Smart Rules for Smart Cities by Eleonora Riva Sanseverino,Raffaella Riva Sanseverino,Valentina Vaccaro,Gaetano Zizzo Pdf

This book explores the new rules and codes that are required in order to foster the implementation of smart city technologies with a view to meeting the environmental and energy challenges posed by dynamic contemporary cities with increasing populations. In particular, it proposes a methodological approach suitable for use when devising a smart urban/building code for local administrations, taking into account the current European regulatory framework (directives and technical norms) and evaluating the economic feasibility of the suggested measures. A case study is made of a large Mediterranean city in Italy that can be regarded as a paradigm of urban evolution, where a traditional individualism poses a cultural obstacle to the emerging need to share resources. Further features include a smart cities atlas, explanation of how to create local rules for sustainable building restoration/construction, and guidance on economic evaluation of the impact of building automation and passive measures for energy efficiency. The book, which has a multidisciplinary perspective, will be of value to all who are interested in the transition to smart cities that can meet sustainable development targets.

Glimmer by Warren Berger Pdf

The first mainstream book to explore how the problem-solving, creative and insightful powers of Bruce Mau and the world’s other great designers can be applied to our everyday lives and businesses — and spawn creative epiphanies around the world. What can be learned from great designers? How can design improve our lives? Answers abound in Glimmer. In the cutting-edge studios of Canadian design phenomenon Bruce Mau and other visionary designers, everything is ripe for reinvention — including how businesses function, children learn and communities thrive. Warren Berger, with the full cooperation of Mau, tallies and explores the deceptively simple principles that steer design’s vanguard — “ask stupid questions,” “begin anywhere” and “make hope visible” — and illustrates how these and other such principles can provide the means for finding hope in these anxious times.

Separating Pro-Environment Technologies for Waste Treatment, Soil and Sediments Remediation by Vincenzo Gente,Floriana La Marca Pdf

The removal of contaminants and pollutants from natural or valuable materials is a critical issue in environmental management and conservation. Fundamentally, the procedure consists of measures employed to separate what is good (recyclable materials, soil and sediments) from what is bad (non recyclable materials, contaminants). A perspective of current technologies developed for mineral processing is of great assistance for finding appropriate solutions for different environmental situations. The liberation and separation processes adopted to recover valuable minerals from a gangue are, in principle, the same processes that can be applied to waste materials for recovering useful materials and to soil and sediments to reduce contamination. Separating Pro-Environment Technologies for Waste Treatment, Soil and Sediments Remediation investigates how technologies for separation, that take origin form mineral processing, have improved and evolved when applied to waste treatment and soil and sediment remediation.

Decentralised Energy by Christoph Burger,Antony Froggatt,Catherine Mitchell,Jens Weinmann Pdf

The energy system is undergoing a fundamental transformation – from fossil to renewable energy, from central power plants to distributed, decentralised generation facilities such as rooftop solar panels or wind parks, from utilities to private residents as producers of energy, and from analogue to digital. This book looks at the energy transformation from two complementary angles: governance and business model innovation. On the one side, governance is a decisive factor for the success of the transformation because it can act as an accelerator, or it can delay the process. On the other side, entrepreneurs and corporate decision-makers provide new business models for a decentralised energy world. Based on best practices, country studies and interviews with CEOs and founders of startups from all over the world, the “Global Game Changer” suggests eight key principles for political decision-makers to successfully implement the transformation, and six core competencies for corporate decision-makers to thrive in the new marketplace.

