'What the Heck Are You Up To, Mr. President?' by Kevin Mattson Pdf

At a critical moment in Jimmy Carter's presidency, he gave a speech that should have changed the country, instead it led to his downfall and ushered in the rise of the Conservative movement in America. Kevin Mattson gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the weeks leading up to the speech, a period of great upheaval in the US: the energy crisis had generated mile-long gas lines, inciting suburban riots and violence, the country's morale was low and Carter's ratings were even lower. The administration, wracked by its own crises, was in constant turmoil and conflict. What came of their great internal struggle, which Mattson conveys with the excitement of a political thriller, was a speech that deserves a place alongside Lincoln's "Gettysburg Address" or FDR's First Inaugural. Prominent politicians on both sides of the aisle play important roles, including President Jimmy Carter, Vice President Walter Mondale, and speechwriter Hendrik Hertzberg, within the administration, and Jerry Falwell, Ronald Reagan, and Ted Kennedy, without. Like the best of political writing, Mattson provides great insight into the workings of the Carter White House as well as the moral crisis that ushered in a new, conservative America. Midlife Crisis: Adapt, Evolve, Survive by Bob Nguyen, M.D. Pdf

UNLIMITED HAPPINESS AND ETERNAL LIFE One is a fool’s errand and the other a distinct possibility. In this data-driven survival guide, Dr. Bob Nguyen takes you on a whirlwind campaign that covers these endeavors and much more. From building awareness and managing expectations, to life repurposing and fostering relationships, to adopting the latest anti-ageing and longevity biohacks, this book delivers a practical, actionable and wide-ranging response to the common calamity that is midlife crisis. In these pages, Nguyen first describes turmoil typical of each decade of life, detailing how COVID took the crisis out of midlife and made it a transgenerational pandemic. Suddenly, adults of all ages had the time and space to ponder their options and realize their need to adapt and evolve by discovering new routes to purpose and fulfillment. Following crisis, Nguyen then explores the mindsets and plots out the circuitous paths that can lead to emotional well-being and social connectivity. In the last section, he takes a science-based, literal approach to survival itself. He explores the process of ageing, shedding light on this DNA-centered phenomenon and unveiling the workarounds to its relentless progression. In this era of discovery, the quest for eternal life and the science to make it feasible seem on the cusp of converging. Weaving together fields as disparate as physics and philosophy, economics and religion, Nguyen writes an evidence-based manual that spins quite the socio-scientific yarn, mapping out a course for personal discovery and life-changing transformations. Catalyzed by crisis, this is a journey to find your best, longest life, regardless of your age. And with radically expanded human lifespan in scientists’ crosshairs, you better buckle up, lock in and get ready to adapt, evolve and survive!

Midlife Crisis by La Jill Hunt Pdf

Sylvia Blackwell has it all, or so she thinks. She and her handsome husband, Garrett, are the epitome of success: an immaculate house of their dreams, a beautiful and talented 17-year-old daughter, flourishing careers, and nearly twenty years of perfectly wedded bliss. Just as they are making plans for their vow renewal celebration, a call in the middle of the night interrupts their picture-perfect lives. Now Sylvia has to deal with the reality of Garrett’s dead mistress, a love child she never knew about, and the fact that the man she’s been married to for the past twenty years may not be the man she knows at all. Unlike her sister Sylvia, when it comes to love, Janelle Hudson can take it or leave it. Her on again, off again, noncommittal, stress-free friendship with Jarvis Baldwin is fine with her. But her life becomes complicated when she is faced with choosing between a sure thing with a good man or what feels right with the wrong one. Bestselling author LaJill Hunt is back with Midlife Crisis, an emotion-packed story of love, betrayal, and family loyalty. When lies are unveiled and secrets are revealed, can love be strong enough to forgive, even when you can’t forget? An abbreviated version of this novel entitled Jaded was previously published.

