Effective Software Maintenance and Evolution by Stanislaw Jarzabek Pdf

With software maintenance costs averaging 50% of total computing costs, it is necessary to have an effective maintenance program in place. Aging legacy systems, for example, pose an especially rough challenge as veteran programmers retire and their successors are left to figure out how the systems operate. This book explores program analyzers, reve

Identifying Relevant Information for Testing Technique Selection by Sira Vegas,Natalia Juristo,Victor R. Basili Pdf

Engineering tasks are supposed to achieve defined goals under certain project constraints. Example goals of software engineering tasks include achieving a certain functionality together with some level of reliability or performance. Example constraints of software engineering tasks include budget and time limitations or experience limitations of the developers at hand. Planning of an engineering project requires the selection of techniques, methods and tools suited to achieve stated goals under given project constraints. This assumes sufficient knowledge regarding the process-product relationships (or effects) of candidate techniques, methods and tools. Planning of software projects suffers greatly from lack of knowledge regarding the process-product relationships of candidate techniques, methods and tools. Especially in the area of testing a project planner is confronted with an abundance of testing techniques, but very little knowledge regarding their effects under varying project conditions. This book offers a novel approach to addressing this problem: First, based on a comprehensive initial characterization scheme (see chapter 7) an overview of existing testing techniques and their effects under varying conditions is provided to guide the selection of testing approaches. Second, the optimisation of this knowledge base is suggested based on experience from experts, real projects and scientific experiments (chapters 8, 9, and 10). This book is of equal interest to practitioners, researchers and students. Practitioners interested in identifying ways to organize their company-specific knowledge about testing could start with the schema provided in this book, and optimise it further by applying similar strategies as offered in chapters 8 and 9.

How to Use Objects by Holger Gast Pdf

While most developers today use object-oriented languages, the full power of objects is available only to those with a deep understanding of the object paradigm. How to Use Objects will help you gain that understanding, so you can write code that works exceptionally well in the real world. Author Holger Gast focuses on the concepts that have repeatedly proven most valuable and shows how to render those concepts in concrete code. Rather than settling for minimal examples, he explores crucial intricacies, clarifies easily misunderstood ideas, and helps you avoid subtle errors that could have disastrous consequences. Gast addresses the technical aspects of working with languages, libraries, and frameworks, as well as the strategic decisions associated with patterns, contracts, design, and system architecture. He explains the roles of individual objects in a complete application, how they react to events and fulfill service requests, and how to transform excellent designs into excellent code. Using practical examples based on Eclipse, he also shows how tools can help you work more efficiently, save you time, and sometimes even write high-quality code for you. Gast writes for developers who have at least basic experience: those who’ve finished an introductory programming course, a university computer science curriculum, or a first or second job assignment. Coverage includes • Understanding what a professionally designed object really looks like • Writing code that reflects your true intentions—and testing to make sure it does • Applying language idioms and connotations to write more readable and maintainable code • Using design-by-contract to write code that consistently does what it’s supposed to do • Coding and architecting effective event-driven software • Separating model and view, and avoiding common mistakes • Mastering strategies and patterns for efficient, flexible design • Ensuring predictable object collaboration via responsibility-driven design Register your product at informit.com/register for convenient access to downloads, updates, and corrections as they become available.

Reference Information for the Software Verification and Validation Process by Dolores R. Wallace,Laura M. Ippolito,Barbara B. Cuthill Pdf

Computing systems are employed in the health care environment in efforts to increase reliability of care and reduce costs. Software verification and validation (V&V) is an aid in determining that the software requirements are implemented correctly and completely and are traceable to system requirements. It helps to ensure that those system functions controlled by software are secure, reliable, and maintainable. Software V&V is conducted throughout the planning, development and maintenance of software systems, including knowledge based systems, and may assist in assuring appropriate reuse of software.

Reusability for Intelligent Realtime Interactive Systems by Dennis Wiebusch Pdf

With recent releases of affordable hardware devices the fields of Virtual, Mixed, and Augmented Reality gained considerable attention, wherefore the creation of corresponding software becomes increasingly important. In the absence of a common model for flexibly combining and reusing appropriate software modules, such Realtime Interactive Systems are commonly implemented from scratch. Borrowing from the fields of Software Engineering and Knowledge Representation, this work develops a model for the creation of reusable components from existing software modules. With a Knowledge Representation Layer at its core the model additionally enables the utilization of methods from the field of Artificial Intelligence, thereby supporting the creation of Intelligent Realtime Interactive Systems.