Needs and Barriers of Prosumerism in the Energy Transition Era by Anonim Pdf

The effective enforcement of energy transition is one of the keys to the successful fight to climate change. The interplay between the sustainable UN Agenda 2030 goals is a new interesting ground for the development of intersectorial and multidisciplinary studies. Thanks to University of Camerino which is focused on the contamination between different scientific areas and really engaged in strengthening international research, a group composed by more than forty researchers of ten different nationalities is studying the energy policies and the new phenomenon of energy prosumerism. This book is the first direct result of the research activities granted by University of Camerino under the Programme FAR 2019 in the ECPE Project ‘Enabling Consumer to become Prosumer in the Energy transition era’ (more details about the project ECPE are available at https://ecpe.unicam.it/). The object of this book is to collect and analyze the main barriers to self-consumption and prosumerism. Difficult as it is to discuss all obstacles in a single volume, the book focuses on selected barriers which impede the development of new types of fossil free energy production and consuption. The energy communities could play a central role in the implementation of the energy transition strategies, but legal, social, economic, political and cultural barriers can hinder their spread. To analyze the barriers and to find how to eliminate the obstacles to energy transition policies is pivotal to enhance research activities focused on the new EU Regulatory framework. Most in general it is crucial a multidisciplinary approach focused on the fight to climate change and the implementation of sustainable development. In this book are collected several articles which offer a different perspective on the energy transition barriers form different points of view and under different methodologies. The book is composed of four parties. The first one is dedicated to the analysis of the methodology and the results offered by questionnaires supplied online in two languages (Italian/English). The survey is the basis of the Working Paper which is the deliverable of the ECPE Work Programme n. 2 and which constitutes the ground for a discussion into the research group. The second part of the volume collects the contributions focused on the social and economic barriers to prosumerism, while the third one is dedicated to a description of failure cases of self consumption. Lesson learned by failure experiences in the world could favour a good implementation of the new EU Directive Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001 ( RED II) and Directive on common, rules for the internal market for electricity 2019/944 ( IEM) in Italy an European Country which is strategic in the Energy policy of the Foreword 1 Mediterranean area. The last part of the book is composed of the visions and perspectives offered by Italian testimonials engaged as actors in the new energy market with different roles. I am grateful for the generous support given by the editorial staff composed by Gopi Battinemi, Roberto Garetto, Federico Pascucci, Giovanni Russo and Karina Zabrodina, precious collaborators and valid researchers. Thanks also to the Scientific Committee which honoured our work: Marine Cornelis, Francisco Lledó Yagüe and Luis E. Quintero. As editor I am sure you will appreciate the volume which would like to offer an insight on new issues and challenges offered by the energy transition era.

How to Handle Risk! by George D. Robson Pdf

Who can use this? When I began this project, I was primarily targeting business leaders and project managers. However, as I progressed, I realized I was using day-to-day examples to illustrate how it works. Consequently, the application of this process is much broader than just the business arena. Therefore, I had to ensure that I present it appropriately. We all face daily challenges, issues, and risks that create some level of uneasiness or worry. How we handle our issues can mean the difference between success and failure. This simple process can help address everyday issues and personal risks with a greater level of confidence. No matter if we are in a business or personal environment, it can help make objective-based decisions and avoid unhelpful and stressful subjective discussions. Its a simple tool for the masses! Lets talk about risk! When the subject of risk comes up in our house, my wife is quick to tell me that Im not a risk-taker. Of course, I counter that taking a risk depends on several things. Its all about how I handle risks. I will take a risk if the probability of something going wrong is low and the impact is also low! So when I talk about risk, I include two factorsprobability and impactwhich must be characterized objectively and in terms that can be quantified. This book will arm you with a process that is simple to understand and apply. This form of risk management does not have complex formulas and financial forecast models and is not confusing. It is common sense harnessed in a simple process! How most of us handle risk: 1. We see issues. 2. We talk about them. 3. We avoid doing anything. 4. We bury them and then worry. 5. We regret! We lament and say I wont let that happen again! 6. We may have to apologize. 7. Unfortunately, sometimes we are forced to find a new job! Sounds familiar? Most people naturally do the first two steps. But the fear of failure, lack of tools or frameworks, laziness, already-full-plate syndrome (insert excuse here) and its on to steps 3 and beyond. But nonot you! This time you decided to pick up this book to learn how to equip yourself with the best tools for managing your personal risks. Thank you for giving it a try. Now its your turn to experience the powerful simplicity and relief from worry!
