'Place', a sense of place of unique human attachment is the bedrock of the architectural approach by this Practice. The configuration of space and form, functional relationships of materials [and use] and defining, articulating and celebrating the design of a place represents MRY's methodology. There is a sense that their architecture is at the service of larger ideas about living, which is expressed in the process of place-making. This response to contemporary life, the influence of Charles Moore, the emphasis on shared architectural values - and much else besides - all form the focus of these pages. The range of recent, functionally varied projects from all over the world demonstrates how MRY's value system can be adapted and made suitable for almost every client and every project. Under the headings of Residential, Civic, Campus and Community and Masterplanning and Housing a selection of projects capture the essence of the themes pursued by this Practice over the past 30 years. The Grangegorman Masterplan, Dublin Institute of Technology is just one such expression of MRY's philosophy.Contents include: studio profile, selected bibliography, selected awards and exhibitions, project chronology and project credits

Presents the work of the internationally acclaimed, California-based firm Moore Ruble Yudell, whose expertise in community involvement and participatory design has influenced the course of contemporary architecture, particularly in the areas of housing and community projects.
Over the last two decades the University of Cincinnati has created a campus renowned for its internationally recognised architecture and planning. The campus now boasts one of the most extensive collections of contemporary architecture anywhere in the country. One of most compelling contributions to this program is Moore Ruble Yudell's Joseph A. Steger Student Life Center. Conceived as part of the university's Main Street Project, the building joins buildings designed by the internationally renowned firms of Morphosis and Gwathmey Siegel to frame a major campus pedestrian spine and a plaza designed by landscape architect George Hargreaves. In an especially brilliant stroke, all three structures overlook the university's Nippert Stadium. Surgically inserted into the campus fabric, the Joseph A. Steger Student Life Center plays multiple roles as an eye-catching landmark, a backdrop to the spaces around it and as a frame for vistas that provide clear pathways through a dense urban campus. A complex structure, it curves nearly six hundred feet in length and fifty-five feet of vertical, creating a long, thin envelope treated as a penetrable ribbon-like form. The dense mix of academic, social and retail programs inside the building, which includes an art gallery, retail store, coffee shop and student government offices, are inseparable from the surrounding campus spaces. By blurring the distinction between interior and exterior, architecture and landscape, the building provides a new model for buildings on other campuses nationwide.
