Europe in the Nineteenth Century by Ephraim Lipson Pdf

Excerpt from Europe in the Nineteenth Century: An Outline History 1815 ultimate downfall. Napoleon III. Was more fortunate in rallying French sentiment for a time to his throne, but his very success involved the alienation of Europe, whose I) apprehensions were awakened by his efforts to revive the glories of the First Empire and in the end he, too, shared the fate of his predecessors. The record of these three successive attempts constitutes the history of France from 1815 to 1870; they furnish the thread which gives unity and coherence to the period. An Outline Sketch of the Political History of Europe in the Nineteenth Century (Classic Reprint) by F. J. C. Hearnshaw Pdf

Excerpt from An Outline Sketch of the Political History of Europe in the Nineteenth Century Two years ago the present writer published a book (now in its fourth impression) entitled Main Currents of European History, 1815 - 1915. It consisted of the substance of ten lectures delivered to teachers in the County of London. The very kind reception accorded both to the lectures and to the book by the teachers for whom they were intended has given rise to a demand for a pupils' book covering the same ground. The small volume now issued has been prepared in response to that demand. It is hoped that it may assist in making the leading lines of nineteenth century history known in the upper classes of schools, in training colleges, in the circles of the Workers' Educational Association and the Home Reading Union, in Institutes, in Army Classes - everywhere, in short, where people of mature intelligence gather for the study of subjects essential to the fulfilment of the functions of citizenship. Nineteenth-century European history is not a topic of education suitable for young children; it is at once too complex, too controversial, and too incompletely determined. The present volume, which is an abridgement of an abridgement, assumes the possession of that knowledge of British, Colonial, and Foreign history which is usual in the case of intelligent students who have attended school at least up to the age of fourteen. Outlines of European History (Classic Reprint) by A. J. Grant Pdf

Excerpt from Outlines of European History The study of European History as a whole has long been known in the schools of the Continent and the United States of America; but it has only lately been introduced into England. It must be-still considered as in the experimental stage so far as methods are concerned, though few will doubt that the subject in-some form or other must ultimately be recognized as forming an important part in any scheme of education. It is true of history, though not perhaps of all studies, that the whole is greater and better than its parts. The greatest prize that awaits the student of history is not a knowledge of antiquarian detail, but the wide outlook over all the ages, and an understanding of the chief phases through which civilization has passed and of the chief influences that have moulded it. Europe in the Nineteenth Century (Classic Reprint) by Harry Pratt Judson Pdf

Excerpt from Europe in the Nineteenth Century Besides these practical motives, there are various sentimental considerations which powerfully influence political action. The ties of blood are strong. Race jealousies are keen. And no efforts of masses of men are more energetic than those directed toward throwing off a foreign yoke. When interest and sentiment combine to the same end, then we have just the conditions for the most violent and far-reaching political convulsions. And the present century is filled with such movements. The political life of Europe in the last hundred years has been controlled by two formative ideas - democracy, nationality. An Outline of Recent European History, 1815-1916 by Clarence Perkins Pdf

Excerpt from An Outline of Recent European History, 1815-1916 This outline with the accompanying references is a revision and enlargement of previous editions of "An Outline of Recent European History" prepared in 1916 and 1918 for the use of students at the Ohio State University. Like its predecessors it contains much fuller references to the period since 1870 than the earlier years. Hazen, Europe Since 1815, Schapiro, Modern and Contemporary European History, and the second volume of Hayes, Political and Social History of Modern Europe have been followed in preparing the outline; and references to all these excellent books have been appended to most of the topics. Students should read one or more of these and at least one of the "Additional References" under each special topic. The purpose of the outline is not to provide a brief summary of the facts, predigested mental pabulum, as it were; but to provide a scheme of organization, to suggest to the student what he is to look for as he reads, and to teach him to distinguish between essentials and non-essentials. Hence the facts are not usually stated, but the student is left to work them out from his reference readings. Though the outline and references have been prepared primarily for use in the writer's own classes, it is hoped that they may be useful to other instructors who are using the admirable books on which the outline is based.
