A Pride of Eagles by Beryl Salt Pdf

This is the story of military aviation in Rhodesia from the romantic days of 'bush' flying in the 1920s and '30s-when aircraft were refueled from jerrycans and landing grounds were often the local golf course-to the disbandment of the Rhodesian Air Force (RhAF) on Zimbabwean independence in 1980. In 1939 the tiny Royal Rhodesian Air Force (RRAF) became the first to take up battle stations even before the outbreak of the Second World War. The three Rhodesian squadrons served with distinction in East Africa, the Western Desert, Italy and Western Europe. At home Rhodesia became a vast training ground for airmen from across the Empire-from Britain, the Commonwealth and even Greece. After the war, Rhodesia, on a negligible budget, rebuilt its air force, equipping it with Ansons, Spitfires, Vampires, Canberras, Hunters and Alouettes. Following UDI, the unilateral declaration of independence from Britain in 1965, international sanctions were imposed, resulting in many remarkable and groundbreaking innovations, particularly in the way of ordnance. The bitter 'bush war' followed in the late 1960s and '70s, with the RhAF in the vanguard of local counterinsurgency operations and audacious preemptive strikes against vast guerrilla bases in neighboring Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana and as far afield as Angola and Tanzania. With its aging fleet, including C-47 'Dakotas' that had been at Arnhem, the RhAF was able to wreak untold havoc on the enemy, Mugabe's ZANLA and Nkomo's ZIPRA. The late author took over 30 years in writing this book; the result is a comprehensive record that reflects the pride, professionalism and dedication of what were some of the world's finest airmen of their time. The late Beryl Salt was born in London in 1931. She emigrated to Southern Rhodesia in 1952 to get married in Salisbury, where her two sons were born. In 1953 she joined the Southern Rhodesian Broadcasting Services (later the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation, the RBC). With a love of history she wanted to find out as much as she could about her new country. This interest led to radio dramas and feature programmes, followed by several books: School History Text Book, The Encyclopaedia of Rhodesia and The Valiant Years, a history of the country as seen through the newspapers. She also produced a dramatized radio series about the Rhodesian Air Force. In 1965 she left the RBC and spent three years with the Ministry of Information, following which she was a freelance writer/broadcaster involved in a wide variety of projects until 1980 when she moved to Cape Town. She died in England in November 2001.

Destiny of Eagles by William W. Johnstone Pdf

Falcon MacCallister comes to the aid of Rough Rider Teddy Roosevelt in this rip-roaring Western adventure from the bestselling author of Blood of Eagles. Falcon MacCallister’s father was a legend in the West, while Falcon’s quest for justice has driven him onto the wild side of the law. Famed as a gunslinger, feared for his lethal speed and accuracy, Falcon decides to make it a fair fight when he comes upon a man being attacked by a bandit gang in the Dakota Territory. The man is Teddy Roosevelt, the Rough Rider, himself. Roosevelt knows a brave man when he sees one. And he calls on Falcon when a judge’s daughter is taken by an outlaw trying to pry his brother free. With no trust in—or from—the law, Falcon has only one way to do this job: alone and ready to kill. But the outlaws know he’s coming, the woman he’s trying to rescue knows some tricks of her own, and winning a bloody battle in the Dakotas will take more than courage—it will take a man’s will to live like a legend . . . or die like one. Praise for the Eagles series “[A] rousing, two-fisted saga of the growing American frontier.”—Publishers Weekly “Solid, page-turning entertainment featuring a larger-than-life, old-fashioned hero in MacCallister.”—Booklist

What the Eagle Sees by Eldon Yellowhorn,Kathy Lowinger Pdf

"There is no death. Only a change of worlds.” —Chief Seattle [Seatlh], Suquamish Chief What do people do when their civilization is invaded? Indigenous people have been faced with disease, war, broken promises, and forced assimilation. Despite crushing losses and insurmountable challenges, they formed new nations from the remnants of old ones, they adopted new ideas and built on them, they fought back, and they kept their cultures alive. When the only possible “victory” was survival, they survived. In this brilliant follow up to Turtle Island, esteemed academic Eldon Yellowhorn and award-winning author Kathy Lowinger team up again, this time to tell the stories of what Indigenous people did when invaders arrived on their homelands. What the Eagle Sees shares accounts of the people, places, and events that have mattered in Indigenous history from a vastly under-represented perspective—an Indigenous viewpoint.

New York Times Bestseller: The “extraordinary” true story of a golden eagle adopted by a California ranching family, and how she changed their lives (Delia Ephron). In 1955, Ed Durden brought a baby golden eagle home to his ranch in California, where she would stay for the next sixteen years. As her bond with Ed and the Durden family grew, the eagle, named Lady, displayed a fierce intelligence and strong personality. She learned quickly, had a strong mothering instinct (even for other species), and never stopped surprising those who cared for her. An eight-week New York Times bestseller, Gifts of an Eagle is a fascinating up-close look at one of the most majestic creatures in nature, as well as a heartwarming family story and “an affectionate, unsentimental tribute” (Kirkus Reviews).

Pride of Eagles by Kathleen Mckenna Hewtson Pdf

After the near-catastrophic events of the Russo-Japanese War and the 1905 Revolution, the years 1907-13 passed relatively peacefully in Russia as Chief Minister Stolypin steered the country away from war and civil disruption, and toward industrialization and economic prosperity. However, in Tsarskoe Selo, the closeted domestic life of the Imperial Family was far from calm. While Emperor Nicholas II cloistered himself away in his study, Empress Alexandra struggled with her own chronic ill-health and that of the light of her life, the Tsarevich Alexei, whose hemophilia threatened the future of the House of Romanov as it approached its tercentenary. The only person holding out the promise of a cure for Alexei's illness was a wandering holy man from Siberia called Rasputin, whose wild and licentious ways stoked outrage and hatred against him among ruling circles every bit as much as his apparently miraculous healing powers built the Empress' devotion. As Rasputin put it, so long as the Romanovs kept faith with him, all would be well; should they be involved in his death, they too would be destroyed. And then there was the Empress' constant companion, Anya Vyroubova, whose guileless appearance and behavior masked an astute and scheming nature. Her alliance with Rasputin was to undermine yet further the public reputation of the Empress, and therefore ultimately that of the Emperor himself and of his dynasty. All five volumes are (planned) as follows: 1. 'The Funeral Bride' 1884-1894 - published November 2015 2. 'The Empress of Tears' 1895-1904 - published March 2016 3. 'The Shaken Throne' 1904-1907 - published July 2016 4. 'Pride of Eagles' 1907-1914 - published May 2017 5. 'No Greater Crown' 1914-1918 - to be published by March 2018