Good News, Bad News by C. John Mccloskey Pdf

Fr. John McCloskey has become a famous "convert maker" in the powerful corridors close to the White House. Having run the Catholic Information Center in the heart of Washington, DC from 1998 to 2004, McCloskey had direct contact with numerous well-known and lesser-known Washington figures. Among well-known Catholic converts instructed by Fr. McCloskey are Senator Sam Brownback, publisher Alfred Regnery, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, journalist Robert Novak and many others. This work is a joint effort of McCloskey and Russell Shaw, the widely read Catholic author, speaker, and former communications director for the U.S. bishops. Drawing on moving, firsthand accounts of conversions, this book combines personal testimony, solid theology, and effective methods of communicating the Catholic Faith. From personal experience, I can testify that Father C. John McCloskey is one of America's great Catholic evangelizers. This book is a unique, fascinating guide of how and why to convert, and it should be must reading for all Catholics. -Robert D. Novak, Syndicated Columnist Mr. Shaw and Fr. McCloskey have written a book about repentance, recovery, conversion, and joy. I recommend it because I have experienced it through Jesus, my Savior. -Lawrence Kudlow, Host CNBC's "Kudlow & Company" Through their friendship and their family life, Catholics converted the Roman Empire, on person at a time. This book shows you how it was done-and how it's still done today. It's a book that can change the world all over again. -Scott Hahn, author Rome Sweet Home This book ranks with Karl Stern's Pillar of Fire and Thomas Merton's Seven Storey Mountain as an indispensable spiritual road map for the perplexed, the sorely bent and the broken.I know: Father John McCloskey was my Virgil, guiding me gently and lovingly through the terrifying jungle of secular success to a place of infinite surcease - God's grace. -Dr. Bernard Nathanson, Pro-Life activist and author Fr. C.J. McCloskey and Russell Shaw are themselves incomparavle evangelists and apologists of the Curch. They are compelling writers. All should study them. -Lewis E.Lehrman, 2005 winner of the National Humanities Medal No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, pick this book up and be transformed both inside and out. -Raymond Arroyo, EWTN News Director and New York times bestselling author When it comes to leading people into full communion with the Catholic Church, Fulton J. Sheen was the John McCloskey of his day. -Robert P. George, Princeton University This book is calling all Catholics to share the gift of faith and shows them how to do so with winsome joy. -Rev. Richard John Neuhaus, Editor-In-chief of First Things Articulate and provocative. This is an important book we all need to read. -Bowie Kuhn, Former Commissioner of Professional Baseball. "There is no more articulate believer in the power and majesty of the Catholic Church than Fr. C. J. McCloskey. Any sincere searcher for Truth who is attracted to Christian--particularly Catholic--faith, will want to read this book. Agree or disagree with Fr. McClosky's unequivocal perspectives, his assertive witness provides much food for thought." -Wesley J. Smith Senior fellow, Discovery Institute and author of Culture of Death: The Assault on Medical Ethics in America. I've often wished that the call to Christian witness could come wi

Ono Ono Girl's Hula by Carolyn Lei-lanilau Pdf

Seventeen years after she married, Judith Strasser escaped her emotionally and physically abusive husband and sought a better way to live. In the process, Strasser rediscovered what she had suppressed through that long span of time: exceptional strength and a passion for writing. Black Eye includes excerpts from a journal Strasser kept from 1985 to1986, the year she made the decision to leave her marriage, and present-day commentary on the journal passages and her family history. Strasser works like a detective investigating her own life, drawing clarity and power from journal passages, dreams, and memories that originally emerged from confusion and despair. With language that is both insightful and poetic, she reveals the psychological and social circumstances that led a "strong" woman, an intelligent and politically active feminist, to become an emotionally dependent, abused wife. Not coincidentally, the same year that Strasser finally found the courage to leave her husband, she also reclaimed her creative voice. Newly empowered and energized by this enormous life change, Strasser began writing again after twenty-five silent years dominated by her mother s illness and death, her own cancer, and her painful, fearful marriage. Black Eye is one of the fruits of this creative reawakening. Strasser s writing is refreshingly honest and instantly engrossing. Not shy of wretchedness or beauty, Strasser s story is bitterly personal, ultimately triumphant, and inspiring to all who deal with the adversity that is part of human life."

