Robust Adaptive Control by Petros Ioannou,Jing Sun Pdf

This tutorial-style presentation of the fundamental techniques and algorithms in adaptive control is designed to meet the needs of a wide audience without sacrificing mathematical depth or rigor. The text explores the design, analysis, and application of a wide variety of algorithms that can be used to manage dynamical systems with unknown parameters. Topics include models for dynamic systems, stability, online parameter estimation, parameter identifiers, model reference adaptive control, adaptive pole placement control, and robust adaptive laws. Engineers and students interested in learning how to design, stimulate, and implement parameter estimators and adaptive control schemes will find that this treatment does not require a full understanding of the analytical and technical proofs. This volume will also serve graduate students who wish to examine the analysis of simple schemes and discover the steps involved in more complex proofs. Advanced students and researchers will find it a guide to the grasp of long and technical proofs. Numerous examples demonstrating design procedures and the techniques of basic analysis enrich the text.

The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report by Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission Pdf

The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report, published by the U.S. Government and the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission in early 2011, is the official government report on the United States financial collapse and the review of major financial institutions that bankrupted and failed, or would have without help from the government. The commission and the report were implemented after Congress passed an act in 2009 to review and prevent fraudulent activity. The report details, among other things, the periods before, during, and after the crisis, what led up to it, and analyses of subprime mortgage lending, credit expansion and banking policies, the collapse of companies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the federal bailouts of Lehman and AIG. It also discusses the aftermath of the fallout and our current state. This report should be of interest to anyone concerned about the financial situation in the U.S. and around the world.THE FINANCIAL CRISIS INQUIRY COMMISSION is an independent, bi-partisan, government-appointed panel of 10 people that was created to "examine the causes, domestic and global, of the current financial and economic crisis in the United States." It was established as part of the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009. The commission consisted of private citizens with expertise in economics and finance, banking, housing, market regulation, and consumer protection. They examined and reported on "the collapse of major financial institutions that failed or would have failed if not for exceptional assistance from the government."News Dissector DANNY SCHECHTER is a journalist, blogger and filmmaker. He has been reporting on economic crises since the 1980's when he was with ABC News. His film In Debt We Trust warned of the economic meltdown in 2006. He has since written three books on the subject including Plunder: Investigating Our Economic Calamity (Cosimo Books, 2008), and The Crime Of Our Time: Why Wall Street Is Not Too Big to Jail (Disinfo Books, 2011), a companion to his latest film Plunder The Crime Of Our Time. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Indications by Linda Ed Weaver Pdf

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) is an international, non-profit organization serving over 2,400 members from more than 50 countries. The UHMS is the primary source of scientific information for diving and hyperbaric medicine physiology worldwide, the breadth of which is illustrated in the triennial report, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Indications. With leading experts authoring chapters in their respective fields, this publication continues to provide the most current and up to date guidance and support for scientists and practitioners of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Indications, currently in its thirteenth edition, has grown in size and depth to reflect the evolution of the literature on the approved use of hyperbarics from both a clinical practice standpoint and insurance coverage perspective. To date, the committee recognizes fourteen indications, including the new indication, idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Additionally, this book continues to be used by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other third party insurance carriers in determining payment for HBO2 services.

Drinking Water Distribution Systems by National Research Council,Division on Earth and Life Studies,Water Science and Technology Board,Committee on Public Water Supply Distribution Systems: Assessing and Reducing Risks Pdf

Protecting and maintaining water distributions systems is crucial to ensuring high quality drinking water. Distribution systems-consisting of pipes, pumps, valves, storage tanks, reservoirs, meters, fittings, and other hydraulic appurtenances-carry drinking water from a centralized treatment plant or well supplies to consumers' taps. Spanning almost 1 million miles in the United States, distribution systems represent the vast majority of physical infrastructure for water supplies, and thus constitute the primary management challenge from both an operational and public health standpoint. Recent data on waterborne disease outbreaks suggest that distribution systems remain a source of contamination that has yet to be fully addressed. This report evaluates approaches for risk characterization and recent data, and it identifies a variety of strategies that could be considered to reduce the risks posed by water-quality deteriorating events in distribution systems. Particular attention is given to backflow events via cross connections, the potential for contamination of the distribution system during construction and repair activities, maintenance of storage facilities, and the role of premise plumbing in public health risk. The report also identifies advances in detection, monitoring and modeling, analytical methods, and research and development opportunities that will enable the water supply industry to further reduce risks associated with drinking water distribution systems.
