100 Years since the Great Union of Romania by Dan Dungaciu,Viorella Manolache Pdf

100 Years since the Great Union of Romania is a pertinent witness to the course of Romanian political thinking. It confirms that December 1918 demands to be celebrated as a fundamental historical event, which imparts a prominent force to the continuing dynamics of the preposition ‘since’, potentiating it not only with the structural valences of the initial moment and the starting point, but also giving it the meaning of the plenary symbols of a historical act which, after 100 years, celebrates its establishment by reaffirming and confirming its fully-mature vocation. This volume is dedicated to the 100 years since the Great Union of all Romanians. It will appeal to the wider academic community, PhD students, professors, and researchers, and to any reader interested in history, history of political thoughts, political philosophy and science or international relations.

The Geopolitical Black Sea Encyclopaedia by Dan Dungaciu Pdf

Today, we know what the Black Sea is not from a strategic perspective, but we do not know what it is. This strategic indecision is the explanation for all the conflicts, frozen or not, explicit or tacit, and all the political and geopolitical tensions that are now taking place in this space and that are becoming endemic. The story of the Black Sea continues… This text is the first encyclopaedia explicitly dedicated to the geopolitics of the Black Sea, written for Western audiences, an academic research which appeals to the wider academic community, PhD students, professors, and researchers, and to any reader interested in geopolitics, history, international relations, economy, sociology, history, and geography.

Stay Alive by Michael Harris Pdf

When The Hunger Games series began in 2008, many commentators lumped it in with other young adult genre fiction. But The Hunger Games was always more political. It’s since become the defining story for a generation that’s grown up with economic crisis and never ending war. An uber-rich ruling class gorge themselves in their gleaming high-tech Capitol, while working people are left behind to survive in exploited districts. Revolution is a forgotten hope kept at bay by brutal policing, aching poverty, and rigid class segregation. Suzanne Collins' dark vision has only become more relevant as The Hunger Games generation are thrown into an arena of increasingly brutal competition from which it seems like there is no escape, amid the climate crisis, global pandemics, rampant inequality, authoritarianism, media misinformation, and violence and cruelty as TV spectacle. It's no wonder the story continues to resonate. Stay Alive uses the story to shed light on our own age of extreme inequalities and climate collapse, in which elites use state power, compliant media, and violent spectacle to pacify their populations. The elite endgame is leading us towards our own version of Panem, an authoritarian state order we’ll call Capitolism. The world is catching fire. Elites have no intention of burning with us. And yet there is hope, which Michael Harris finds for his readers in revolution and radical solidarity, in the anti-authoritarian, empathetic, cooperative politics of a generation that has no choice but to rebel.

Thinking Through Film by Damian Cox,Michael Levine Pdf

THINKING THROUGH FILM Thinking Through Film provides the best introduction available to the diverse relationships between film and philosophy. Clearly written and persuasively argued, it will benefit students of both film and philosophy. Thomas E. Wartenberg, Mount Holyoke College, author of Thinking on Screen: Film as Philosophy Cox and Levine’s admirable Thinking Through Film picks up where Philosophy Goes to the Movies left off, arguing that films not only do philosophy but, in some cases, do it better than philosophers! The result is a rich and rewarding examination of films – from metaphysical thought experiments, personal identity puzzles, to reflections on the meaning of life – that shows, in bracing, no-nonsense fashion, how popular cinema can do serious philosophy. —Robert Sinnerbrink, Macquarie University Thinking Through Film: Doing Philosophy, Watching Movies examines a broad range of philosophical issues though film, as well as issues about the nature of film itself. Using film as a means of philosophizing, it combines the experience of viewing films with the exploration of fundamental philosophical issues. It offers readers the opportunity to learn about philosophy and film together in an engaging way, and raises philosophical questions about films and the experience of films. Film is an extremely valuable way of exploring and discussing topics in philosophy. Readers are introduced to a broad range of philosophical issues though film, as well as to issues about the nature of film itself – a blend missing in most recent books on philosophy and film. Cox and Levine bring a critical eye to philosophical-film discussions throughout.

