Applying Fuzzy Mathematics to Formal Models in Comparative Politics by Terry D. Clark,Jennifer M. Larson,John N. Mordeson,Joshua D. Potter,Mark J. Wierman Pdf

This book explores the intersection of fuzzy mathematics and the spatial modeling of preferences in political science. Beginning with a critique of conventional modeling approaches predicated on Cantor set theoretical assumptions, the authors outline the potential benefits of a fuzzy approach to the study of ambiguous or uncertain preference profiles. This is a good text for a graduate seminar in formal modeling. It is also suitable as an introductory text in fuzzy mathematics.

Dynamics of Infinite Dimensional Systems by Shui-Nee Chow,Jack K. Hale Pdf

The 1986 NATO Advanced Study Insti tute on Dynamics of Infini te Dimensional Systems was held at the Instituto Superior Tecnico. Lisbon. Portugal. In recent years. there have been several research workers who have been considering partial differential equations and functional differential equations as dynamical systems on function spaces. Such approaches have led to the formulation of more theoretical problems that need to be investigated. In the applications. the theoretical ideas have contributed significantly to a better understanding of phenomena that have been experimentally and computationally observed. The investigators of this development come wi th several different backgrounds - some from classical partial differential equations. some from classical ordinary differential equations and some interested in specific applications. Each group has special ideas and often these ideas have not been transmitted from one group to another. The purpose of this NATO Workshop was to bring together research workers from these various areas. It provided asoundboard for the impact of the ideas of each respective discipline. We believe that goal was accomplished. but time will be a better judge. We have included the list of participants at the workshop. with most of these giving a presentation. Although the proceedings do not include all of the presentations. it is a good representative sampie. We wish to express our gratitude to NATO. and.to Dr. M. di Lullo of NATO. who unfortunately did not live to see the completion of this project.

Generalized Functionals of Brownian Motion and Their Applications by Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pdf

This invaluable research monograph presents a unified and fascinating theory of generalized functionals of Brownian motion and other fundamental processes such as fractional Brownian motion and Levy process OCo covering the classical WienerOCoIto class including the generalized functionals of Hida as special cases, among others. It presents a thorough and comprehensive treatment of the WienerOCoSobolev spaces and their duals, as well as Malliavin calculus with their applications. The presentation is lucid and logical, and is based on a solid foundation of analysis and topology. The monograph develops the notions of compactness and weak compactness on these abstract Fock spaces and their duals, clearly demonstrating their nontrivial applications to stochastic differential equations in finite and infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces, optimization and optimal control problems. Readers will find the book an interesting and easy read as materials are presented in a systematic manner with a complete analysis of classical and generalized functionals of scalar Brownian motion, Gaussian random fields and their vector versions in the increasing order of generality. It starts with abstract Fourier analysis on the Wiener measure space where a striking similarity of the celebrated RieszOCoFischer theorem for separable Hilbert spaces and the space of WienerOCoIto functionals is drawn out, thus providing a clear insight into the subject.

Aggregation Functions in Theory and in Practise by Humberto Bustince Sola,Javier Fernandez,Radko Mesiar,Tomasa Calvo Pdf

This volume collects the extended abstracts of 45 contributions of participants to the Seventh International Summer School on Aggregation Operators (AGOP 2013), held at Pamplona in July, 16-20, 2013. These contributions cover a very broad range, from the purely theoretical ones to those with a more applied focus. Moreover, the summaries of the plenary talks and tutorials given at the same workshop are included. Together they provide a good overview of recent trends in research in aggregation functions which can be of interest to both researchers in Physics or Mathematics working on the theoretical basis of aggregation functions, and to engineers who require them for applications.

Decision Making Process by Denis Bouyssou,Didier Dubois,Henri Prade,Marc Pirlot Pdf

This book provides an overview of the main methods and results in the formal study of the human decision-making process, as defined in a relatively wide sense. A key aim of the approach contained here is to try to break down barriers between various disciplines encompassed by this field, including psychology, economics and computer science. All these approaches have contributed to progress in this very important and much-studied topic in the past, but none have proved sufficient so far to define a complete understanding of the highly complex processes and outcomes. This book provides the reader with state-of-the-art coverage of the field, essentially forming a roadmap to the field of decision analysis. The first part of the book is devoted to basic concepts and techniques for representing and solving decision problems, ranging from operational research to artificial intelligence. Later chapters provide an extensive overview of the decision-making process under conditions of risk and uncertainty. Finally, there are chapters covering various approaches to multi-criteria decision-making. Each chapter is written by experts in the topic concerned, and contains an extensive bibliography for further reading and reference.

U-Statistics in Banach Spaces by IU. IUrii Vasilevich Borovskikh Pdf

U-statistics are universal objects of modern probabilistic summation theory. They appear in various statistical problems and have very important applications. The mathematical nature of this class of random variables has a functional character and, therefore, leads to the investigation of probabilistic distributions in infinite-dimensional spaces. The situation when the kernel of a U-statistic takes values in a Banach space, turns out to be the most natural and interesting. In this book, the author presents in a systematic form the probabilistic theory of U-statistics with values in Banach spaces (UB-statistics), which has been developed to date. The exposition of the material in this book is based around the following topics: algebraic and martingale properties of U-statistics; inequalities; law of large numbers; the central limit theorem; weak convergence to a Gaussian chaos and multiple stochastic integrals; invariance principle and functional limit theorems; estimates of the rate of weak convergence; asymptotic expansion of distributions; large deviations; law of iterated logarithm; dependent variables; relation between Banach-valued U-statistics and functionals from permanent random measures.

Guide to Information Sources in Mathematics and Statistics by Martha A. Tucker,Nancy D. Anderson Pdf

This book is a reference for librarians, mathematicians, and statisticians involved in college and research level mathematics and statistics in the 21st century. We are in a time of transition in scholarly communications in mathematics, practices which have changed little for a hundred years are giving way to new modes of accessing information. Where journals, books, indexes and catalogs were once the physical representation of a good mathematics library, shelves have given way to computers, and users are often accessing information from remote places. Part I is a historical survey of the past 15 years tracking this huge transition in scholarly communications in mathematics. Part II of the book is the bibliography of resources recommended to support the disciplines of mathematics and statistics. These are grouped by type of material. Publication dates range from the 1800's onwards. Hundreds of electronic resources-some online, both dynamic and static, some in fixed media, are listed among the paper resources. Amazingly a majority of listed electronic resources are free.
