walker’s images teach us that no story has only two sides. This story is a polygon of meaning, and no one side contains all of the truth. The Life and Times of Conrad Black originated as a limited edition of 13 copies hand printed in Walker’s studio in Leslieville, Toronto.

The Meme Machine by Susan Blackmore Pdf

Humans are extraordinary creatures, with the unique ability among animals to imitate and so copy from one another ideas, habits, skills, behaviours, inventions, songs, and stories. These are all memes, a term first coined by Richard Dawkins in 1976 in his book The Selfish Gene. Memes, like genes, are replicators, and this enthralling book is an investigation of whether this link between genes and memes can lead to important discoveries about the nature of the inner self. Confronting the deepest questions about our inner selves, with all our emotions, memories, beliefs, and decisions, Susan Blackmore makes a compelling case for the theory that the inner self is merely an illusion created by the memes for the sake of replication.

Daddy Hall by Tony Miller Pdf

Born of a Mohawk father and an escaped-slave mother, John ‘Daddy’ Hall was a product of not one but two oppressed peoples. His gripping story is the stuff of legends—of the War of 1812, of the harsh realities slavery and of triumph in the face of adversity. Over the course of his 117-year life, Hall identified as a freeman, a scout for the British under Chief Tecumseh, a captured slave, an escapee on the Underground Railroad, a town crier in Owen Sound, Ontario, a husband and, as his nickname aptly suggests, father to an impressive number of children. Owen Sound-based artist Tony Miller’s 80 stark and arresting black-and-white linocuts present an unflinching portrait of a remarkable African-Canadian whose story of resilience and reinvention offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of Southwestern Ontario.

Underwater Channel Simulation by Pratheek Praveen Kumar,Ruchir Bhagat,Shiksha Suvarna Pdf

This work is authored by Pratheek Praveen Kumar along with Ruchir Bhgat and Shiksha Suvarna, all three Telecommunications Engineers. The need for underwater wireless communications exists in applications such as remote control in off-shore oil industry, pollution monitoring in environmental systems, collection of scientific data recorded at ocean-bottom stations, speech transmission between divers, and mapping of the ocean floor for detection of objects, as well as for the discovery of new resources. Wireless underwater communications can be established by transmission of acoustic waves. Underwater communications, which once were exclusively military, are extending into commercial fields. The possibility to maintain signal transmission, but eliminate physical connection of tethers, enables gathering of data from submerged instruments without human intervention, and unobstructed operation of unmanned or autonomous underwater vehicles (UUVs , AUVs). This is a study of the technology.

Trudeau: La Vie en Rose by George A. Walker Pdf

Pierre Elliott Trudeau was one of Canada’s most charismatic--and polarizing--politicians. His tenures as Prime Minister during the 1970s and 80s were marked by conflict and crisis but also by a sense of nationalism, the development of multiculturalism and Canadian pride. He is known for invoking the War Measures Act in response to FLQ terrorism during the October Crisis; for introducing the Official Languages Act to improve the position of francophones in Canada; and, perhaps most memorably, for the patriation of the Canadian constitution and the establishment of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Trudeau: La Vie en Rose pays tribute to the life and career of this influential Canadian. In a series of eighty wood engravings, George A. Walker documents Trudeau’s political achievements, events of cultural significance and famous friends while also capturing Trudeau’s confidence, passion and irreverence. Presented without captions and open to interpretation in any language, it is a testament to the multilingual culture of Canada and a celebration of the man whose political legacy has had a profound influence on the definition of Canadian culture. Trudeau: La Vie en Rose originated as a limited edition of 17 copies hand printed in Walker’s studio in Leslieville, Toronto.

Steganography Using Visual Cryptography by Pratheek Praveen Kumar,Ruchir Bhagat,Shiksha Suvarna Pdf

This work is authored by Pratheek Praveen Kumar along with Ruchir Bhgat and Shiksha Suvarna, all three Telecommunications Engineers. Digital Watermarking is the process of irreversibly embedding information into a digital signal. The signal may be audio, pictures or video. There are two types of Watermarking, Visible Watermarking and Invisible Watermarking. In Visible Watermarking, the information is visible in the picture or video. Typically, the information is text or a logo which identifies the owner of the media. Example of Visible Watermark is when a television broadcaster adds its logo to the corner of transmitted video. In Invisible Watermarking, information is added as digital data to audio, picture or video, but it cannot be perceived as such (although it is possible to detect the hidden information). Digital Watermarking schemes are widely being used as potential solution for ownership protection. The Watermarking algorithms in general, may be viewed as digital communication scheme for imperceptible transmission of an auxiliary message through cover image. Several software implementations of the proposed algorithms are available, but very few attempts have been made for the property of robustness and they are not able to provide the good visual Recovery Watermark Image (IWD) as user aspect. This is accomplished by spreading one watermark bit over many samples of the Cover data using a modulated spreading sequence. This is a study of this technology.

Never More Together by Steven McCabe Pdf

A tale of subjugation, protest, and transformation, Never More Together tells the story of what can become of a society that fears the truth. When the inhabitants of a harmonious Edenic community are invaded by the brutal Butterfly regime, they must learn to leave behind their tradition of complicit silence, find a strong new voice amidst the cacophony of state-sanctioned propaganda, and emerge into a hopeful future of freedom and social consciousness. Steven McCabe’s visual epic of more than 100 linocuts challenges readers to look beyond the surface, to decipher the layers of meaning in each image, and to immerse themselves in a complex, dystopian world full of symbolic references to our past, present, and possibly future condition.
