Quaternary Geology, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia by D. R. Grant Pdf

This report describes and explains the unconsolidated surface materials and landforms of Cape Breton Island, tracing the history of geological processes that shaped the area during the late Cenozoic time and emphasizing the previous interglacial period and the last glacial period. Initial field work was conducted in the summers of 1970 and 1971. Documentation of the surficial geological map units was by ground observation. Most of the coast was studied on foot, with the remainder by boat. Additional incidental observations, local stratigraphic studies, and traverse of new highland forestry access roads were made on an opportunity basis in 1974, 1976, 1982, 1993, and 1994.

Geology of the West-central Cape Breton Highlands, Nova Scotia by R. A. Jamieson Pdf

Metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the western Cape Breton Highlandshave long been known to host small polymetallic sulphide deposits, butdespite considerable exploration activity no clear consensus exists as to theorigin, age, or structural-stratigraphic setting of the deposits. Thisreport combines detailed and regional scale work on the mineral deposits andtheir host rocks into a coherent structural-stratigraphic framework to serveas a basis for further exploration and study of the mineral deposits, and forcorrelation with regional studies being carried out elsewhere in the CapeBreton Highlands.

Quaternary Geology of Central Melville Island, Northwest Territories by D. A. Hodgson,J. S. Vincent,John Gladstone Fyles Pdf

This report completes a project designed to study the Quaternarygeology of central Melville Island including Dundas Peninsula. It contains descriptions of surficial materials together with anoutline of the Quaternary history with particular emphasis onlate Quaternary glacial and marine events. Dundas Peninsula isof particular interest since continental ice sheets reached theirmaximum limits in this area on several occasions. A particularlyimportant reason for examining south-central Melville Island isthe projected routing (at the time of writing) of one or morenatural gas transportation systems through it. Nonetheless, thisstudy is not designed to provide geotechnical information for anyone project, but rather to provide information relevant toengineering, land management, or environmental impact studies, aswell as regional Quaternary studies.
