Motivate your BPD clients with values-based treatment! This 16-week ACT protocol will help you get started today. As you know, clients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and emotion dysregulation often struggle with negative beliefs about themselves—beliefs that can lead to feelings of shame, problems with personal relationships, and dangerous behaviors. And while dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is the standard treatment for BPD, more and more, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) has shown promising results when treating BPD clients by helping them focus on their core values and forgiveness. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder provides a comprehensive program for delivering ACT to clients with BPD. The Broadview Anthology of British Literature: Concise Volume B - Third Edition by Joseph Black,Leonard Connolly,Kate Flint,Isobel Grundy,Don LePan,Roy Liuzza,Jerome McGann,Anne Lake Prescott,Barry Qualls,Claire Waters Pdf

The two-volume Broadview Anthology of British Literature: Concise Edition provides an attractive alternative to the full six-volume anthology. Though much more compact, the Concise Edition nevertheless provides substantial choice, offering both a strong selection of canonical authors and a sampling of lesser-known works. With an unparalleled selection of illustrations and of contextual materials, accessible and engaging introductions, and full explanatory annotations, these volumes provide concise yet extraordinarily wide-ranging coverage for British Literature survey courses. New to this volume are Samuel Beckett’s Endgame and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; new authors include Dorothy Wordsworth, John Clare, Tomson Highway, Derek Walcott, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The third edition now also offers substantially expanded representation of Irish, Scottish, and Welsh literatures, as well as contextual materials on Gothic literature, Modernism, and World War II. Material that no longer appears in the bound book may in most cases be found on the companion website; many larger works are also available in separate volumes that may at the instructor’s request be bundled together with the anthology at no extra cost to the student. Features New to the Third Edition — New longer texts including Dickens’s performance reading of “David Copperfield,” Gaskell’s The Manchester Marriage, Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Beckett’s Endgame — New short selections from longer works including Eliot’s Middlemarch, Shelley’s Frankenstein, Barrett Browning’s Aurora Leigh, and Tennyson’s In Memoriam A.H.H. — New bound-book author entries for Dorothy Wordsworth, John Clare, Emily Brontë, Thomas de Quincey, Walter Pater, Isaac Rosenberg, Tomson Highway, Derek Walcott, Jeanette Winterson, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie — New selections representing “Literary Currents in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales in the Long Nineteenth Century” — New “Contexts” section on “Gothic Literature” including materials by Horace Walpole, Ann Radcliffe, and Jane Austen — “Literature, Politics, and Cultural Identity” section includes numerous new authors and pieces, including work by Sorely MacLean, James Kelman, Gillian Clarke, Kamau Brathwaite, Kim Moore, and Warsan Shire

Social Science, Technical Systems, and Cooperative Work by Geoffrey Bowker,Susan Leigh Star,Les Gasser,William Turner Pdf

This book is the first to directly address the question of how to bridge what has been termed the "great divide" between the approaches of systems developers and those of social scientists to computer supported cooperative work--a question that has been vigorously debated in the systems development literature. Traditionally, developers have been trained in formal methods and oriented to engineering and formal theoretical problems; many social scientists in the CSCW field come from humanistic traditions in which results are reported in a narrative mode. In spite of their differences in style, the two groups have been cooperating more and more in the last decade, as the "people problems" associated with computing become increasingly evident to everyone. The authors have been encouraged to examine, rigorously and in depth, the theoretical basis of CSCW. With contributions from field leaders in the United Kingdom, France, Scandinavia, Mexico, and the United States, this volume offers an exciting overview of the cutting edge of research and theory. It constitutes a solid foundation for the rapidly coalescing field of social informatics. Divided into three parts, this volume covers social theory, design theory, and the sociotechnical system with respect to CSCW. The first set of chapters looks at ways of rethinking basic social categories with the development of distributed collaborative computing technology--concepts of the group, technology, information, user, and text. The next section concentrates more on the lessons that can be learned at the design stage given that one wants to build a CSCW system incorporating these insights--what kind of work does one need to do and how is understanding of design affected? The final part looks at the integration of social and technical in the operation of working sociotechnical systems. Collectively the contributors make the argument that the social and technical are irremediably linked in practice and so the "great divide" not only should be a thing of the past, it should never have existed in the first place.

Extravagant by Brady Boyd Pdf

From the senior pastor of New Life Church, a “timely, thought-provoking, inspiring, and uplifting” (The Gazette, Colorado) book that redefines the notion of extravagance by using the parable of the Good Samaritan to demonstrate how to live a truly compassionate and selfless life of giving freely without expecting anything in return. We all know people in our lives who have “yes” faces. They are calm but energetic, present but still purposeful with their time. They’re genuine in their desire to know about you—how you’re doing, what you’re up to, how you feel. Even with full lives of their own, they somehow still have the energy to inquire about others. These are extravagant people. In Extravagant, Pastor Brady Boyd shows us that by constantly offering up our time, talents, and hearts we can live life more like these exceptional people. Drawing on the parable of the Good Samaritan, he encourages us to stop living a life driven by selfish desire and start building lasting relationships that will be spiritually fulfilling. Discover how to begin this transformation by ceasing to be a passerby and become one who pauses in the course of daily life. By embracing the spirit of generosity, Pastor Boyd shows us that the path to a happier life is by living closer to God’s vision and building a community that will be there in times of need. “Boyd’s illuminating insights are a perfect primer for living a more self-aware, spiritually fulfilling life” (Shelf Awareness) and just the remedy we need in today’s fractured culture and troubled times.

Exhausted? Strung out? Shackled in your own invisible straitjacket of stress? Seventy per cent of us spend most of our day in a state of stress, with our nervous systems in a position of fight, flight or freeze. Modern day stress has become pervasive in all aspects of our lives through constant pressure, the weight of perceived expectations and the drive to be always on. Many live with an energy and nervous system that feels like a tightly clenched fist, rather than an easeful, gently unfurling hand.
