BIOS Instant Notes in Neuroscience by Alan Longstaff Pdf
The second edition of Instant Notes in Neuroscience covers neuroanatomy, cellular and molecular neuroscience, systems neuroscience, behavior, development of the nervous system, learning, memory, and common brain disorders. It gives rapid and easy access to the core of the subject in an affordable and manageable-sized text.
In this book, I have selected topics that are representative of neuroscience inquiry, retaining brief references to a larger context that includes the study of neurology, anthropology, paleontology, computer science and philosophy. There have been several attempts to develop a "theory" of brain function that incorporates a large collection of observations, experimental results and a growing understanding of the innate features of human nature. I doubt that a single theory is feasible and suggest that the goal is integration of knowledge from diverse disciplines into a comprehensive understanding of who we are and why we are the way we are.

Neurology and Clinical Neuroscience by Roger Brumback Pdf
The United States Congress has designated the 1990s as the "Decade of the Brain" in recognition of the major importance of neurology and the other neurosciences in the health and well-being of Americans. It has been suggested that as many as 20% of all patients seeking medical treatment have neurologic problems, either as the presenting complaint or as an associated condition complicating the primary illness. Thus, it is fitting that Springer-Verlag should acknowledge the prominence of this medical specialty area by devoting an entire volume of the Oklahoma Notes series to neurology and clinical neuroscience. Of course, this text is an outline overview and does not attempt to provide ency clopedic coverage of neurology (the student desiring a comprehensive review of the field may wish to seek in the library the 60 + volumes in the series Handbook of Clinical Neurology edited by Pierre J. Vinken and George W. Bruyn). However, the information selected for inclusion in this volume of the Oklahoma Notes series remains true to the goal of the whole series-only materials vital in both the general clinical practice of medicine and to answer questions on the all-important United States Medical Licensing Examination have been incorporated in the text. Roger A. Brumback, M.D.
This new edition will be an even more tightly constructed overview of the subject that the first edition that will enable easy access to core information making it an ideal resource for learning and studying before exams. New topics include emotion, language, schizophrenia and depression.

The human mind and brain are now among the hottest subjects in scientific research. Breakthrough techniques mean we are on the verge of being able to read minds, to control actions direct from the brain, to change or enhance the way our thinking works. Kathleen Taylor explores the astonishing possibilities and the ethical implications.

Machine Learning in Clinical Neuroscience by Victor E. Staartjes,Luca Regli,Carlo Serra Pdf
This book bridges the gap between data scientists and clinicians by introducing all relevant aspects of machine learning in an accessible way, and will certainly foster new and serendipitous applications of machine learning in the clinical neurosciences. Building from the ground up by communicating the foundational knowledge and intuitions first before progressing to more advanced and specific topics, the book is well-suited even for clinicians without prior machine learning experience. Authored by a wide array of experienced global machine learning groups, the book is aimed at clinicians who are interested in mastering the basics of machine learning and who wish to get started with their own machine learning research. The volume is structured in two major parts: The first uniquely introduces all major concepts in clinical machine learning from the ground up, and includes step-by-step instructions on how to correctly develop and validate clinical prediction models. It also includes methodological and conceptual foundations of other applications of machine learning in clinical neuroscience, such as applications of machine learning to neuroimaging, natural language processing, and time series analysis. The second part provides an overview of some state-of-the-art applications of these methodologies. The Machine Intelligence in Clinical Neuroscience (MICN) Laboratory at the Department of Neurosurgery of the University Hospital Zurich studies clinical applications of machine intelligence to improve patient care in clinical neuroscience. The group focuses on diagnostic, prognostic and predictive analytics that aid in decision-making by increasing objectivity and transparency to patients. Other major interests of our group members are in medical imaging, and intraoperative applications of machine vision.

Tutorials in Mathematical Biosciences I by Alla Borisyuk,G. Bard Ermentrout,Avner Friedman,David H. Terman Pdf
This volume introduces some basic theories on computational neuroscience. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to neurons, tailored to the subsequent chapters. Chapter 2 is a self-contained introduction to dynamical systems and bifurcation theory, oriented towards neuronal dynamics. The theory is illustrated with a model of Parkinson's disease. Chapter 3 reviews the theory of coupled neural oscillators observed throughout the nervous systems at all levels; it describes how oscillations arise, what pattern they take, and how they depend on excitory or inhibitory synaptic connections. Chapter 4 specializes to one particular neuronal system, namely, the auditory system. It includes a self-contained introduction, from the anatomy and physiology of the inner ear to the neuronal network that connects the hair cells to the cortex, and describes various models of subsystems.
Basic Molecular Protocols in Neuroscience: Tips, Tricks, and Pitfalls by John T. Corthell Pdf
Basic Neuroscience Protocols: Tips, Tricks, and Pitfalls contains explanatory sections that describe the techniques and what each technique really tells the researcher on a scientific level. These explanations describe relevant controls, troubleshooting, and reaction components for some of the most widely used neuroscience protocols that remain difficult for many neuroscientists to implement successfully. Having this additional information will help researchers ensure that their experiments work the first time, and will also minimize the time spent working on a technique only to discover that the problem was them, and not their materials. Describes techniques in very specific detail with step-by-step instructions, giving researchers in-depth understanding Offers many details not present in other protocol books Describes relevant controls for each technique and what those controls mean Chapters include references (key articles, books, protocols) for additional study Describes both the techniques and the habits necessary to get quality results, such as aseptic technique, aliquoting, and general laboratory rules

Neuropathology and Basic Neuroscience by Roger A. Brumback,Richard W. Leech Pdf
The United States Congress designated the 1990's as the "Decade of the Brain" in recognition of the importance of neuroscience to the health and well-being of Americans. It has been suggested that as many as 20% of all patients seeking medical treatment have neurologic problems, either as the presenting complaint or as an associated condition complicating the primary illness. To this end, it is important that physicians understand basic neuroscience principles and nervous system diseases. Of course, this text is not encyclopedic but instead is an outline of the knowledge required of all medical students. Interested students can consult numerous texts that provide comprehensive coverage of the field, including Greenfield's Neuropathology and the exhaustive 60 + volume Handbook of Clinical Neurology. The information selected for inclusion in this volume of the Oklahoma Notes series remains true to the goal of the whole series-incorporating only that material vital in both the general clinical practice of medicine and to answer questions on the all-important United States Medical Licensing Examination.
