Introduction to Numerical Computations by James S. Vandergraft Pdf

Computer Science and Applied Mathematics: Introduction to Numerical Computations, Second Edition introduces numerical algorithms as they are used in practice. This edition covers the usual topics contained in introductory numerical analysis textbooks that include all of the well-known and most frequently used algorithms for interpolation and approximation, numerical differentiation and integration, solution of linear systems and nonlinear equations, and solving ordinary differential equations. A complete discussion of computer arithmetic, problems that arise in the computer evaluation of functions, and cubic spline interpolation are also provided. This text likewise discusses the Newton formulas for interpolation and adaptive methods for integration. The level of this book is suitable for advanced undergraduate students and readers with elementary mathematical background.

Minimax Models in the Theory of Numerical Methods by A. Sukharev Pdf

In the Russian edition published in 1989, this book was called "Minimax Algorithms in Problems of Numerical Analysis". The new title is better related to the subject of the book and its style. The basis for every decision or inference concerning the ways to solve a given problem is the computa tion model. Thus, the computation model is the epicenter of any structure studied in the book. Algorithms are not constructed here, they are rather derived from computation models. Quality of an algorithm depends entirely on consistency of the model with the real-life problem. So, constructing a model is an art, deriving an algorithm is a science. We study only minimax or, in other words, worst-case computation models. However, one of the characteristic features of the book is a new approach to the notion of the worst-case conditions in dynamic processes. This approach leads to the concept of sequentially optimal algorithms, which play the central role in the book. In conclusion, I would like to express my gratitude to Prof. Dr. Heinz J. Skala and Dr. Sergei A. Orlovsky for encouraging translation of this book. I also greatly appreciate the highly professional job of Dr. Olga R. Chuyan who translated the book.

Control Perspectives on Numerical Algorithms and Matrix Problems by Amit Bhaya,Eugenius Kaszkurewicz Pdf

Control Perspectives on Numerical Algorithms and Matrix Problems organizes the analysis and design of iterative numerical methods from a control perspective. The authors discuss a variety of applications, including iterative methods for linear and nonlinear systems of equations, neural networks for linear and quadratic programming problems, support vector machines, integration and shooting methods for ordinary differential equations, matrix preconditioning, matrix stability, and polynomial zero finding. This book opens up a new field of interdisciplinary research that should lead to insights in the areas of both control and numerical analysis and shows that a wide range of applications can be approached from, and benefit from, a control perspective.

Fundamentals of Numerical Computation by Tobin A. Driscoll,Richard J. Braun Pdf

Fundamentals of Numerical Computation?is an advanced undergraduate-level introduction to the mathematics and use of algorithms for the fundamental problems of numerical computation: linear algebra, finding roots, approximating data and functions, and solving differential equations. The book is organized with simpler methods in the first half and more advanced methods in the second half, allowing use for either a single course or a sequence of two courses. The authors take readers from basic to advanced methods, illustrating them with over 200 self-contained MATLAB functions and examples designed for those with no prior MATLAB experience. Although the text provides many examples, exercises, and illustrations, the aim of the authors is not to provide a cookbook per se, but rather an exploration of the principles of cooking. The authors have developed an online resource that includes well-tested materials related to every chapter. Among these materials are lecture-related slides and videos, ideas for student projects, laboratory exercises, computational examples and scripts, and all the functions presented in the book. The book is intended for advanced undergraduates in math, applied math, engineering, or science disciplines, as well as for researchers and professionals looking for an introduction to a subject they missed or overlooked in their education.?

Numerical Algorithms for Number Theory: Using Pari/GP by Karim Belabas,Henri Cohen Pdf

This book presents multiprecision algorithms used in number theory and elsewhere, such as extrapolation, numerical integration, numerical summation (including multiple zeta values and the Riemann-Siegel formula), evaluation and speed of convergence of continued fractions, Euler products and Euler sums, inverse Mellin transforms, and complex L L-functions. For each task, many algorithms are presented, such as Gaussian and doubly-exponential integration, Euler-MacLaurin, Abel-Plana, Lagrange, and Monien summation. Each algorithm is given in detail, together with a complete implementation in the free Pari/GP system. These implementations serve both to make even more precise the inner workings of the algorithms, and to gently introduce advanced features of the Pari/GP language. This book will be appreciated by anyone interested in number theory, specifically in practical implementations, computer experiments and numerical algorithms that can be scaled to produce thousands of digits of accuracy.

Accuracy and Stability of Numerical Algorithms by Nicholas J. Higham Pdf

Accuracy and Stability of Numerical Algorithms gives a thorough, up-to-date treatment of the behavior of numerical algorithms in finite precision arithmetic. It combines algorithmic derivations, perturbation theory, and rounding error analysis, all enlivened by historical perspective and informative quotations. This second edition expands and updates the coverage of the first edition (1996) and includes numerous improvements to the original material. Two new chapters treat symmetric indefinite systems and skew-symmetric systems, and nonlinear systems and Newton's method. Twelve new sections include coverage of additional error bounds for Gaussian elimination, rank revealing LU factorizations, weighted and constrained least squares problems, and the fused multiply-add operation found on some modern computer architectures.

Symbolic and Numerical Computation for Artificial Intelligence by Bruce R. Donald,Deepak Kapur,Joseph L. Mundy Pdf

Over the last decade, there has been considerable progress in investigating methods of symbolic mathematics in many application areas of computer science and artifical intelligence, such as engineering design, solid and geometric modelling, robotics and motion planning, and machine vision. This research has produced few applications within engineering and robotics because of the combinatorial cost of symbolic techniques. Therefore, it is essential to investigate approaches for systematic integration of symbolic with numerical techniques which are efficient for handling the huge amount of data that arises in practical applications, while at the same time maintain a logically consistent solution framework. Symbolic and Numerical Computation for Artificial Intelligence gives an overview of applications in machine vision, robotics and engineering design where there is a need for integrating symbolic and numerical methods. It also illustrates the case for an integrated symbolic and numerical environment to support the needs of these applications. This book will be essential reading for researchers in applied mathematics, symbolic and algebraic manipulation, and applied artificial intell