Midlife Crisis at 30 by Lia Macko,Kerry Rubin Pdf

At 30 ... Former vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro was a stay-at-home mother. Founder and CEO of Oxygen Media Geraldine Laybourne was working at a public interest think tank for teachers. Political strategist Mary Matalin was a first-year law student--and about to drop out. And months prior to her thirtieth birthday, financial strategist and bestselling author Suze Orman was working as a waitress, making $400 a month. Decades later, these Boomer women and many others have reached the pinnacles of their professions. So why do Gen-X/Y women feel such pressure to have the perfect career, body, husband, and kids by the time they are at or around 30? Why has 30 become such a make-or-break moment? As the generation that came of age after the most visible glass ceilings had been broken, Gen-X/Y women were raised to believe in futures without limitations. Yet, as journalists Lia Macko and Kerry Rubin reveal in their fascinating investigation, many women have distorted the well-intentioned empowerment messages of their youth and are quietly blaming themselves when they fail to overcome the very real obstacles that still exist in our society. Though many Gen-X/Y women are hitting the same roadblocks at the same time, instead of questioning what's wrong with the system--as Boomer women did in their twenties--they're questioning their own "choices." Searching for solutions, Macko and Rubin have enlisted the aid of the New Girls' Club, a group of successful, satisfied women who've lived through their own crossroads moments, earned their battle scars, and now share their stories and strategies. While today's young women may indeed be a generation in the middle of a Midlife Crisis at 30, they now have a dream team of mentors to help guide them through it.

The Midlife Crisis by Florence Cestac Pdf

Usually around about the 40 mark, the human male has a habit of leaving his well-worn spouse in search of greener pastures. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side. Florence Cestac dissects this subject of common interest, from the very first symptoms right up to the final outbreak, via the pangs of "bathrobe-sofa" depression. "You're the love of my life! But with her, it's something else... she's a fairy," declares our hero with the touching honesty of a male en route to adventure. So once our hero's skipped off into the sunset with his fairy, our heroine begins asking herself a series of counter-productive questions regarding her general attitude and in particular her cellulite. She then 1). Discovers that everyone else knew about it all along 2). Listens to the questionable opinions of her girlfriends 3). Attempts to rekindle old flames dug out of her old phone book and to kindle new ones in her local DIY store. She explains to her kid that Daddy "just took a little jaunt over to Mars," which the kid in turn interprets as "Daddy flew to Mars with a slut that Mommy doesn't like." She manages to raise her spirits with "tiptopform," drinks a bit, weeps a lot, and buries the dog who decided to die right in the middle of it all - cherry on the cake. Anyway, she "handles it" and she survives. Between giggles and anguish, this will touch anyone who's ever felt the sting of that wonderful thing we call love. Disarmingly frank, with endearingly crude humor and a perfect understanding of her subject, this is Florence Cestac on top form.

T.E.B.: Doctoring in an Age of Scientific Medicine by Alan L. Graber, MD Pdf

In T.E.B., Dr. Alan Graber examines the influence and legacy of Dr. Thomas Evans Brittingham II, a legendary physician and educator at Vanderbilt University. Brittingham embodied what it meant to be a doctor. He taught his trainees-by his example-how to care for sick people. This book demonstrates Brittingham as an exemplar of a medical era when a doctor's history and physical exam were the principal means of diagnosis. Brittingham's practice of doctoring still represents the essence of good patient care. "This is much more than a biography. T.E.B. was a master of bedside clinical medicine and left his legend to a generation of young doctors. If anyone was ever 'called' to the profession of medicine, it was T.E.B." -Clifton K. Meador, MD, Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, Vanderbilt University
