Organizational Data Mining by Hamid R. Nemati,Christopher D. Barko Pdf

Mountains of business data are piling up in organizations every day. These organizations collect data from multiple sources, both internal and external. These sources include legacy systems, customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning applications, online and e-commerce systems, government organizations and business suppliers and partners. A recent study from the University of California at Berkeley found the amount of data organizations collect and store in enterprise databases doubles every year, and slightly more than half of this data will consist of "reference information," which is the kind of information strategic business applications and decision support systems demand (Kestelyn, 2002). Terabyte-sized (1,000 megabytes) databases are commonplace in organizations today, and this enormous growth will make petabyte-sized databases (1,000 terabytes) a reality within the next few years (Whiting, 2002). By 2004 the Gartner Group estimates worldwide data volumes will be 30 times those of 1999, which translates into more data having been produced in the last 30 years than during the previous 5,000 (Wurman, 1989).

Managing Data Mining Technologies in Organizations by Parag C. Pendharkar Pdf

Portals present unique strategic challenges in the academic environment. Their conceptualization and design requires the input of campus constituents who seldom interact and whose interests are often opposite. The implementation of a portal requires a coordination of applications and databases controlled by different campus units at a level that may never before have been attempted at the institution. Building a portal is as much about constructing intra-campus bridges as it is about user interfaces and content. Designing Portals: Opportunities and Challenges discusses the current status of portals in higher education by providing insight into the role portals play in an institution's business and educational strategy, by taking the reader through the processes of conceptualization, design, and implementation of the portals (in different stages of development) at major universities and by offering insight from three producers of portal software systems in use at institutions of higher learning and elsewhere.

Innovations in Big Data Mining and Embedded Knowledge by Anna Esposito,Antonietta M. Esposito,Lakhmi C. Jain Pdf

This book addresses the usefulness of knowledge discovery through data mining. With this aim, contributors from different fields propose concrete problems and applications showing how data mining and discovering embedded knowledge from raw data can be beneficial to social organizations, domestic spheres, and ICT markets. Data mining or knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) has received increasing interest due to its focus on transforming large amounts of data into novel, valid, useful, and structured knowledge by detecting concealed patterns and relationships. The concept of knowledge is broad and speculative and has promoted epistemological debates in western philosophies. The intensified interest in knowledge management and data mining stems from the difficulty in identifying computational models able to approximate human behaviors and abilities in resolving organizational, social, and physical problems. Current ICT interfaces are not yet adequately advanced to support and simulate the abilities of physicians, teachers, assistants or housekeepers in domestic spheres. And unlike in industrial contexts where abilities are routinely applied, the domestic world is continuously changing and unpredictable. There are challenging questions in this field: Can knowledge locked in conventions, rules of conduct, common sense, ethics, emotions, laws, cultures, and experiences be mined from data? Is it acceptable for automatic systems displaying emotional behaviors to govern complex interactions based solely on the mining of large volumes of data? Discussing multidisciplinary themes, the book proposes computational models able to approximate, to a certain degree, human behaviors and abilities in resolving organizational, social, and physical problems. The innovations presented are of primary importance for: a. The academic research community b. The ICT market c. Ph.D. students and early stage researchers d. Schools, hospitals, rehabilitation and assisted-living centers e. Representatives from multimedia industries and standardization bodies

The goal of this book is to present a modeling framework for the Virtual Organization that is focused on process composition. This framework uses Predicate Calculus Knowledge Bases. Petri Net-based modeling is also discussed. In this context, a Data Mining model is proposed, using a fuzzy mathematical approach, aiming to discover knowledge. A Knowledge-Based framework has been proposed in order to present an all-inclusive knowledge store for static and dynamic properties. Toward this direction, a Knowledge Base is created, and inferences are arrived at. This book features an advisory tool for Mergers and Acquisitions of Organizations using the Fuzzy Data Mining Framework and highlights the novelty of a Knowledge-Based Service-Oriented Architecture approach and development of an Enterprise Architectural model using AI that serves a wide audience. Students of Strategic Management in business schools and postgraduate programs in technology institutes seeking application areas of AI and Data Mining, as well as business/technology professionals in organizations aiming to create value through Mergers and Acquisitions and elsewhere, will benefit from the reading of this book.