Animal Liberation by Peter Singer Pdf

How should we treat non-human animals? In this immensely powerful and influential book (now with a new introduction by Sapiens author Yuval Noah Harari), the renowned moral philosopher Peter Singer addresses this simple question with trenchant, dispassionate reasoning. Accompanied by the disturbing evidence of factory farms and laboratories, his answers triggered the birth of the animal rights movement. 'An extraordinary book which has had extraordinary effects... Widely known as the bible of the animal liberation movement' Independent on Sunday In the decades since this landmark classic first appeared, some public attitudes to animals may have changed but our continued abuse of animals in factory farms and as tools for research shows that the underlying ideas Singer exposes as ethically indefensible are still dominating the way we treat animals. As Yuval Harari’s brilliantly argued introduction makes clear, this book is as relevant now as the day it was written.

Filmosophy by Daniel Frampton Pdf

'Filmosophy' is a manifesto for a radically philosophical way of understanding cinema. The book coalesces 20th century ideas of film as thought into a practical theory of 'film-thinking', arguing that film style conveys poetic ideas through a constant dramatic 'intent' about the characters, spaces, and events of film.

Lyrical Musings on Indic Culture by M.K.V. Narayan Pdf

With more and more youngsters of India adapting to English for their routine activities, many lyrical gems of Indian poets of yester-years in vernacular languages have become obscure or even lost to the new generations. The present book fills in this gap. It presents English version of some of the most popular songs of Sant Purandara Dasa, originally composed in Kannada. Besides explaining devotional and philosophical aspects of these songs, it also analyzes the views of Sant Purandara Dasa on societal mores and his criticism of the social evils of the 15th century India.

Welcome to the Rebellion by Michael Harris Pdf

What does it mean that our most popular modern myth is a radical left story about fighting corporate authoritarianism? From its roots in the 1960s new left, Star Wars still speaks to millions of people today. By design, the saga mirrors our own time and politics. A real empire of corporate domination has arisen within weakened and corrupted republics. Now it threatens our existence on a planetary scale. But the popularity of Star Wars also suggests that if we tell the right stories, we can welcome many more people to the rebellion and the fight for a better world...

Philosophical-Political Hecate-isms by Dan Dungaciu Pdf

This book introduces a new conceptual category to philosophical and political discourse, namely Hecate-isms, which can be applied to post–postmodernist theory. This concept is defined here as resulting from the philosophical and political mechanisms of the rule of three, and as representing a tri-phase construction of homo triplex, including elements such as prosperity–security–freedom and distance–power–security. The book will appeal to the wider academic community, to PhD students, professors, and researchers with an interest in political philosophy, political science, postmodern philosophy, and cultural studies.

FLEEING PERSECUTION by Henrique Zanin Pdf

In a world that still persecutes, marginalises and discriminates LGBTQI+ individuals, and where asylum seekers and refugees are denied rights and have their basic humanity violated, this publication intends to understand the asylum policies the German government develops specifically tailored to the needs of LGBTQI+ asylum seekers and refugees and whether the literature has addressed the implementation of such policies across the European continent. LGBTQI+ asylum is a rather new field of research. Among the European states, Germany has been more open to asylum than other states in the continent and has received the world's highest number of asylum seekers between 2010 and 2019, which justifies the interest in researching the asylum policies in place in that state beyond investigating the European scenario in general. The research combines theoretical and empirical analyses, as well as a systematic literature review in order to create a framework of protection and rights across the Europan continent. States in general still seem to lack social inclusion policies, as discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and xenophobia are generalised social issues that permeates many European states. This publication hopes such a summary of European good practices and literature suggestions is taken into consideration by states around the world in order to make sure they are addressing LGBTQI+ asylum in an appropriate manner that respects individuals' personal characteristics and humanity.

Eryxias by Plato Pdf

Eryxias by Plato is a spurious Socratic dialogue. It is set in the Stoa of Zeus Eleutherios, and features Socrates in conversation with Critias, Eryxias, and Erasistratus (nephew of Phaeax). The dialogue concerns the topic of wealth and virtue. The position of Eryxias that it is good to be materially prosperous is challenged when Critias argues that having money is not always a good thing. Socrates then shows that money has only a conventional value.
