Camp Cooking by The National Museum of Forest Service History Pdf
Photos, anecdotes, and outdoor-cooking recipes celebrating the history of the U.S. Forest Service. Dedicated protectors of our national forests and grasslands, Forest Service agents live much of their lives outdoors, and that includes mealtimes. In decades past, rangers’ wives prepared meals with limited resources as they accompanied their husbands in the field, often supplementing cooking with k-rations cooked over an open fire. In rustic and remote locations, delicious, time-tested creations were prepared and served, including Dutch Oven Beer Bread, Parmesan Mashed Potatoes, Pioneer Night Stew, and Creamy Pumpkin Pie. Here, the National Museum of Forest Service History presents a unique cookbook that celebrates decades of camp cooking by countless Forest Service agents in the field. Featuring legendary recipes for Dutch oven meals, open-fire dishes, and other tasty outdoor specialties used daily in the early days of the Forest Service, Camp Cooking also includes photos and anecdotes that tell the whole history of these brave and hardy individuals.
With Charred & Scruffed, bestselling cookbook author and acclaimed chef Adam Perry Lang employs his extensive culinary background to refine and concentrate the flavors and textures of barbecue and reimagine its possibilities. Adam's new techniques, from roughing up meat and vegetables ("scruffing") to cooking directly on hot coals ("clinching") to constantly turning and moving the meat while cooking ("hot potato"), produce crust formation and layers of flavor, while his board dressings and finishing salts build upon delicious meat juices, and his "fork finishers"—like cranberry, hatch chile, and mango "spackles"—provide an intensely flavorful, concentrated end note. Meanwhile, side dishes such as Creamed Spinach with Steeped and Smoked Garlic Confit, Scruffed Carbonara Potatoes, and Charred Radicchio with Sweet-and-Sticky Balsamic and Bacon, far from afterthoughts, provide exciting contrast and synergy with the "mains."
Finally, here's a guide for people who love good food and the great outdoors. Campfire Cuisine provides more than 100 recipes for delicious, healthy, satisfying meals to make at your campsite or in any outdoor setting. Also included are tips on meal planning, shopping, and choosing the right equipment. Fun RV & Camping Recipes Cookbook - Make Roughing It Fun and Delicious! by Katie Morgan Pdf
Fun RV & Camping Recipes Cookbook Make Roughing It Fun and Delicious! Do you love to go camping but are tired of the boring hotdogs and super gooey s'mores? Are you looking for a way to bring variety to your tiny RV kitchen? Look no further! This book is for you! My two kids and I survived in our tiny kitchen (and sometimes camping outside!). I'm just going to lay it all out for you with a whopping 100 recipes you can easily whip up in the kitchen for your family. From easy, 3-ingredient meals to no-cook wonders that can feed you in a jiffy, these scrumptious, husband-approved and kid-certified delights have you covered from breakfast to dinner and everything in between. If we choose to, loading our RV's mini-fridge with ready-to-eat microwavable meals would be the easiest thing to do. But you can only go that route for a few days before feeling icky with all the preservatives running in your veins - all that artificial junk will make you want to do a juice cleanse every week. Besides, I feel like keeping our family of four in tip-top shape for our adventures on the road is one of my main priorities. Whipping up healthy, full meals for your family in your RV may not be easy most of the time, especially if you just came back from a strenuous hike and don't have the luxury of a fully kitted-out kitchen. But if you have the right tools, have the right recipes, and prepare zealously, cooking in such a cramped space will be downright easy. In fact, just after a few years of living in an RV, I find that I like it better than cooking in my old sticks and bricks kitchen. My movements are quick and efficient - no ingredients are wasted, and everything is within reach. On all my recipes, I tried to keep the ingredients and steps to a minimum, hoping that you can see how simple everything can be and still taste delicious. I believe that in cooking, you just need to pick one ingredient to shine - all other stuff is just there to enhance the flavors you already have. Cooking in an RV made me realize that I didn't actually need my whole spice cabinet to make my dishes taste good and that my main goal is to have everyone in my family have a balanced meal every time. And so, I must admit, these recipes won't produce restaurant-worthy, top-rated dishes, but good, healthy, homemade dishes that my family and hopefully your family will love as well. Here is a sample recipe; it's one of my favorites! Salmon Nuggets Ingredients (for 4 people): 1 pound or 500g of salmon (sashimi grade) 6 tablespoons of mayonnaise Salt Pepper 1 cup of breadcrumbs Lemon juice How to cook: 1. Cut salmon into bite-sized pieces and place them in a bowl. 2. Season it with salt and pepper, then add the mayonnaise in. Toss the salmon around to coat it, and then cover each one with bread crumbs. 3. In a pan, heat enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan. Fry the salmon for around 3 minutes on each side, then drain off the oil. 4. Serve with a drizzle of lemon juice and a mayonnaise dip. Bon Appetit

Roughing it in the Suburbs by Valerie J. Korinek Pdf
Originally launched in 1928, by the 1950s and 1960s nearly two million readers every month sampled "Chatelaine" magazine's eclectic mixture of traditional and surprisingly unconventional articles and editorials. At a time when the American women's magazine market began to flounder thanks to the advent of television, "Chatelaine's" subscriptions expanded, as did the lively debate between its pages. Why? In this exhilarating study of Canada's foremost women's publication in the 50s and 60s, Valerie Korinek shows that while the magazine was certainly filled with advertisements that promoted domestic perfection through the endless expansion of consumer spending, a number of its sections – including fiction, features, letters, and the editor's column – began to contain material that subversively complicated the simple consumer recipes for affluent domesticity. Articles on abortion, spousal abuse, and poverty proliferated alongside explicitly feminist editorials. It was a potent mixture and the mail poured in – both praising and criticizing the new directions at the magazine. It was "Chatelaine's" highly interactive and participatory nature that encouraged what Korinek calls "a community of readers" – readers that in their very response to the magazine led to its success. "Chatelaine" did not cling to the stereotypical images of the era, instead it forged ahead providing women with a variety of images, ideas, and critiques of women's role in society. Chatelaine's dissemination of feminist ideas laid the foundation for feminism in Canada in the 1970s and after. Comprehensive, fascinating, and full of lively debate and history, "Roughing it in the Suburbs" provides a cultural study that weaves together a history of "Chatelaine's" producer's, consumers, and text. It illustrates how the structure of the magazine's production, and the composition of its editorial and business offices allowed for feminist material to infiltrate a mass-market women's monthly. In doing so it offers a detailed analysis of the times, the issues, and the national cross section of the women and, sometimes, men, who participated in the success of a Canadian cultural landmark.
