Ethical Leadership in Organizations by Patrick Kimuyu Pdf

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Business Ethics, Corporate Ethics, grade: 1.4, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: Everyone has the entitlement to privacy whether he/she is a public figure or a business leader. However, public life demands that individuals at the helm of leadership conceptualize certain things that guide their behaviour both in public and private situations. Becoming a corporate leader demands observing public service ethics, this in turn demands that individuals give public interest priority to shape their behaviours whether they are executing private or public life. It is not always conceivable that the ethical behaviour of leaders in their personal lives automatically reflect their ethical behaviour as business leaders. It is this conviction that makes it meaningful for individuals to have separate private and public lives. Usually, the image individuals volunteer to represent them in public might be hard to extend to private lives. Too often, the desire to improve business leadership has made it tempting to spy on individuals’ private lives to validate one’s authenticity to ethical leadership. This in essence stipulates that leaders should not take leave of personal ethics that makes them who they are even in private. Within the leadership principles, keeping to high ideals cherished in business leadership is the best way to carry one’s self whether in private or public space.

Ethical Leadership by Aidan McQuade Pdf

Ethical leadership does not simply emerge from a code of conduct, a good school, or a host of good intentions. It is an individual choice, or rather a series of choices that emerges from the complex interaction of personal values with social imperatives. This book explores how and why some people become ethical leaders in morally challenging and complex social environments. In Ethical Leadership, Aidan McQuade provides insight into the concept of human agency – the individual’s choice of a course of action in response to the options posed by that individual’s engagement with the social world. He puts forth a new model of human agency – the "cruciform of agency" – which recognises that the potential range of individual action emerges from the nature of the resonance that social options strike with personal thoughts. Every action adds to the individual’s personal biography in ways that influence subsequent choices by confirming or changing personal values and hopes, hence influencing the way the individual subsequently thinks about the world. In explaining the potential and limits of human agency for ethical leadership, the book establishes a basis for executives, policy makers and academics to conceptualise and develop more robust and realistic approaches for the mitigation of some of the most pressing moral issues facing humanity today. These include the inter-related challenges of modern slavery and global warming, which pose such critical threats to the Earth itself. In this book McQuade not only sets an agenda for action but empowers individual leaders to find the moral courage to better advance human rights and preserve the environment even when such action requires unpopular choices.

Exploring leadership and ethical practice through... by Déirdre Smith,Patricia Goldblatt Pdf

Exploring Leadership and Ethical Practice through Professional Inquiry is wonderfully constructed to prompt us to analyze the perplexing problems that inevitably occur when people work in the same institution, through the visions, theories, and moral principles that underlie schools at their best. Marvelous – and marvelously narrated – cases, followed by tools for inquiry and lively reflections are well-designed to engage aspiring and practicing leaders in honing the ethical principles that will guide their own work. Christine Sleeter, PhD Professor Emerita, California State University Monterey Bay Exploring Leadership and Ethical Practice through Professional Inquiry This collection of case studies is a perfect example of the potential role of professional inquiry as a professional learning approach. The truly exceptional achievement of this work is unquestionably the fact that it sought out highly reputed educators in the Ontario, national and international education communities. It is comforting to see that, in spite of their impressive collective knowledge and experience, even the commentators do not always agree when it comes to the most important areas of focus. The result is a multidimensional overview that can easily lead to provocative discussions. This work is a significant addition to the scholarship of educational leadership. The Anatomy of Ethical Leadership by Lyse Langlois Pdf

Maximizing productivity without regard for human consequences, the quest for profit above all else, the stifling of individual personality and creative expression, a competitive atmosphere-these are the reigning features of the modern workplace. Although many writers have called attention to the debilitating effects of this dehumanization of the working environment, solutions have been less in evidence. In The Anatomy of Ethical Leadership, Lyse Langlois frames the problem in terms of ethics, pointing to the fact that managers are often uncertain how to integrate ethical considerations into their process of decision making. She explores the instrumental, often highly legalistic patterns of thought that pervade modern organizations and proposes instead a new emphasis on dialogue and on modes of reasoning that make room for the complexity of ordinary reality. To that end, she outlines a trajectory for ethical, responsible, and authentic decision making--the TERA model-that managers --

