The Rainbow Book - Tales of Fun & Fancy for Children by Mabel Harriet Spielman Pdf

“THE RAINBOW BOOK” is a wonderful collection of children’s tales of fun and fancy penned by Mabel Henriette Spielmann (1862–1938). It includes the tales of: ‘Adventures in Wizard Land’ (illustrated by Arthur Rackham), ‘The Little Picture Girl’ (Hugh Thomson), ‘The Sleeping Beauty’s Dream’ (Bernard Partridge), ‘The Gamekeeper’s Daughter’ (Lewis Baumer), ‘Cedric’s Unaccountable Adventure’ (Harry Rountree), ‘Father Christmas at Home’ (Arthur Rackham) and many more. This book contains a selection of illustrations from some of the greatest artists from the Golden Age of Illustration. It showcases the drawings of Arthur Rackham, Hugh Thompson, Bernard Partridge, Lewis Baumer, Harry Rountree and C. Wilhelm. Although all fine artists in their own right, Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) is by far the most famous – whose work is quite simply, unparalleled The little Fairy-people are the favourite children of Fancy, for they can do magical things. They were born into this serious world of ages to help brighten it, and also to make it more graceful, dainty and prettily romantic than it is. We have found the little-people of Folk-lore were learned people with the wisdom of ages and whose learnings were all topsy-turvy, for it dealt with toads, and storms, and diseases, and what strange things would happen if you mixed any or all of them up together - how a vampire would flee if you held up a clove of garlic, and how a tempest would suddenly stop if you sprinkled a few drops of vinegar in front of it. No doubt, since then thousands of people have sprinkled tens of thousands of gallons of good vinegar before advancing tempests, and although tempests pay far less attention to the liquid than troubled waters do to a pint of oil, the sprinklers and their descendants have gone on believing with a touching faith, which is pretty, if not totally impractical. But what is pretty and practical too, is that all of us should sometimes let our fancy and our imaginations roam, and that we should laugh a lot more as well, over Fairy-stories and about life in general, no matter what hand it deals us. Remember every dark cloud has a silver lining. 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities. =============== TAGS/KEYWORDS: The Rainbow book, tales, children’s stories, fun and fancy, laughter, mirth, little people, folklore, fairytales, myths, legends, fables, children’s book, Adventures, Wizard-land, wizardland, wizard, Arthur Rackham, Knock, Red Door, Bird-Fairy, Lost Cat’s-eye, Fish-King, Realm, Mystery of the Crab, Magic Bracelets, The Spell, Old-Fangled Father, New-Fangled Sons, Little Picture Girl, Illustrated, illustrations, Hugh Thomson, Sleeping Beauty, Dream, Bernard Partridge, Gamekeeper, Daughter, Lewis Baumer, Fifth of November, Father Christmas, Birthday Story, Little Starry, Cedric, Unaccountable Adventure, Harry Rountree, Rosella, Cuckoo, Live, Clock-House, Christmas, Court, King Jorum, Queen, Hugh Thomson, One April Day, Storm, Teapot, Brew, Monica the Moon Child, C. Over Strand and Field by Gustave Flaubert Pdf

Chapter I. CHÂTEAU DE CHAMBORD. We walked through the empty galleries and deserted rooms where spiders spin their cobwebs over the salamanders of Francis the First. One is overcome by a feeling of distress at the sight of this poverty which has no grandeur. It is not absolute ruin, with the luxury of blackened and mouldy débris, the delicate embroidery of flowers, and the drapery of waving vines undulating in the breeze, like pieces of damask. It is a conscious poverty, for it brushes its threadbare coat and endeavours to appear respectable. The floor has been repaired in one room, while in the next it has been allowed to rot. It shows the futile effort to preserve that which is dying and to bring back that which has fled. Strange to say, it is all very melancholy, but not at all imposing. And then it seems as if everything had contributed to injure poor Chambord, designed by Le Primatice and chiselled and sculptured by Germain Pilon and Jean Cousin. Upreared by Francis the First, on his return from Spain, after the humiliating treaty of Madrid (1526), it is the monument of a pride that sought to dazzle itself in order to forget defeat. It first harbours Gaston d'Orléans, a crushed pretender, who is exiled within its walls; then it is Louis XIV, who, out of one floor, builds three, thus ruining the beautiful double staircase which extended without interruption from the top to the bottom. Then one day, on the second floor, facing the front, under the magnificent ceiling covered with salamanders and painted ornaments which are now crumbling away, Molière produced for the first time Le Bourgeois gentilhomme. Then it was given to the Maréchal de Saxe; then to the Polignacs, and finally to a plain soldier, Berthier. It was afterwards bought back by subscription and presented to the Duc de Bordeaux. It has been given to everybody, as if nobody cared to have it or desired to keep it. It looks as if it had hardly ever been used, and as if it had always been too spacious. It is like a deserted hostelry where transient guests have not left even their names on the walls.

Cobweb Bride: The Complete Trilogy by Vera Nazarian Pdf

Contains the following complete novels: - Cobweb Bride (Book One) - Cobweb Empire (Book Two) - Cobweb Forest (Book Three) Praise for Cobweb Bride ". . . Nazarian writes clean and true prose . . ." —Publishers Weekly "Set in an alternate Renaissance Europe, this series opener by Russian-born Nazarian combines the stylistic manner of a folktale with the trappings of an epic fantasy, one driven by compassion rather than heroics. . . . Fans of period fantasy and those who like stories that feel like fairy tales should appreciate this skillful novel by the twice Nebula Award-nominated author of Dreams of the Compass Rose and The Duke in His Castle." —Library Journal "I really enjoyed the rich, complex and highly unusual storytelling in the Cobweb Bride. Nazarian does an excellent job of painting the Renaissance world of her alternate reality and bringing in interesting twists of fantasy to the story. . . . Everything about this story that was fresh and new. I loved the premise it was built on and I loved the story itself. The characters are rich, multi-dimensional, and so easy to get to know and identify with. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy when it comes out and in finding out more about what happens to the characters that still have a mission to carry out and how the story eventually resolves by the end of the trilogy. I recommend this book to readers of YA, lovers of fantasy, alternate-history, and alternate-reality. It was a terrific read." —Tracy M. Riva, Midwest Book Review "Cobweb Bride is astonishing and captivating; a lush fantasy of imagery and magical realism. The visuals are illustrated by the author's lyrical and metaphoric writing. Every chapter and scene revels in this mortal coil, surrounded by an expansive collage of characters immersed in a plot as rich and decadent as a Verdi opera. . . . The vibrancy of Ms. Nazarian's writing is sheer kaleidoscopic visualization. The folkloric-fable twists and turns recount shavings from the mythos of Hades and Persephone without boring you with a full-blown serving of predictability. The romance is as subtle as it is grim, with glimmers of hope taking us further to our doom—perhaps. . . . The overall tone is introspective, hauntingly quiet with elements of horror-fantasy that are as provocative as the works of Tanith Lee and Storm Constantine." —Patrice, Romantic Historical Reviews, a 5-Star Top Pick Many are called... She alone can save the world and become Death's bride. COBWEB BRIDE is a history-flavored fantasy novel with romantic elements of the Persephone myth, about Death's ultimatum to the world.
