The Good Pirates of the Forgotten Bayous by Ken Wells Pdf

How a plucky coterie of Louisiana shrimp-boat captains faced down the most destructive hurricane in U.S. history--only to realize that the struggle to preserve their centuries-old culture had just begun With a long and colorful family history of defying storms, the seafaring Robin cousins of St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, make a fateful decision to ride out Hurricane Katrina on their hand-built fishing boats in a sheltered Civil War-era harbor called Violet Canal. But when Violet is overrun by killer surges, the Robins must summon all their courage, seamanship, and cunning to save themselves and the scores of others suddenly cast into their care. In this gripping saga, Louisiana native Ken Wells provides a close-up look at the harrowing experiences in the backwaters of New Orleans during and after Katrina. Focusing on the plight of the intrepid Robin family, whose members trace their local roots to before the American Revolution, Wells recounts the landfall of the storm and the tumultuous seventy-two hours afterward, when the Robins' beloved bayou country lay catastrophically flooded and all but forgotten by outside authorities as the world focused its attention on New Orleans. Wells follows his characters for more than two years as they strive, amid mind-boggling wreckage and governmental fecklessness, to rebuild their shattered lives. This is a story about the deep longing for home and a proud bayou people's love of the fertile but imperiled low country that has nourished them.

Pirates in the Heartland by Patrick Rosenkranz,S. Clay Wilson Pdf

The is the definitive account of the boldest and most audacious of the legendary underground cartoonists: the taboo busting, eyeball blistering S. Clay Wilson. This first volume contains all of his underground comic stories from Zap Comix, Snatch, Gothic Blimp Works, Bogeyman, Felch, Insect Fear, Pork, Tales of Sex and Death, and Arcade magazine as well as the many adventures of the Checkered Demon, Star-Eyed Stella, and Captain Pissgums, and even his earliest collaborations with William Burroughs. Also: selections from his teenaged and college years, both in comics and painting form. First person accounts from his peers, as well as Wilson’s own words, offer a revealing portrait of the artist who hid his shyness behind brash behavior and bluster. This first of a three-volume biography and retrospective gets to the heart and soul of an artist who lived his dreams and his nightmares.

22 Pirates by Barry Roth Pdf

Members of the PRHS Class of 1959 are the fortunate recipients of something called friendship. For us, it all started when we entered school in Pearl River, New York and became Pearl River Pirates. The friendships that were formed became stronger as we moved from one grade to another, participated in school activities and celebrated the successes of our class and our classmates. Most certainly, our class is blessed in that those early friendships have remained with us for more than sixty years, seventy for some. Through the years, our class members have stayed in touch with our teachers; came to one anothers assistance when needed; stopped in to visit classmates when we have traveled; communicated via email, telephone, and text messages; held regular five-year reunions, now two-year reunions, cruises, and picnics; and attended monthly breakfast meetings, along with monthly luncheons and periodic pizza nights. We amaze other classes when we show our strength at award and recognition nights for our class members. This unity exists only because something special exists in our hearts. Memories of our class hijinks, activities, and successes have helped create a closeness that comes easily. We are always glad to see each other and greet each other with caring hugs and are quick to present a big smile and a kind word. This warm solidarity exists not only because we like each other, but also because of the fact that there is a small group of classmates who have worked hard to plan and carry out the reunions, events and the get-togethers that have kept us in constant touch with one another. It should be understood that our long-lasting, class-wide friendships did not just happen. We all worked at them. For us, friendship, performance and hard work are the hallmarks of our class. They make us proud.
