One Voice by Joan Melton,Kenneth Tom Pdf

Speak. Laugh. Cry. Shout. Scream. Sing. Whether you're an actor or a singer, your voice is called upon to do many things. But how do you keep your voice healthy while satisfying these demands? Theatre voice specialist Joan Melton is uniquely qualified to show how. She maintains that the training of singers and actors should be similar. Her groundbreaking book outlines a course of study that integrates basic elements of singing technique into the whole range of theatre voice training. The physicality of Melton's approach addresses all the issues of concern for professional voice users in any field. Melton's detailed work on phrasing demonstrates the technical similarities between text that is sung and text that is spoken. She supports her suggestions for relating and integrating voice and movement, too-for those in musical theatre who must sing, speak, and dance-with exercises that fully engage the performer physically and vocally. Kenneth Tom contributes a chapter on vocal anatomy, offering clear and accessible material on how the voice works along with practical advice on its care.

One Voice by Joan Melton,Kenneth Tom Pdf

Too often performers are conditioned to think they have a “speaking voice” and a “singing voice.” Yet in fact, the voice we use to speak, laugh, cry, yawn, scream, and call out is the same voice we use to sing! Joan Melton brings together the contrasting worlds of singing and acting training in an approach that is physically energizing, vocally freeing, and infinitely practical. Kenneth Tom contributes a chapter on vocal anatomy and physiology, offering clear and accessible material on how the voice works, along with practical advice on its care. This groundbreaking book outlines a course of study that effectively integrates techniques from theatre and music across a range of performance trainings. The physicality of Melton’s approach addresses the concerns of professional voice users in any field, and her detailed work on phrasing and the use of language applies equally to speaking and singing.

Speaking With One Voice by Chantal Benoit-Barné,Thomas Martine Pdf

This book explores the dynamics and challenges that underlie the ability of organizations to speak with one voice. Contributions by experienced and emerging scholars shed light on the nature and regulation of the communication processes whereby the many and diverse voices of a collective can unite, act, and speak as a distinct entity, thus contributing to its organizing. By focusing on communicational events, whether in the context of for-profit and non-profit organizations, political protests or social movements, chapters guide the reader through the diverse manifestations and concrete ways of dealing with the imperative for organizations of all kinds to speak with one voice. In doing so, the book creates bridges between different perspectives with regard to the notion of voice and its significance for the study of organizing; between fields of study; and between theory and empirical research aimed at investigating organizing beyond the boundaries of the formal organization. Offering a thorough and comprehensive investigation of the dynamics between multivocality and univocality in the organizing of various collectives, this book will be an important resource for scholars and students of organizational communication, management studies, media studies and rhetorical studies.

One Voice and Many by Beth Ellen Roberts Pdf

Different conceptions of the relationships between unity and multiplicity may be presented by varying the three distances inherent in dialogue poetry, each of which represents a degree of differentiation: the distance between the speakers, the distance between the poet and the speakers, and the distance between the speakers and the reader."

"With One Heart and One Voice" by Fred Kimball Graham Pdf

The publication by John Wesley of the "Foundery" Collection (1742) marked the establishment of standards for tunes suited to Methodist hymn singing. Early Methodist hymn books in the United States contained words only, but they were cross-referenced with a leader's tune book, beginning with David's Companion (1808). "With One Heart and One Voice" reviews the trends surrounding the styles of tunes selected and analyzes the changes in shape and text for the most frequently used tunes in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Seventy six "core repertory" tunes are analyzed based upon their repeated appearances in most of the tune books published between 1808 and 1878, at which point Methodists finally obtained a hymnal with both words and music, after a half century of experimentation with tune selection. The conclusions reached in this work will allow scholars, hymnologists, and hymn singers to explore the social and musicological influences on hymn tune writing, how long it took for texts to acquire a "fixed tune," how tastes in hymn tunes change ever so slowly, and how many delightful tunes found in the core repertory of the 19th century have been dropped from today's repertoire.

The One Voice of James Dickey by James Dickey Pdf

"In The One Voice of James Dickey, Gordon Van Ness skillfully documents James Dickey's growth from a callow teen interested primarily in sports to a mature poet who possessed literary genius and who deliberately advanced himself and his career. The letters from 1942 through 1969 depict Dickey gradually establishing a self-identity, deciding to write, struggling to determine a subject matter and style, working determinedly to gain initial recognition, and eventually seeking out the literary establishment to promote himself and his views on poetry. The letters also portray a complex personality with broad interests, acute intelligence, and heightened imagination as well as a deep need to re-create his past and assume various roles in the present." "From Dickey's extensive correspondence, Van Ness has selected not only those letters that best reveal the chronological development of Dickey's career and his conscious efforts to chart its course, but also those that portray his other interests and depict the various features of his personality. The letters are grouped by decade, with each period placed in perspective by a critical introduction. The introductory sections offer a psychological understanding of Dickey's personality by identifying the needs and fears that affected his actions. They also explain the American literary and cultural scene that Dickey confronted as he matured. Together, the letters and commentary yield a sense of Dickey's complex personality - both the man as a writer and the writer as a man - while arguing that he remained "one voice."" "Because how a writer writes - the appearance of a writer's words on a page - makes a statement, the letters are reproduced here without alterations. There are no silent deletions or revisions; the original spelling and punctuation have been preserved. Dickey's letters gathered in The One Voice of James Dickey portray a poet's consciousness, chronicling its growth and revealing its breadth. They do not contain the whole truth, but they are what we have."--Jacket.
