Not Perfectly Divided by Fred Easter Pdf

If there is a central theme to NOT PERFECTLY DIVIDED it may very well be the sentiment, "If everyone lit just one little candle, what a bright world this would be." Fred Easter uses this book to be his candle, telling with great detail and emotion what he has witnessed in his sixty plus years as an African American in this country. If you think you know about the plight of our fellow Americans, you will want to read NOT PERFECTLY DIVIDED and see just how right, or wrong!, you actually are!"NOT PERFECTLY DIVIDED opened my eyes to the predicament faced by so many of my fellow Americans in a way nothing else ever has. Born and raised in rural upstate New York, I knew little of what was happening to the families in the inner cities, and had an askew view of what I did know! I would suggest that everyone read this book, if for no other reason than to experience the enlightenment its pages contain. I found it so well done that, at my insistence, Fred will be submitting it for PULITZER PRIZE consideration." Floyd Allen - Editor MORGAN WYNN PUBLISHING - Phoenix, AZ

Divided by Linda Frank Pdf

"From fireflies to the use of feathers to adorn hats, Linda Frank looks deeply into humanity's interactions with the animal world, considering both our fascination with and fear of it, and our exploitation of all species. These poems investigate the fearsomeness of nature, cataloguing its shimmering beauty in crisp lines before showing the uncompromising endings. Nabokov's butterflies live on beside flea circuses while the habits of the jewel wasp are detailed along with the end of tadpoles captured by a child. This is a collection written with a botanist's eye and a scientist's attention to cause and effect, both a lament and paean to a world that is vanishing."--

We Are Not Yet Equal by Carol Anderson,Tonya Bolden Pdf

This young adult adaptation of the New York Times bestselling White Rage is essential antiracist reading for teens. An NAACP Image Award finalist A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year A NYPL Best Book for Teens History texts often teach that the United States has made a straight line of progress toward Black equality. The reality is more complex: milestones like the end of slavery, school integration, and equal voting rights have all been met with racist legal and political maneuverings meant to limit that progress. We Are Not Yet Equal examines five of these moments: The end of the Civil War and Reconstruction was greeted with Jim Crow laws; the promise of new opportunities in the North during the Great Migration was limited when blacks were physically blocked from moving away from the South; the Supreme Court's landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision was met with the shutting down of public schools throughout the South; the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 led to laws that disenfranchised millions of African American voters and a War on Drugs that disproportionally targeted blacks; and the election of President Obama led to an outburst of violence including the death of Black teen Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri as well as the election of Donald Trump. Including photographs and archival imagery and extra context, backmatter, and resources specifically for teens, this book provides essential history to help work for an equal future.

The Divide by Jason Hickel Pdf

________________ As seen on Sky News All Out Politics ‘There’s no understanding global inequality without understanding its history. In The Divide, Jason Hickel brilliantly lays it out, layer upon layer, until you are left reeling with the outrage of it all.’ - Kate Raworth, author of Doughnut Economics · The richest eight people control more wealth than the poorest half of the world combined. · Today, 60 per cent of the world’s population lives on less than $5 a day. · Though global real GDP has nearly tripled since 1980, 1.1 billion more people are now living in poverty. For decades we have been told a story: that development is working, that poverty is a natural phenomenon and will be eradicated through aid by 2030. But just because it is a comforting tale doesn’t make it true. Poor countries are poor because they are integrated into the global economic system on unequal terms, and aid only helps to hide this. Drawing on pioneering research and years of first-hand experience, The Divide tracks the evolution of global inequality – from the expeditions of Christopher Columbus to the present day – offering revelatory answers to some of humanity’s greatest problems. It is a provocative, urgent and ultimately uplifting account of how the world works, and how it can change for the better.

John Birchensha: Writings on Music by Benjamin Wardhaugh Pdf

John Birchensha (c.1605-?1681) is chiefly remembered for the impression that his theories about music made on the mathematicians, natural philosophers and virtuosi of the Royal Society in the 1660s and 1670s, and for inventing a system that he claimed would enable even those without practical experience of music to learn to compose in a short time by means of 'a few easy, certain, and perfect Rules'-his most famous composition pupil being Samuel Pepys in 1662. His great aim was to publish a treatise on music in its philosophical, mathematical and practical aspects (which would have included a definitive summary of his rules of composition), entitled Syntagma music Subscriptions for this book were invited in 1672-3, and it was due to be published by March 1675; but it never appeared, and no final manuscript of it survives. Consequently knowledge about his work has hitherto remained extremely sketchy. Recent research, however, has brought to light a number of manuscripts which allow us at last to form a more complete view of Birchensha's ideas. Almost none of this material has been previously published. The new items include an autograph treatise of c.1664 ('A Compendious Discourse of the Principles of the Practicall & Mathematicall Partes of Musick') which Birchensha presented to the natural philosopher Robert Boyle, and which covers concisely much of the ground that he intended to cover in Syntagma musica detailed synopsis for Syntagma musichich he prepared for a meeting of the Royal Society in February 1676; and an autograph notebook (now in Brussels) containing his six rules of composition with music examples, presumably written for a pupil. Bringing all this material together in a single volume will allow scholars to see how Birchensha's rules and theories developed over a period of fifteen years, and to gain at least a flavour of the lost Syntagma music

Our Only Hope by Margaret B. Adam Pdf

The most popular source of theological hope for American Christians is that of Jurgen Moltmann. Preachers, teachers, and lay people reflect Moltmann's influence, with their hope in a this-worldly eschatology and a suffering God. However, an exclusive reliance on that hope deprives the church of crucial resources in the face of global economic, environmental, and military crises. This book explores Moltmannian hope and considers its costs before looking elsewhere for additional contributions, from Thomas Aquinas's theological virtue of hope to nihilism and beyond, in order to encourage the church to sustain and practice hope in Jesus Christ, our only hope.
