My Study of Judo by G. Koizumi Pdf

In this book, G. Koizumi, internationally known authority and the "father" of Judo in the West, draws upon his lifelong experience to present the principles and technical fundamentals of this exciting sport. The various schools of Ju Jutsu including all their techniques, traditional methods and secrets of the art, are explained. Each position and throw is illustrated with a clear, easy-to-follow photograph. The real value of Judo lies in the effects which the training produces on the state of the body and mind. The emphasis on both technique and philosophic rationale is what distinguishes My Study of Judo from other books on the subject. ABOUT THE AUTHOR G. Koizumi, 7th Dan, founded Judo in Great Britain and throughout Europe. He was the President of the Budokwai, London, the official headquarters of Judo, and President of the British Judo Association and British Council and Register of Black Belts. In his early days he studied the various schools of ju jutsu, including 144 techniques of Akishima Ryu, before joining Tokyo's famous Kodokan in 1920. A dedicated judoka, he had spent all his spare time populating the Judo movement, and it was largely through his efforts that Judo was included in the International Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964.

Kodokan Judo by Jigoro Kano Pdf

Judo, or the Way of Gentleness, an ideal form of physical exercise and a reliable system. of self-defense, was specially created from traditional Japanese martial arts. This book by the creator of Kodokan judo is uniquely comprehensive and the most authoritative guide to this martial art ever published. Over a hundred years ago Jigoro Kano mastered swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat. Failing to discover any underlying principle, he set about designing a new martial art to reflect the concept of maximum efficiency in the use of physical and mental energy. Today, the concepts and techniques of judo taught at the Kodokan are the ones originally devised by their creator and collected together in this book. Covering everything from the fundamental techniques to prearranged formal exercises for both men and women, the book offers detailed explanations of how techniques are combined in two types of practice: randori (free practice) and kata (the practice of forms). In addition to a discussion of traditional methods of resuscitation, the book concludes with a useful appendix of information on the founder and the Kodokan International Judo Center, and a glossary of judo terminology. Fully illustrated throughout, Kodokan Judo will help students and instructors everywhere to discover the principles, techniques, and spirit of this popular martial art.

My Judo - by Mick Cutajar Pdf

My Judo Counters & Combinations—Volume 2 depicts the martial art not only from a competitor's point of view, but also from an instructor's aspect, any martial arts trainer would be mad not to hold a copy. It religiously follows the teachings of the great architect of Judo, ‘Professor Jigoro Kano'—a master who has always tried to expand a Judoka's education and encouraged his students to apply their own minds to inventing new moves and counter moves. In striving to achieve Professor Kano’s aims, one can only begin to understand the true mechanics of the sport of Judo as a self-defense mechanism and, indeed, the creed that underscores this martial art. In this book, the author shares a brief history of Judo and how it has become a way of life for him—a passion that he wishes to share with the people around him. As well, My Judo Counters & Combinations—Volume 2 aims to explain and provide visual examples of Judo Methods which include techniques—from the intermediate methods of foot and leg reaps, foot sweeps to high end hips and major leg throws, most commanly used in MMA today, followed by 4-5 counters and combination for each method. The easy step by step photos will guide you through a world not published before, making it one of the must volumes to have at home or at the do-jo Judo is an acquired art and once one is trained in its mechanics, it will become a lifetime skill that will enrich his or her life. Volume 2 is not a beginner’s training book. It would be best used as a training and education manual designed to compliment one's study of the sport of Judo such as the course of sports coaching specialising in martial arts. Most of the techniques shown can be used in all martial art type sport such as Judo, striking Jujutsu and full submission no rules contest. The Way of Judo by John Stevens Pdf

Kodokan judo, one of the most well-known martial arts in the world today, was originated by Jigoro Kano (1860–1938), a martial artist and career educator who developed the art after studying several types of jujutsu, sumo, and Western wrestling. Openness and refinement were hallmarks of his personal and professional style, and he relentlessly searched for the best way to practice, teach, and perform techniques. This biography shows how Kano saw judo as a vehicle not just for self-defense, but for physical, spiritual, and moral development as well. His teachings clearly emphasize his ideal of judo as a way of self-cultivation that leads to physical health, ethical behavior, and ultimately a better society. Kano was a tireless activist who promoted the practical application of judo’s principles in all realms of life—in one’s personal behavior, for education, in work, for economic benefit, and in both the local and international political arenas. Kano’s students were a colorful, sometimes notorious bunch, and this book reveals how several went on to become famous—or infamous—in their own right. They include a prime minister of Japan, the leader of the Communist party in China, a famous novelist, a spy, high-level military leaders, and a media mogul, among many others.
