Promoting Equity and Justice Through Pedagogical Partnership by Alise de Bie,Elizabeth Marquis,Alison Cook-Sather,Leslie Luqueño Pdf

Faculty and staff in higher education are looking for ways to address the deep inequity and systemic racism that pervade our colleges and universities. Pedagogical partnership can be a powerful tool to enhance equity, inclusion, and justice in our classrooms and curricula. These partnerships create opportunities for students from underrepresented and equity-seeking groups to collaborate with faculty and staff to revise and reinvent pedagogies, assessments, and course designs, positioning equity and justice as core educational aims. When students have a seat at the table, previously unheard voices are amplified, and diversity and difference introduce essential perspectives that are too often overlooked. In particular, the book contributes to the literature on pedagogical partnership and equity in education by integrating theory, synthesizing research, and providing concrete examples of the ways partnership can contribute to more equitable educational systems. At the same time, the authors acknowledge that partnership can only realize its full potential to redress harms and promote equity and justice when thoughtfully enacted. This book is a resource that will inspire and challenge a wide variety of higher education faculty and staff and contribute to advancing both practice and research on the potential of student-faculty pedagogical partnerships. Presenting a conceptual framework for understanding the various epistemological, affective, and ontological harms that face students from equity-seeking groups in postsecondary education, Promoting Equity and Justice Through Pedagogical Partnership applies this conceptual framework to current literature in partnerships, highlighting the promise of partnership as the way to redress these harms. The authors ground both the conceptual framework and the literature review by offering two case studies of pedagogical partnership in practice. They then explore the complexities raised by their framework, including the conditions under which partnerships themselves may risk reproducing epistemic, affective, or ontological harms. Applying the framework in this way allows them to propose strategies that make it more likely for these mediations to be successful. Finally, the authors focus on the future of pedagogical partnership and share their perspectives on new directions for inquiry and practice. After summarizing the overarching themes developed throughout the book, the authors leave the reader with a set of questions and recommendations for further inquiry and discussion. Promoting Gender Equality in Political Participation by Damilola Taiye Agbalajobi Pdf

The book analyses patterns of women’s political participation and evaluates disparity between levels of women’s participation in politics and representation in governance in Nigeria. It also examines the causes of women’s underrepresentation in governance and decision-making as well as their implications for the country’s socioeconomic development and describes strategies for increased women’s representation in governance and decision-making in Nigeria. This study relies on political-culture and liberal-feminist theory and adopts a mixed-method research design involving quantitative and qualitative methods. It uses multistage sampling in selecting Nigeria’s South-East, North-West and South-West geopolitical-zones and 1206 women of electoral age for the study survey conducted using structured questionnaire and in-depth interview.

Women and Trade by World Bank;World Trade Organization Pdf

Trade can dramatically improve women’s lives, creating new jobs, enhancing consumer choices, and increasing women’s bargaining power in society. It can also lead to job losses and a concentration of work in low-skilled employment. Given the complexity and specificity of the relationship between trade and gender, it is essential to assess the potential impact of trade policy on both women and men and to develop appropriate, evidence-based policies to ensure that trade helps to enhance opportunities for all. Research on gender equality and trade has been constrained by limited data and a lack of understanding of the connections among the economic roles that women play as workers, consumers, and decision makers. Building on new analyses and new sex-disaggregated data, Women and Trade: The Role of Trade in Promoting Gender Equality aims to advance the understanding of the relationship between trade and gender equality and to identify a series of opportunities through which trade can improve the lives of women.

Equality and Inclusion in Early Childhood, 2nd Edition by Jennie Lindon Pdf

Equality and inclusion in early childhood will help you to understand the key principles and best practice across the areas of social inclusion: gender, ethnic group and cultural background or faith, disability and health. You will be able not only to understand special issues, but also how to address dilemmas in balancing the diverse needs of children and families within provision. This new edition brings readers up to date with changes in legislation and guidance. The content reflects recent developments to address the experiences of boys and concerns about their achievement. New perspectives focus on ensuring a proportionate response to family preferences for children's care. A notable feature of Equality and inclusion in early childhood is how readers are supported to link equality practice with a sound knowledge of what young children understand and how their attitudes develop. This book is part of Jennie Lindon's series 'Linking Theory and Practice'. The established approach provides accessible descriptions of relevant theory and research, yet links this information closely to practice with young children and families. The content and style of the series has been developed to support students on Early Childhood degree programmes, Early Years Foundation Degree courses, practitioners working towards Early Years Professional Status and also experienced senior practitioners extending their professional development and that of their team.

Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law by Mark Butler Pdf

Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law covers The Equality Act 2010 and other anti-discrimination protections both within the UK legislation and in the context of EU law. The UK’s approach to ensuring equality for the workforce is notoriously difficult to navigate, with various aspects of protection being contained and discussed across a range of statutory and non-statutory instruments. Although the Equality Act 2010 is often viewed as central to the equality laws of the UK, there are other key areas that must also be borne in mind, including atypical worker protection and family friendly regulation: each of these are discussed to sufficient detail to enable the reader to gain a working understanding of how each operates. In considering each of these key areas this text attempts to decipher and navigate each of them with the end user in mind. The protections, and the thresholds that need to be satisfied to acquire the protections, are broken down into their constituent parts and analysed using key case law and relevant codes of practices with a view to ensuring that their practical use is understood by the reader. Through adopting this approach the book ensures that the reader gets to grips with key concepts that protect on an equality footing. The text takes account of case law from both UK courts, and European Courts where this is needed. This helps show the interaction that UK and EU law has in the area of equality law, and that the systems are interdependent to some extent. For those wishing to go beyond the simple practical application of the law the text touches upon a number of academic debates that exist in the area of equality law, to further stimulate those with an interest in the law, but further to highlight some of the perceived weaknesses that exist with the UK’s current approach to equality protection, and whets the appetite for further discussion.
