Empirical Foundations of Information and Software Science V by Pranas Zunde,D. Hocking Pdf

This is the proceedings of the Sixth Symposium on Empirical Foundations of Information and Software Sciences (EFISS), which was held in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 19-21, 1988. The purpose of the symposia is to explore subjects and methods of scientific inquiry which are of common interest to information and software sciences, and to identify directions of research that would benefit from the mutual interaction of these two disciplines. The main theme of the sixth symposium was modeling in information and software engineering, with emphasis on methods and tools of modeling. The symposium covered topics such as models of individual and organizational users of information systems, methods of selecting appropriate types of models for a given type of users and a given type of tasks, deriving models from records of system usage, modeling system evolution, constructing user and task models for adaptive systems, and models of system architectures. This symposium was sponsored by the School of Information and Computer Science of the Georgia Institute of Technology and by the U.S. Army Institute for Research in Management Information, Communications, and Computer Sciences (AIRMICS). 17le Editors vii CONTENTS 1 I. Ada: The Design Choice by Angel Alvarez Pdf

This book contains the proceedings of the 1989 Ada-Europe conference. These meetings constitute the most significant events in this field within Europe, and attract delegates from around the world. The theme of this year's conference is design methods; this is of major importance since both Ada compilers and the applications built with Ada are huge. Papers in this volume, which have all been carefully refereed, study the design methods within Ada, and how they may need to be augmented with additional methods and tools where necessary. They make informed and essential reading for all involved in the use of Ada in industry and research.

Product-Focused Software Process Improvement by Jürgen Münch,Pekka Abrahamsson Pdf

A vital new publication for scientists and researchers in the field, this book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Product Focused Software Process Improvement, PROFES 2007, held in Riga, Latvia in July 2007. The 29 revised full papers, along with four reports on workshops and tutorials and four keynote addresses were carefully reviewed and selected from 55 submissions. The papers constitute a balanced mix of academic and industrial aspects; they are organized in topical sections for ease of reference.

Software Reuse by James W. Hooper,Rowena O. Chester Pdf

Observers in the present usually have an advantage when it comes to interpreting events of the past. In the case of software reuse, how ever, it is unclear why an idea that has gained such universal accep tance was the source of swirling controversy when it began to be taken seriously by the software engineering community in the mid-1980's. From a purely conceptual point of view, the reuse of software de signs and components promises nearly risk-free benefits to the devel oper. Virtually every model of software cost and development effort predicts first-order dependencies on either products size or the num ber of steps carried out in development. Reduce the amount of new product to be developed and the cost of producing the product de creases. Remove development steps, and total effort is reduced. By reusing previously developed engineering products the amount of new product and the number of development steps can be reduced. In this way, reuse clearly has a major influence on reducing total development cost and effort. This, of course, raises the issue of from whence the reused products arise. There has to be a prior investment in creating "libraries of reuse products before reuse can be successfuL . . " How can organizations with a "bottom line" orientation be enticed into contributing to a reuse venture? Fortunately, the economics of reuse l resembles many other financial investment situations .

Instructional Technology by Robert M. Gagne Pdf

First Published in 1987. The technical knowledge that constitutes instructional technology includes practical procedures for using existing media to deliver instruction, and also to deliver portions of instruction that supplement the communications of an instructor. Instructional technology includes practical techniques of instructional delivery that systematically aim for effective learning, whether or not they involve the use of media. It is a basic purpose of the field of instructional technology to promote and aid the application of these known and validated procedures in the design and delivery of instruction.
