No Worries Hawaii: a Vacation Planning Guide for Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island by Janine Sprout,Jerry Sprout Pdf

Aloha awaits with the third edition 2018 of NO WORRIES HAWAII!"The collaborative work of Janine and Jerry Sprout, 'No Worries Hawaii' is a superbly organized, beautifully illustrated, and well-informed guide for planning memorable trips thoughout Hawaii, whether for business or for pleasure, whether as a day trip, a weekend getaway, or an extended vacation. Anyone planning a trip should begin by browsing through a copy to insure their itinerary will provide them with the very best Hawaii has to offer" James A. Cox, Small Press Bookwatch.Half of Hawaii's 8 million yearly tourists are first-timers, often unsure which island is best for them, where to stay, and what to choose to do among thousands of offerings. NO WORRIES HAWAII, a companion book to the Sprout's adventure guides, comes to the rescue . No Worries is also useful for repeat visitors or locals looking for new adventures, who may not be sure of what's available on other islands--or who want to find new places to explore.Readers first take an Armchair Voyage, in which they nail down their vacation style (a scouting expedition, a romantic getaway, a solo or group adventure, invigorating, relaxing, healing). These likings are matched with what Hawaii has to offer. A clever but simple SELF-TEST allows readers to sort through Hawaii's assets: beaches, nightlife, trails, gardens, attractions, cultural sites, surfing, snorkeling, 36 categories in all, to determine which are important and in which island you'll be living the dream. In the second part of NO WORRIES HAWAII, readers take their decisions from part one and receive all the practical and money-saving advice needed to book a vacation that makes the armchair voyage become a real one. A review of different locales (beach cottages, high end resorts, budget condos, mountain inns, etc.) lets readers pick the best and find places they may want to avoid. (Specific accommodations for these locales are in the Wikiwiki Websites in the back of the book.) Included also is a complete list of what to pack and wear. The third part of the book is full of tips on what to do and what not to do after arriving in the islands. Readers will deplane as kama'aina (locals), having the benefit of the Sprout's 20-plus years of exploration. Sections include how to plan days to maximize fun, save money, and avoid hassles, as well as car rental and accommodation money-savers. Readers are advised on how to, and whether to, book tours (snorkeling, sailing, helicopter, horseback, etc.). The book's safety tips are a literal lifesaver, and the everyday advice on driving, hiking, and beach-going are essential for getting the most fun out of every day.The meat of NO WORRIES HAWAII is its Best Of section, a listing of Hawaii's top attractions: museums, rainforest dayhikes, snorkeling coves, walk-around beach towns, surfing spots, places to watch surfers, mountain bike trails, people-watching beaches, botanical gardens, short strolls to views, cultural sites, luxury resorts, volcano hikes, bird-watching forests, waterfalls, churches, remote beaches, family beach parks, golf courses, and more. Taken together, the 50 categories neatly sum up the best of Hawaii. Readers can use these listings as a reference when they get to their chosen island.NO WORRIES HAWAII is beautifully designed, complimented by more than 100 color photographs. The last section is the WIKIWIKI WEBSITES, containing links and phone numbers for all the hand-picked accommodations, attractions, visitors sites, and tour companions and outfitters.

Hawaii No Ka Oi by Edward Sakamoto Pdf

In The Taste of Kona Coffee, two nisei brothers, Aki and Tosh, fight to free themselves from the prison of old-world traditions and poverty only to find themselves bound by the constraints of neocolonialism. In Manoa Valley, set some thirty years later, Tosh, now a successful building contractor in Honolulu, must reconcile his image of the future with that of his son, Spencer, who dreams of life in mainland America. The third play, The Life of the Land, is set in 1980. Spencer has achieved his goals but at the cost of alienating himself from his family and his culture. Hawaii No Ka Oi presents an important aspect of Japanese American social history in Hawaii, yet it reflects the immigrant experience of other ethnic groups. These are plays with which Americans of all backgrounds can identify.

At Home and Abroad by Elizabeth Shakman Hurd,Winnifred Fallers Sullivan Pdf

From right to left, notions of religion and religious freedom are fundamental to how many Americans have understood their country and themselves. Ideas of religion, politics, and the interplay between them are no less crucial to how the United States has engaged with the world beyond its borders. Yet scholarship on American religion tends to bracket the domestic and foreign, despite the fact that assumptions about the differences between ourselves and others deeply shape American religious categories and identities. At Home and Abroad bridges the divide in the study of American religion, law, and politics between domestic and international, bringing together diverse and distinguished authors from religious studies, law, American studies, sociology, history, and political science to explore interrelations across conceptual and political boundaries. They bring into sharp focus the ideas, people, and institutions that provide links between domestic and foreign religious politics and policies. Contributors break down the categories of domestic and foreign and inquire into how these taxonomies are related to other axes of discrimination, asking questions such as: What and who counts as “home” or “abroad,” how and by whom are these determinations made, and with what consequences? Offering a new approach to theorizing the politics of religion in the context of the American nation-state, At Home and Abroad also interrogates American religious exceptionalism and illuminates imperial dynamics beyond the United States.

