Come, Let Us Reason Together by Fleur S. Houston Pdf

John Oman (1860–1939) was one of the most original and profound theologian-philosophers of his generation. Drawing on previously unpublished archival sources, Houston traces the influences on Oman’s Orkney childhood and his student days in Edinburgh University and the Divinity Hall of the United Presbyterian Church. She reviews Oman’s subsequent publications during his ministry in Alnwick, and his influential career as professor of systematic theology and college principal at Westminster College, Cambridge. Houston describes the extent to which Oman’s view of the world was challenged and affirmed by his experience of the First World War. Oman’s theological and religious perspectives, summarized as “reverence, freedom, and sincerity,” are rooted in the concerns of daily life. Oman’s experiences and reflections are sure to stimulate, challenge, and inspire readers today as much as they did in his own time.

Ethics by Committee by Noortje Jacobs Pdf

"Ethics boards have become obligatory passage points in today's medical science, and we forget how novel they really are. The use of humans in experiments is an age-old practice that records show goes back to at least the third century BC and, since the early modern period, as a practice it has become increasingly popular. Yet, in most countries around the world, hardly any formal checks and balances existed to govern the communal oversight of experiments involving human subjects until at least the 1960s. Ethics by Committee traces the rise of ethics boards for human experimentation in the second half of the twentieth century. Using the Netherlands as a case-study, Noortje Jacobs shows how the authority of physicians to make decisions about clinical research gave way in most developed nations to formal mechanisms of communal decision-making that served to regiment the behavior of individual researchers. This historically unprecedented change in scientific governance came out of a growing international wariness of medical research in the decades after World War II. Research ethics committees were originally intended not only to make human experimentation more ethical but also to raise its epistemic quality. By examining complex negotiations over the appropriate governance of human subjects research, Ethics by Committee advances our understanding not only of the history of research ethics and the randomized controlled trial but also, more broadly, of how liberal democracies in the late twentieth century have sought to resolve public concerns over charged issues in medicine and science"--

Come, Let Us Reason Together by J.A. Ludwig Pdf

This book is designed to get your group talking as you learn (or re-learn) Biblical truths in a memorable way by utilizing unique, practical lessons with personal and original story illustrations. Originally from the island of Grand Manan, New Brunswick, J.A. Ludwig now resides in the farming community of Sussex, New Brunswick. As a mother of three and a Bible study/youth/young adult Sunday school leader, Ludwig was never your average small town lady. But is anyone? God took a shy girl that no one noticed and used her passion for Him to share His message in a unique and personal way to touch many lives. From prayer groups to sharing in churches, her answer was always yes when she felt God’s “nudge.” When a former pastor was asked to say a word about Ludwig and her calling to write this book, this was what he shared: “I have known J.A. Ludwig for nearly 25 years. In that time, I have watched her go through bad times and good with the help of God’s great grace. She was a tremendous encouragement to me during my ministry years on Grand Manan. She led an in-home bible study which I was privileged to be a part of. Her work was always original and came from the heart of God. She also led our youth ministry with equal passion, always caring for and concerned for the less fortunate. This book she has written will encourage you and help you find a path through the times of your life that might seem impossible to maneuver through. It has been written with the same passion and grace she has lived her life by and like always, it is her experience—not a book lesson from someone else’s material. So I encourage you to read it and be blessed.” —Rev. Scott Lewis

Come, Let Us Reason Together by Baruch Maoz Pdf

"People from a Jewish background face difficult choices when they come to trust in Jesus. To be Jewish, maintains Baruch Maoz, is a blessing from God. But how should Jewish Christians worship? If they join churches, there is real risk of assimilation. But if they establish synagogues, Gentile Christians feel excluded. Some Jewish Christians have tried to solve these problems through Messianic Judaism, which allows them to proclaim Jesus as Messiah while retaining Jewish lifestyle and worship. Baruch Maoz maintains that the two cannot so easily be combined. He maintains that it is possible to be both Christian and Jewish without Messianic Judaism, and he points the way for Jewish Christians to retain their cultural identity without losing fellowship with other Christians" -- BACK COVER.

Greek and Roman Political Ideas by Melissa Lane Pdf

What is politics? What are the origins of political philosophy? What can we learn from the Greeks and Romans? In Greek and Roman Political Ideas, acclaimed classics scholar Melissa Lane introduces the reader to the foundations of Western political thought, from the Greeks, who invented democracy, to the Romans, who created a republic and then transformed it into an empire. Tracing the origins of political philosophy from Socrates to Cicero to Plutarch, Lane reminds us that the birth of politics was as much a story of individuals as ideas.

EMMANUEL by April Marie Pdf

Emmanuel tells the story of Jesus' life by using all four of the Gospels, (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and part of the first chapter of the book of Acts and part of I Corinthians. Learn the story of Jesus' life: where He was born, how He lived, and what He taught. See how He resisted the temptations of the devil, how He healed people and cast out demons. Discover why He went to the cross, how He rose from the dead, and why so many people love Him today. This book follows Jesus' earthly life from the very beginning of the Gospel record, through His many trials and His confrontations with the religious leaders of the day. It also tells the accounts of His miracles, betrayal, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. This book is NOT intended to take the place of the Bible, but it may help you understand the story of Jesus' life better by giving you a more chronological account of it; however, nothing can ever be more complete or accurate than the Bible itself. Jesus' Words are underlined.

Helping efforts are organized around a shared, forward-thinking vision that anticipates obstacles and draws on existing and potential supports in developing a collaborative plan of action. The book begins with stories that illustrate core concepts and context, presenting a number of useful ideas that can reorient behavioral services while outlining a principle-based practice framework to help workers stay grounded and focused. Problems are addressed, and strength-based work is expanded into richer conversations about strengths in the context of intention and purpose, value and belief, hopes, dreams, and commitments. Topics include: Contextual guidance with helping maps Engaging people and re-thinking problems and strengths Dilemmas in home and community services Sustainable helping through collaboration and support A strong collaboration between natural networks, communities, and trained professionals across systems creates an effective helping endeavor. Ensuring sustainability may involve promoting systems change, and building institutional supports for specific supervisory, management, and organizational practices. Sovereignty and the Law by Richard Rawlings,Peter Leyland,Alison Young Pdf

The topic of sovereignty is contentious, and one of enduring interest. In a world of ever increasing economic globalisation, the rise of supranational regulation and the interconnected age of information and communication technology, among many other developments, have challenged the once exclusively held Westphalian model of sovereignty. The distinction between the internal aspect of sovereignty as expressed in terms of ultimate authority in a constitution, and the external aspect involving the relationship between sovereign states has been blurred. This has given rise to contemporary debates that explore the theoretical and practical implications of current challenges to established doctrines. Evidently no book could encompass the entirety of the contemporary debates on sovereignty. This is a book of essays focusing on sovereignty by a team of leading writers contributing domestic, European and international perspectives. The essays have been written at a time of very great testing of the institutional frameworks at every level: domestic, European, international or global. The book illuminates the enduring strength of sovereignty as a foundational concept and the continuing widespread appeal of sovereignty as an idea.
