My Nana's Voice by Alicia McMahon Pdf

Protagonist and first person narrator, Alicia McMahon begins her memoir later in her life with a description of her vision to produce a tribute book for her ailing Nana Murphy. Her Nana still lived in the village she grew up in, Foynes, County Limerick, Ireland. This leads to a very poignant conversation Alicia has with her Nana a few months later. Alicia then explains how life was growing up in a little Parrish in Ireland and shares her stories from hardships to shenanigans. By the time Alicia is 18 years old, she finds herself leaving Ireland due to a recession and brings us on her journey to the United States. Once in the U.S. she shares terrifying situations that she experiences as a young mother of two and how her "Crone Voice" has guided her throughout tough situations in her life there. Alicia's story is unusual in that, at one point in time she went from being homeless in a battered women's shelter with her two young daughters to working directly on Bill Gates personal CEO Summit, all within a short period of time. Throughout her journey, she helps the reader understand how she developed her own understanding of intuition (she calls it her Crone Voice) and how that aided her through her story. At the end of each chapter, Alicia shares a pertinent quote that reflects her strength/thoughts of that time in her life. After Alicia raised her two Daughters (Seánalee and Brennalynn) into adulthood, she now finds herself in an emotional quandary.

The Sound of Laughter by Peter Kay Pdf

Peter Kay's unerring gift for observing the absurdities and eccentricities of family life has earned himself a widespread, everyman appeal. These vivid observations coupled with a kind of nostalgia that never fails to grab his audience's shared understanding, have earned him comparisons with Alan Bennett and Ronnie Barker. In his award winning TV series' he creates worlds populated by degenerate, bitter, useless, endearing and always recognisable characters which have attracted a huge and loyal following. In many ways he's an old fashioned kind of comedian and the scope and enormity of his fanbase reflects this. He doesn't tell jokes about politics or sex, but rather rejoices in the far funnier areas of life: elderly relatives and answering machines, dads dancing badly at weddings, garlic bread and cheesecake, your mum's HRT... His autobiography is full of this kind of humour and nostalgia, beginning with Kay's first ever driving lesson, taking him back through his Bolton childhood, the numerous jobs he held after school and leading up until the time he passed his driving test and found fame.

It is my hope and prayer that after reading this book society will commit to rethinking its look at ex-offenders and what positive impact they can bring to society--- if they are given a fair chance. Danielle grew up confused and feeling abandoned. She moved from place to place; first with her mother, then a group home, then her grandmother, then her father. She grew up feeling that she was unwanted by everyone. Her father and step mother struggled with addiction; her biological mother may have struggled with the same types of issues. She had to live with the guilt of fatal choices she made in her young life which carried through to her adulthood. Danielle struggled with addiction and criminal activity throughout her own life. She spent a large portion of her life in battling the judicial system. She endured physical abuse as a child and as an adult. Death seemed to frequent her life and all those she thought loved and care about her seem to pass away. Her life events seem to finally open her eyes to making a change in her life. When Danielle lost her father she wanted to get high for the first time since her release from prison. She didn't know what to do with her emotions. She sat in the cold hospital emergency room and thought about her life and what using drugs again would mean for her. Rather than jump up and give in to her moment of weakness.. she waited. Danielle discovered that taking away the drugs was only half of her battle. .f.l.o.a.t.i.n.g. by Nana S. Achampong Pdf

“ From the daily death of the sun to the cry of a sister for the life of a brother, from [John] Coltrane’s melodic place in history to the griot’s spoken path creating history, we view places seen and unseen. Paths traveled with timeworn shoes and an international vision. Pain and joy from a heart full from the sights of many missions.†Sandi Mallory, WEAA 88.9 FM, Lite FM.