Mana?O?I?O, Paulele (Faith) Journeys by James Sadler Pdf

The images that surround us give meaning to life. I have been most fortunate to have spent my life surrounded by the worlds most beautiful imageshiking the trails of ancient and modern Hawaii in my youth, a sunlit summer in Rome, and further tours, most recently culminating on a wet British Roman wall. The stories I include here are not linked together in any particular way. They include moments in the lives of my mother and me that span the Third Reich and Republic of Germany and Hawaii, whose legends, wonders, and disappointments have deeply influenced me. My stories are centered on one principal event in my life, the participation in the Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, simply a Jesuit spiritual program commonly called Ignatian Spirituality, which has altered my life for the better. I never once explained the program. The quotes I include from St. Ignatius of Loyola and few of his most famous devotees are intended as merely a framework. I firmly believe St. Ignatius of Loyola would have it no other way. I am a Catholic man. I am a gay man. My faith life was first formed by Missouri Synod Lutheranism; the scars have given me the needed push to try a different, more faithful, and kinder faith. I did not initially go willingly. These are my stories. They may bring a smile, and they may bring anger. I hope and pray they bring hope in others to try Ignatian spirituality for oneself.

Move to Greatness by Ginny Whitelaw Pdf

Your guide to the patterns of personality As a senior manager at NASA, Dr. Ginny Whitelaw had access to excellent leadership training. But like most leadership training, it taught leaders from the neck up, not deeply enough to develop the whole and balanced leaders so needed in today's complex organizations. She knew there had to be a deeper, more integrated way of developing effective leaders. There is! Move to Greatness reveals that to lead and live wholly, basic energy patterns must be brought into balance. Out of kilter, these four patterns create the ineffective "buts" in leadership style ("great at making numbers, but hell on staff") and personal performance ("successful at work, but has no life"). Success and failure originate in our use (or misuse) of four fundamental patterns in the nervous system that have been studied over decades: * The Driver pushes into every barrier with speed, directness and intensity and puts a focus on priorities, actions and the bottom line. * The Organizer does the right thing with discipline and order and establishes processes, clarifies roles and assigns responsibility. * The Collaborator swings into playful engagement with life and the people in it, and as a leader, the Collaborator is oriented to customers, employees, loyalty and fun. * The Visionary goes with the flow, hangs out in the chaos, and leaps to new possibilities; the Visionary leader thinks outside the box and creates the future. Using these patterns as a map, you will understand people more easily and more deeply, and see how to lead them more effectively. Moreover, you'll learn how to move yourself to your highest potential. Discover your natural preferences and learn how to literally move yourself-and others-to greatness.

Mango Lady & Other Stories from Hawaii by Ted Gugelyk Pdf

Mango Lady & Other Stories from Hawaii takes the reader on a journey not unlike a long ride across the face of a giant wave, full of unexpected turns and surprises, weaving together memories, fantasies, and personalities that stretch from long ago Hawaii to modern day Vietnam. Through all of them is the connecting spirit of the Islands, its special mana, its people, its surf, bringing times past into the present in a special, intimate way. There is Mango Lady, who lived in Waikiki since childhood, watching her ancient preoccupations become irrelevant in the new bustle of development. There is The Man to Whom Surf Cam, the tale of a magical Urban who never failed to attract surf. There is A November Surfer, an adventure of a senior surfer at remote Rabbit Island. There is Hard Port, an intriguing pulling together of Hawaii and Russia, when a longtime surfer visits Nakhodka in the Russian Far East, the land of his ancestors. Finally, there is the flamboyant and unsettling Captain Aloha, a tale of two old surfing friends from Hawaii and the horrors of the war in Vietnam, a unique portrait of psychology and culture, of friendship and passing time."

Hawaiian Wedding by J.M. Snyder Pdf

City planner Remy McIntosh and architect Lane Anders are back from the best-selling novel, Just the Three of Us, to plan their Christmas wedding! When Remy married Kate, he’d only done so because it was the right thing to do, as she was pregnant with Braden. This time around, he’s marrying for love, and he wants everything to be just right. At the time of their engagement, Virginia didn’t allow same-sex couples to marry, so Lane suggests they splurge and plan the perfect wedding in Hawaii. Because the island is so far away, Remy hires someone local to plan everything for them. He hates giving up so much control, but the wedding planner is someone Lane knew in high school, so she can’t be all bad, can she? Unfortunately, things go wrong right from the start. Remy hopes to spend a week alone at Christmas with his lover in Hawaii before their families arrive for the wedding. But his son is erroneously booked on the same flight as Remy and Lane, and they have to spend their romantic tropical holiday entertaining a nine year old boy. Then the wedding planner disappears for the weekend to participate in a surfing competition. When Remy decides to obtain a marriage license on his own, he discovers he needs proof of his divorce, which he doesn’t have with him, and Kate’s stuck in Virginia in a freak snowstorm that may ground her plane until after the wedding is scheduled to take place. As things continue to spiral out of his control, Remy doesn’t know whether to laugh at his troubles or cry with frustration. Will he and Lane get to say “I do” on an Hawaiian island beach? Or should they just throw in the towel and elope back in the courthouse in Virginia?
