Discrete Element Analysis Methods of Generic Differential Quadratures by Chang-New Chen Pdf

Following the advance in computer technology, the numerical technique has made signi?cant progress in the past decades. Among the major techniques available for numerically analyzing continuum mechanics problems, ?nite d- ference method is most early developed. It is di?cult to deal with cont- uum mechanics problems showing complex curvilinear geometries by using this method. The other method that can consistently discretize continuum mechanics problems showing arbitrarily complex geometries is ?nite element method. In addition, boundary element method is also a useful numerical method. In the past decade, the di?erential quadrature and generic di?erential quadraturesbaseddiscreteelementanalysismethodshavebeendevelopedand usedto solve various continuum mechanics problems. These methods have the same advantage as ?nite element method of consistently discretizing cont- uum mechanics problems having arbitrarily complex geometries. This book includes my research results obtained in developing the related novel discrete element analysis methods using both of the extended di?erential quadrature based spacial and temporal elements. It is attempted to introduce the dev- oped numerical techniques as applied to the solution of various continuum mechanics problems, systematically.

Essentials of Reservoir ... by Pierre Donnez Pdf

"The book covers the basic techniques of reservoir engineering necessary for a professional to master. The approach consists of starting from the fundamental physical laws down to the practical applications in reservoir engineering. Emphasis is placed on assumptions and limits attached to each concept and the link between theory and field applications. The theory in this book is developed with a homogenous unit system with useful formulas expressed in practical units."--BOOK JACKET.

State of the art in Biometrics by Jucheng Yang,Loris Nanni Pdf

Biometric recognition is one of the most widely studied problems in computer science. The use of biometrics techniques, such as face, fingerprints, iris and ears is a solution for obtaining a secure personal identification. However, the "old" biometrics identification techniques are out of date. This goal of this book is to provide the reader with the most up to date research performed in biometric recognition and descript some novel methods of biometrics, emphasis on the state of the art skills. The book consists of 15 chapters, each focusing on a most up to date issue. The chapters are divided into five sections- fingerprint recognition, face recognition, iris recognition, other biometrics and biometrics security. The book was reviewed by editors Dr. Jucheng Yang and Dr. Loris Nanni. We deeply appreciate the efforts of our guest editors: Dr. Girija Chetty, Dr. Norman Poh, Dr. Jianjiang Feng, Dr. Dongsun Park and Dr. Sook Yoon, as well as a number of anonymous reviewers

Integrated Environmental Modelling to Solve Real World Problems by A.T. Riddick,H. Kessler,J.R.A. Giles Pdf

The discipline of Integrated Environmental Modelling (IEM) has developed in order to solve complex environmental problems, for example understanding the impacts of climate change on the physical environment. IEM provides methods to fuse or link models together, this in turn requires facilities to make models discoverable and also to make the outputs of modelling easily visualized. The vision and challenges for IEM going forward are summarized by leading proponents. Several case studies describe the application of model fusion to a range of real-world problems including integrating groundwater and recharge models within the UK Environment Agency, and the development of ‘catastrophe’ models to predict better the impact of natural hazards. Communicating modelling results to end users who are often not specialist modellers is also an emerging area of research addressed within the volume. Also included are papers that highlight current developments of the technology platforms underpinning model fusion.

Developments in Robust Statistics by Rudolf Dutter,Peter Filzmoser,Ursula Gather,Peter J. Rousseeuw Pdf

Aspects of Robust Statistics are important in many areas. Based on the International Conference on Robust Statistics 2001 (ICORS 2001) in Vorau, Austria, this volume discusses future directions of the discipline, bringing together leading scientists, experienced researchers and practitioners, as well as younger researchers. The papers cover a multitude of different aspects of Robust Statistics. For instance, the fundamental problem of data summary (weights of evidence) is considered and its robustness properties are studied. Further theoretical subjects include e.g.: robust methods for skewness, time series, longitudinal data, multivariate methods, and tests. Some papers deal with computational aspects and algorithms. Finally, the aspects of application and programming tools complete the volume.

Current Geotechnical Engineering Aspects of Civil Infrastructures by Meng-Chia Weng,Jeffrey Lee,Yong Liu Pdf

This book deals with the attempts made by the scholars and engineers to address contemporary issues in geotechnical engineering such as characterization of geomaterials, slope stability and tunneling, sustainability in geohazards and some other geotechnical issues that are becoming quite relevant in today's world. With increasing urbanization rates and development of society, advancement in geotechnical technologies is essential to the construction of infrastructures. Geotechnical Investigation is the first step of applying scientific methods and engineering principles to obtain solutions of civil engineering problems. Papers were selected from the 5th GeoChina International Conference on Civil Infrastructures Confronting Severe Weathers and Climate Changes: From Failure to Sustainability, held on July 23-25, 2018 in HangZhou, China.

COSPAR: Space Research by M. J. Rycroft Pdf

Cospar Space Research, Volume XIX covers the proceedings of the Open Meetings of the Working Groups on Physical Sciences of the 21st Plenary Meeting of COSPAR, held in Innsbruck, Austria, from May 29 to June 10, 1978, focusing on the developments in space research. The contributions concentrate on remote sensing, middle atmosphere, ionosphere, magnetosphere, and materials science in space. The selection first offers information on global development of space research, including weather and climate, material sciences in space, planets, sun, stars, magnetosphere, and high energy astrophysics. The book then takes a look at the spectral characteristics of surface phenomena and their impact on the design of an optoelectronic multispectral system; use of weather satellite data in the evaluation of water resources; and atmospheric and surface radiation balance as identified from satellite data. The compilation discusses the assimilation of non-simultaneous satellite and conventional meteorological data using statistical weights; annual variation and variability of meteorological parameters in the stratosphere and mesosphere; and physical properties affecting the existence of small particles in the mesosphere. The book also focuses on the determination of density scale-height profiles, geomagnetic effects in the exosphere, and gravity waves and tidal winds in the equatorial thermosphere. The selection is a dependable source of data for readers interested in space research.
