Assurance Technologies Principles and Practices by Dev G. Raheja,Michael Allocco Pdf
The Second Edition features new content, examples, methods, techniques, and best practices Assurance Technologies Principles and Practices is based on the assertion that safety is not a cost, but an excellent investment. According to the authors, more than sixty percent of problems in complex systems arise from incomplete, vague, and poorly written specifications. In keeping with the authors' passion for safety, the text is dedicated to uniting the gamut of disciplines that are essential for effective design applying assurance technology principles, including system safety, reliability, maintainability, human engineering, quality, logistics, software integrity, and system integration. Readers familiar with the first edition of this text will recognize all the hallmarks that have made it a classic in its field. The Second Edition features a host of new examples, methods, techniques, and best practices to bring the text fully up to date with the state of the art in assurance technology. Much new content has been added as well, including four new chapters: Managing Safety-Related Risks Statistical Concepts, Loss Analysis, and Safety-Related Applications Models, Concepts, and Examples: Applying Scenario-Driven Hazard Analysis Automation, Computer, and Software Complexities The text begins with an introduction and overview of assurance technology. Next, readers are provided with fundamental statistical concepts. The chapters that follow explore in depth the approaches and disciplines that make up assurance technology applications. Each chapter is organized into major phases-design, manufacturing, test, and use phase-that help readers understand both how and when to apply particular measures. Throughout the text, readers discover detailed examples that prepare them to manage real-world challenges. References and further reading are provided at the end of each chapter leading to more in-depth discussion on specialized topics. With its extensive use of examples and highly structured approach, this is an excellent course book for students in industrial engineering, systems engineering, risk engineering, and other assurance technology domains. Design and system engineers as well as safety professionals will find the material essential in troubleshooting complex projects and ensuring product, process, and system safety.

Reliability Engineering for Nuclear and Other High Technology Systems (1985) by A.A. Lakner,R.T. Anderson Pdf
First Published in 2017. This book presents a much needed practical methodology for the establishment of cost-effective reliability programs in nuclear or other high technology industries. Thanks to the high competence and practical experience of the authors in the field of reliability, it vividly illustrates the applicability of proven, cost-effective reliability techniques applied in the American space and military programs as hybridized with the avant-garde approach used by nuclear authorities, utilities and researchers in the United Kingdom and France. This emerged method will support a diligent effort in the enhancement of nuclear safety and protection of the health of the general public. The methodology developed in this book exemplifies the total integrated reliability program approach in the design, procurement, manufacturing, test, installation and operational phases of an equipment life cycle. It is based on lessons learned in space and military programs with certain methodological modifications to enhance practicality. The techniques described here are applicable to college instruction, plant upper and middle management personnel, as well as to regulating agencies with equal benefits; it provides a very pragmatic and cost-efficient approach to the reliability engineering discipline

Performance Evaluation of Computer and Communication Systems by Lorenzo Donatiello,Randolph Nelson Pdf
This volume contains the complete set of tutorial papers presented at the 16th IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Working Group 7.3 International Symposium on Computer Performance Modelling, Measurement and Evaluation, and a number of tutorial papers presented at the 1993 ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Special Interest Group METRICS Conference on Measurement and Modeling of Computer Systems. The principal goal of the volume is to present an overview of recent results in the field of modeling and performance evaluation of computer and communication systems. The wide diversity of applications and methodologies included in the tutorials attests to the breadth and richness of current research in the area of performance modeling. The tutorials may serve to introduce a reader to an unfamiliar research area, to unify material already known, or simply to illustrate the diversity of research in the field. The extensive bibliographies guide readers to additional sources for further reading.
High Performance Transaction Systems by Dieter Gawlick,Mark Haynie Pdf
This Lecture Notes volume is based on the "International Workshop on High Performance Transaction Systems" held in the Asilomar Conference Center, September 28-30, 1987. Many of the problems identified during the workshop are liable to determine the future development of transaction systems and distributed high performance systems in general for many years to come. So the organizers of HPTS '87 felt encouraged to collect the papers presented at the workshop in order to make them accessible to a wider audience of interested developers and researchers. Since some of the contributions represented work in progress, the authors agreed to prepare revised and updated versions of their papers for this publication. This accounts for the long delay between the event itself and the publication, but on the other hand it provides the reader with a state-of-the-art account of transaction processing topics. The book is organized according to the major sections of the workshop. In the network section the reader finds an analysis of two of the major "paradigms" in networking, ISO/OSI and SNA, from the perspective of transaction processing. In the next section four different transaction processing and database systems are described: Model 204 - a database management system marketed by Computer Corporation of America, Tandem's NonStop SQL, Citicorp's transaction processing system and ALCS, which basically is a version of TPF running under MVS/XA. The section on architectural issues contains four very different contributions which are fairly representative of the type of problems in transaction systems investigated in the research community. Finally, performance evaluations and system comparisons are presented.
Applications of Neural Networks in High Assurance Systems by Johann M.Ph. Schumann,Yan Liu Pdf
"Applications of Neural Networks in High Assurance Systems" is the first book directly addressing a key part of neural network technology: methods used to pass the tough verification and validation (V&V) standards required in many safety-critical applications. The book presents what kinds of evaluation methods have been developed across many sectors, and how to pass the tests. A new adaptive structure of V&V is developed in this book, different from the simple six sigma methods usually used for large-scale systems and different from the theorem-based approach used for simplified component subsystems.
Evaluation of Conventional Electric Power Generating Industry Quality Assurance and Reliability Practices by Ronald T. Anderson,H. A. Lauffenburger Pdf
This report presents the results of a study of the quality assurance and reliability (QA & R) practices employed by the conventional electric power generating industry to provide a fram of reference for PV (photovoltaics) program QA & R activities. The power industry is, within the past several years, adopting many of the reliability/maintainability program elements originally applied in military and space programs. These efforts coupled with the more traditional quality assurance practices are resulting in substantial operating plant cost savings.
