Mind, Mood, and Memory by Marcus Byruck Pdf

Marcus Byruck grew up in a one-room flat in the Jewish ghetto of London's East End. His father sold rags from a cart and his mother died in an asylum. Bright and ambitious, he escaped poverty to work his way to Oxford University and on to a career in the burgeoning computer industry of 1960's Silicon Valley. Then he experienced his first grand-mal seizure, breaking his back and launching a decades-long battle with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy. In this memoir, Marcus Byruck, aged 80, recounts the discovery of the rare form of amnesia associated with his epilepsy, which deletes memories of specific experiences, while leaving intact his ability to recall other forms of information. Since his condition ironically renders him unable to remember much of his life, he draws on the recollections of his wife and son, on the journals and records he meticulously maintained throughout his life, and on his ongoing relationships with the neuroscientists who have studied him. At each stage of his journey, he candidly describes his own psychological conditions, his struggles with debilitating depression and anxiety, and in the process offers an indictment of mainstream psychiatry's overreliance on the drugs which nearly killed him. The result is an intimate and ultimately uplifting portrait of a deeply gifted American immigrant, plagued by a disease that erases his reality with each new day.

Shadowlands - Mind, Mood and Memory by Gloria Bradley Pdf

Writing poetry has been a therapeutic process, allowing the author the luxury of analysing life with all its passion and mediocrity, from birth to death and all the in between, of dreams and beyond, including the possibility of an afterlife. War mongers and their victims, innocents sacrificed at the whim of deluded dictators, have dominated this anthology, raging at the decimation of masses in pointless persecution. Not least love and loss are themes so basic they hardly need an explanation, excepting that the written word somehow expands on our deepest, most urgent desires, releasing us from the mundane, allowing a glimpse of a perfect love we aspire to. The fun element in the work will lighten the tone and maybe help readers recognise the same scenarios when trying to live the best life they can. The various themes were mostly written by the author at random in reaction to the media, gossip and a mind in overdrive. Some passages of the book are composed of prose, sometimes inspired by a competition with a set agenda or the reworking of an old tale with a modern interpretation – the author’s labour of love!

Neural Plasticity and Memory by Federico Bermudez-Rattoni Pdf

A comprehensive, multidisciplinary review, Neural Plasticity and Memory: From Genes to Brain Imaging provides an in-depth, up-to-date analysis of the study of the neurobiology of memory. Leading specialists share their scientific experience in the field, covering a wide range of topics where molecular, genetic, behavioral, and brain imaging techniques have been used to investigate how cellular and brain circuits may be modified by experience. In each chapter, researchers present findings and explain their innovative methodologies. The book begins by introducing key issues and providing a historical overview of the field of memory consolidation. The following chapters review the putative genetic and molecular mechanisms of cell plasticity, elaborating on how experience could induce gene and protein expression and describing their role in synaptic plasticity underlying memory formation. They explore how putative modifications of brain circuits and synaptic elements through experience can become relatively permanent and hence improve brain function. Interdisciplinary reviews focus on how nerve cell circuitry, molecular expression, neurotransmitter release, and electrical activity are modified during the acquisition and consolidation of long-term memory. The book also covers receptor activation/deactivation by different neurotransmitters that enable the intracellular activation of second messengers during memory formation. It concludes with a summary of current research on the modulation and regulation that different neurotransmitters and stress hormones have on formation and consolidation of memory.

The Brain Fog Fix by Dr. Mike Dow Pdf

Is stress preventing you from enjoying your daily life? Do you find that you’re becoming more distracted or forgetful? Are "the blues" sapping your spirits? Or do you simply feel not quite like yourself? If you want to reclaim you focus, memory, and joy, you’re not alone. There are millions of people fighting against the epidemic of brain fog that’s sweeping the nation. The good news: It’s not an irreparable condition; rather it’s a side effect of modern-day living. Many of the foods we eat and the habits we have do not support our brains. We no longer get what we need in order to produce essential brain chemicals that keep us energized, calm, focused, optimistic, and inspired. And even worse, our choices could lead to long-term problems, like dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and anxiety. Sadly, if you look at the way most of us live, it seems almost as though we’ve chosen a lifestyle deliberately intended to undermine our brain chemistry and our health. Fortunately, there is a solution. The Brain Fog Fix is an easy-to-follow three-week program designed to help naturally restore three of your brain’s most crucial hormones: serotonin, dopamine, and cortisol. Rebalancing these chemicals will in turn enable the rest of your brain’s chemistry to reach optimal levels. Each week of the program focuses on a different element of your life: • In week 1, you’ll improve your mood by modifying your diet and using cognitive strategies to overcome pitfall thought patterns. • In week 2, you’ll increase your energy by focusing on sleep, exercise, and memory-boosting games. • In week 3, you’ll enhance your spirit through practices that help you connect to something larger than yourself and enable you to rediscover your joy in life. By the end of this simple program, you’ll be thinking more clearly, remembering more accurately, learning more quickly, and unleashing the floodgates of your creativity. And you’ll simply feel better – for now and in the long term.
