Multi-Project Strategy and Market-Share Growth by Kentaro Nobeoka Pdf

Excerpt from Multi-Project Strategy and Market-Share Growth: The Benefits of Rapid Design Transfer in New Product Development This study focuses on two other perspectives that have been often underestimated with respect to different ways to utilize existing product technologies within the firm. First, technologies that are based on existing products with some modifications or enhancements can be used in a redesign of the same product line for a replacement, or in other cases they can also be transferred to another product line that targets a different market segment from the original product. While, in the first case, firms enhance the competitiveness of an original product, in the second case, they transfer technologies of one product to others to capture a new market segment and achieve economies of scope in development. These two different applications of the same incremental change scheme have clearly different implications on market competition at the corporate level. It is necessary to analyze the impact of the incremental changes by separating effects of the pure product enhancement verses the scope strategies. Thinking Beyond Lean by Michael A. Cusumano,Kentarō Nobeoka Pdf

Cusumano and Nobeoka the bestselling coauthors of MICROSOFT SECRETS, reveal how Toyota and other leading automobile makers achieve remarkable savings and growth by using shared technology and organisational capabilities across multiple projects. THINKING BEYOND LEAN explains how to manage product development more strategically and efficiently, focusing on a concept the authors call "multi-project management". In contrast, most books on product development deal with how to manage products one at a time. The basic idea of multi-product management is to create new products that share key components but to utilise separate development teams that ensure each product will differ enough to attract different customers. Taking up where THE MACHINE THAT CHANGED THE WORLD left off, THINKING BEYOND LEAN will change the way leaders do business now and in the future.

Industrial Innovation in Japan by Takuji Hara,Norio Kambayashi,Noboru Matsushima Pdf

In this new book, Hara, Kambayashi and Matsushima gather together a collection of case studies of innovation in various industries in modern Japan, including automobile, electronics, semiconductor, component, chemical, pharmaceutical and service industries. Unlike other books in this area, this book focuses on a broader range of Japanese industries from the post world war era to the modern day and considers the relationships between the characteristics of innovation and the features of Japanese society. These chapters demonstrate Japan’s shift from being product-oriented and domestic to being business system-oriented and global. Meanwhile the process of innovation in Japan continues to include the tendency of eliminating uncertainty through intimate in-process interaction between different functions, rather than through preset rule or contracts. This book goes some way in challenging accepted notions of Japanese innovation, emphasising new and diverse trends and practises.

While that is a part of the crisis management process, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape takes a long term approach and offers a strategic orientation to crisis management. The text follows a four stage crisis management framework: Landscape survey (anticipating crisis events), strategic planning (setting up the crisis management team and plan), crisis management (addressing the crisis when it occurs), and organizational learning (applying lessons from crisis so they will be prevented, or at least mitigated in the future). Routledge Handbook of Industry and Development by John Weiss,Michael Tribe Pdf

The Routledge Handbook of Industry and Development is a global overview of industrialisation. Each chapter will provide readers with contemporary insights into this this essential aspect of economic development. Industrialisation has been at the forefront of discussion on economic development since the earliest days of development economics. But over the last fifty years, the manufacturing sectors of different countries and regions have grown at strikingly different rates. In 1960 developing countries took a very small share of global manufacturing production. Today the position had changed radically with fast growth of manufacturing in many parts of what was originally the developing world, particularly in China and the rest of East Asia. On the other hand, countries in Africa and parts of Latin America have been largely left behind by this process of industrialisation. This volume aims to illuminate this uneven development and takes stock of the current issues that hinder and support industrialisation in low and middle income economies. This Handbook is a collection of chapters on different aspects of industrialisation experience in a range of countries. Key themes include, the role of manufacturing in growth, the nature of structural change at different stages of development, the role of manufacturing in employment creation, alternative options for trade and industrial policy, the key role of technology and technical change, and the impact of globalisation and the spread of global value chains and foreign direct investment on prospects for industrialisation. Several chapters discuss individual country experiences with examples from India, Mexico, South Africa and Tanzania, as well as an overview of African industrialisation. This authoritative Handbook will be a key reference source for those studying or wishing to understand contemporary economic development. Offering inspiration and direction for future research, this landmark volume will be of crucial importance to all development economics scholars and researchers.
