Time for PsyQ by Marti Ward Pdf

The building of the hadron collider was once big news, but now it is just part of the scenery for most of the community, until Airlie and other children start showing unusual gifts. Airlie uses her psi abilities to solve a number of mysteries and crimes at her school and in her neighborhood - and comes to the attention of Inspector Jonathan Humble of Minor Crimes. Towards the end of the school year, Airlie gets two intriguing invitations: an offer of a scholarship to a new middle school with 'opportunity classes' in exotic subjects like Quantum Psychology, and a free place at a summer camp run by Inspector Humble. The two invitations and her emergent psionic talents are clearly connected, and Airlie can't resist the opportunity to learn more about her gifts and to meet others with psyq powers at the camp. But Airlie ends up in a desperate race to rescue one of her new friends. This story is set in the "Appearance of Magic" universe. People are saying: 'Harry Potter meets Friday Barnes with shades of Mercedes Lackey or Anne McCaffrey' — SAD 'A middle grade adventure with an original twist and a cast of endearing young heroes, Time for PsyQ is a phenomenally fun read, a kind of mash-up of Scooby Doo and Harry Potter. Like other young fellowship series, the key is the strong relationship dynamics, which are especially strong here, and the premise is enchanting from the start.' — SPR 'A cleverly plotted supernatural adventure for middle graders and young teenagers with a strong cast of young characters and a memorable protagonist... there's an Enid Blyton feel to the book, particularly when she's solving a mystery.' — The Wishing Shelf Awards 'A creative, imagination-inspiring fantasy/adventure for upper middle-grade readers as well as adults.' — Reedsy Discovery 'Time for PsyQ by Marti Ward is an absolute gem in the realm of young adult hard science fiction. Monitoring Polymerization Reactions by Wayne F. Reed,Alina M. Alb Pdf

Offers new strategies to optimize polymer reactions With contributions from leading macromolecular scientists and engineers, this book provides a practical guide to polymerization monitoring. It enables laboratory researchers to optimize polymer reactions by providing them with a better understanding of the underlying reaction kinetics and mechanisms. Moreover, it opens the door to improved industrial-scale reactions, including enhanced product quality and reduced harmful emissions. Monitoring Polymerization Reactions begins with a review of the basic elements of polymer reactions and their kinetics, including an overview of stimuli-responsive polymers. Next, it explains why certain polymer and reaction characteristics need to be monitored. The book then explores a variety of practical topics, including: Principles and applications of important polymer characterization tools, such as light scattering, gel permeation chromatography, calorimetry, rheology, and spectroscopy Automatic continuous online monitoring of polymerization (ACOMP) reactions, a flexible platform that enables characterization tools to be employed simultaneously during reactions in order to obtain a complete record of multiple reaction features Modeling of polymerization reactions and numerical approaches Applications that optimize the manufacture of industrially important polymers Throughout the book, the authors provide step-by-step strategies for implementation. In addition, ample use of case studies helps readers understand the benefits of various monitoring strategies and approaches, enabling them to choose the best one to match their needs. As new stimuli-responsive and "intelligent" polymers continue to be developed, the ability to monitor reactions will become increasingly important. With this book as their guide, polymer scientists and engineers can take full advantage of the latest monitoring strategies to optimize reactions in both the lab and the manufacturing plant.

An Anatomy of The Turn of the Screw by Thomas Mabry Cranfill,Robert Lanier Clark Pdf

The ambiguous intent of Henry James’s horror story The Turn of the Screw has fascinated and divided its readers since its publication in 1898. The division arises between the apparitionists and the nonapparitionists in interpretation of the plot and the characters. Thomas Mabry Cranfill and Robert Lanier Clark, Jr., have here taken up the argument and made an interpretation of their own. The authors carefully considered the mountainous critical comment, studied James’s statements regarding his intent, and minutely scrutinized the story itself. After all this probing of opinions and following of clues and observing of human beings in action, they have come out strongly on the side of the nonapparitionists. The authors base their conclusion on analyses of character, centrally that of the governess, whom they consider the protagonist of the fearsome drama, but peripherally those of Mrs. Grose, the children, the uncle in Harley Street, and even the deceased Miss Jessel and Peter Quint. Relentlessly they relate every episode, action, and speech to the character of the governess and her relationships with those around her at Bly, picturing her as a psychological “case” whose abnormal mental state brings to those around her the inescapable misery they all suffer. The authors’ analysis unfolds as interestingly in terms of character and motive as if the reader did not already know what happens in James’s much-read story. It moves, moreover, with something of the same suspense as James’s horror tale, although the tension is intellectual rather than emotional. Each additional disclosure of evidence, the resolution of each situation, and the clarification of every puzzling ambiguity builds the analysis step-by-inevitable-step to its inescapable conclusion. The style of the analysis is graceful, urbane, and witty. The introduction gives an excellent appraisal of literary comment on James’s story and an illuminating summary of the literary “war” over the meaning of it; the bibliography provides an impressive list of books and articles on this subject, annotated to indicate in what particular ways each makes a contribution to the controversy.

Asymptotic Methods for Integrals by Nico M Temme Pdf

This book gives introductory chapters on the classical basic and standard methods for asymptotic analysis, such as Watson's lemma, Laplace's method, the saddle point and steepest descent methods, stationary phase and Darboux's method. The methods, explained in great detail, will obtain asymptotic approximations of the well-known special functions of mathematical physics and probability theory. After these introductory chapters, the methods of uniform asymptotic analysis are described in which several parameters have influence on typical phenomena: turning points and transition points, coinciding saddle and singularities. In all these examples, the special functions are indicated that describe the peculiar behavior of the integrals. The text extensively covers the classical methods with an emphasis on how to obtain expansions, and how to use the results for numerical methods, in particular for approximating special functions. In this way, we work with a computational mind: how can we use certain expansions in numerical analysis and in computer programs, how can we compute coefficients, and so on. Contents:Basic Methods for IntegralsBasic Methods: Examples for Special FunctionsOther Methods for IntegralsUniform Methods for IntegralsUniform Methods for Laplace-Type IntegralsUniform Examples for Special FunctionsA Class of Cumulative Distribution Functions Readership: Researchers in applied mathematics, engineering, physics, mathematical statistics, probability theory and biology. The introductory parts and examples will be useful for post-graduate students in mathematics. Key Features:The book gives a complete overview of the classical asymptotic methods for integralsThe many examples give insight in the behavior of the well-known special functionsThe detailed explanations on how to obtain the coefficients in the expansions make the results useful for numerical applications, in particular, for computing special functionsThe many results on asymptotic representations of special functions supplement and extend those in the NIST Handbook of Mathematical FunctionsKeywords:Asymptotic Analysis;Approximation of Integrals;Asymptotic Approximations;Asymptotic Expansions;Steepest Descent Methods;Saddle Point Methods;Stationary Phase Method;Special Functions;Numerical Approximation of Special Functions;Cumulative Distribution FunctionsReviews: “The book is a useful contribution to the literature.