Principle-Centered Leadership by Stephen R. Covey Pdf

An inspirational and practical guide to leadership from the New York Times–bestselling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Covey, named one of Time magazine’s 25 Most Influential Americans, is a renowned authority on leadership, whose insightful advice has helped millions. In his follow-up to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, he poses these fundamental questions: How do we as individuals and organizations survive and thrive amid tremendous change? Why are efforts to improve falling so short in real results? How do we unleash the creativity, talent, and energy within ourselves and others? Is it realistic to believe that balance among personal and professional life is possible? The key to dealing with the challenges that we face is to identify a principle-centered core within ourselves and our institutions. In Principle-Centered Leadership, Covey outlines a long-term, inside-out approach to developing people and organizations. Offering insights and guidelines on how to apply these principles both at work and at home, Covey posits that these steps will lead not only to an increase in productivity and quality of work, but also to a new appreciation of personal and professional relationships as we strive to enjoy a more balanced, rewarding, and ultimately more effective life. “There seems to be no limit to the number of writers offering answers to the great perplexities of life. Covey, however, is the North Star in this field . . . without hesitation, strongly recommended.” —Library Journal

Streetsense by Kate Dernocoeur Pdf

Industry leaders who read any of the three prior editions of Streetsense over the years (starting in 1986) often say it had a huge impact on their street careers. This fourth edition still addresses the triad of communication, safety, and control, but it also reflects the evolution of the emergency care industry since the arrival of the millennium: computers and cellphones, social media, active shooters, and much, much more. This book offers emergency providers methods for managing all sorts of situations safely and effectively. THE THREE MAIN PILLARS OF STREETSENSE: • Interpersonal communication with people of all sorts (including your colleagues) • Safety in various aspects—such as managing crowds, traffic, and weaponized situations • Control of such things as all types of scenes, stress, death and dying, and even legal matters Early in her career on the streets, Kate realized how much more there was to learn beyond the straight medical training. From her mentors and years of observation and experimentation, she learned the craft of emergency care. This book offers scores of tips and tricks (and traps) for helping people in crisis. Just as many industry leaders have discovered, it is a seriously helpful book.

Ethical Leadership by Walter E. Fluker Pdf

We live in a leadership crisis. "In an age when incompatible worlds collide and when scandals rock formerly stable institutions," says Walter Fluker, "what counts most is ethical leadership and the qualities of personal integrity, spiritual discipline, intellectual openness, and moral anchoring." Fluker finds these characteristics exemplified in the work and thought of black-church giants Martin Luther King Jr. and Howard Thurman. This volume, for leaders and emergent leaders in religious and other settings, sets forth the context and principles for ethical leadership, particularly for ministries and other professions whose mission directly advances the common good. Fluker's volume grounds leadership in story, the appropriation of one's roots, as a basis for personal and social transformation. He then explores the key values of character, civility, and community for ethical action on the personal, public, and spiritual realms. From these considerations he develops a model of the specific virtues that embody each realm of ethical leadership before applying them to the practical aspects of leadership and decisionmaking.

The Power of Character in Leadership by Myles Munroe Pdf

How to Protect Your Leadership Influence and Power You’ve worked hard to achieve your dreams and goals. Many others have done the same—only to lose it all in the end. Every day, we read about successful people in various walks of life who have lost their power and influence. They’ve been fired, forced to resign, or shamed out of public life. They no longer have a market for their gifts, and they may even face criminal proceedings. These leaders have lost the trust of their companies, constituents, nations, followers, and families. Many were surprised to discover that their talents alone were not enough to prevent their downfall. Why did they fail in the end? Because they lacked the one quality that would have protected their leadership and given them enduring influence. Ironically, this quality is seldom taught to leaders today, either formally or informally. It is the quality of moral force, or character. Every human being is a leader over some domain as he or she exercises gifts and influence. That domain might be the halls of government, the boardroom, the classroom, the community, or the home. In The Power of Character in Leadership: How Values, Morals, Ethics, and Principles Affect Leaders, you will discover what character is, what it means to develop moral force, and how to preserve your leadership influence so that it is both effective and enduring.
