Clinical Neurology by Peter Gates Pdf

This is a clinical neurology book for the student, non neurologist, and those that teach them. The book covers neuroanatomy, history taking and examination and then proceeds to discuss the clinical features of common problems as well as some of the more common rare, neurological disorders, in a way that will demystify a part of medicine that students find complex and difficult to understand. The book is accompanied by a DVD explaining concepts, demonstrating techniques of performing the neurological examination and demonstration of abnormal neurological signs. The first chapter is devoted to neuroanatomy from a clinical viewpoint. The concept of localising problems by likening the nervous system to a map grid with vertical meridians of longitude (the ascending sensory pathways and the descending motor pathway)and horizontal parallels of latitude (cortical signs, brainstem cranial nerves, nerve roots and peripheral nerves) of the nervous system is developed. Subsequent chapters take the reader through the neurological examination and the common neurological presentations from a symptom oriented approach. Chapter 4 contains a very simple method of understanding the brainstem, the "rule of 4". Chapter 6 discusses the approach after the history and examination are completed. The final chapter is an overview of how to approach information gathering and keeping up-to-date using the complex information streams available. widely illustrated with case studies and illustrations key points clinical questions clinical orientation with comprehensive references

Written in an easily understandable and entertaining expanded outline format, the book integrates basic neuroscience information, the art of neurological examination, and disease-based knowledge. Over 95 crystal-clear illustrations illuminate topography, anatomic relationships, and clinical concepts. The material in this book is field-tested, and evolved from a syllabus the authors developed over many years of teaching introductory neurology to medical students. With a logical approach to the nervous system, the book takes readers step-by-step from the basics of the cerebral hemispheres and Brodmann areas to complex details about brainstem stroke syndromes, basal ganglia pathways, and brachial/lumbosacral plexi. It also contains a neuropsychiatry section exploring the relationship of frontal lobes and psychiatric disorders, and includes a section on special applications covering coma, epilepsy, movement, vertigo, cord compression, and autonomics. Written by renowned neurological educators, this concise primer will serve students throughout medical school rotations, post-graduate residency training, and medical practice during the lifelong learning task of evaluating patients with neurological problems. Neurology in Our Midst by Dr. Amado M. San Luis Pdf

The author noted, after more than 35 years of teaching, that many medical, nursing and physical therapy students, as well as, generalists, feared or avoided neurology and neurological patients. Neurology in Our Midst is a form of interventional neurology book that addresses this problem. The writing style deviates from the usual medical books. The content simplifies and avoids obfuscation of the language of neurology. It emphasizes understanding of how the central nervous system (CNS) controls our daily activities and if injured or afflicted by diseases, how they manifest. Bedside examinations, to unmask the aberrant functions, are detailed and the abnormalities are explained for the purpose of localization. CNS anatomic structures are dissected into chapters and paired with clinical examples and neuroanatomic correlations. The “Waterloo” of neurology is the understanding and evaluation of unconscious patients, so, the book addressed this difficulty. The cerebrospinal fluid circulation and cerebrovascular neuroanatomy are discussed and correlated with hydrocephalus and stroke. Neuroanatomy and clinical neurology lectures will be more interesting and meaningful if one reads the entire book before attending them.
